only a half baked city government, or our present Congress would build a jail with a water view and water taxi service. The ugly "Justice Complex" hovers over a stretch of the new river and is them ost attractive buildings.
Interesting going up the river; once.

Not very many cities can boast about having a river wind through the heart of downtown. In Fort Lauderdale we are one of the lucky few. This provides the perfect venue for many festivals around food and music as well as parades like the Winter Boat Parade. Evening without anything going on this is such a nice place to just spend an afternoon walking along the shores. It is a convenient spot to catch the water taxi to and from the beach as well as starting place for Riverwalk bar hopping.

join the hundreds of locals relaxing by the river the first Sunday of every month as Fort Lauderdale celebrates jazz on the river. Several stages with local musicians are located along the riverfront area where a blanket or chair and a good bottle of wine is all you need to pass the time away. Enjoy the stroll along the river while the boats stream up and down and stop in at the many restaurants along 2nd street or see the historical sights as you walk. Home to Riverfront, a large complex of restaurant, bars and food vendors as well as beautiful grounds to walk and relax in. Pets are allowed as are bicycles. A great way to unwind any day of the week at almost any hour!

This is a fabulous place to stroll, sit and watch people/boats, or read. The North side has a very nice walkways from the Broward Center all the way past U.S. 1 with lots of benches to sit and rest. We have walked along the New River many times. It's very peaceful. It can be a busy place on weekends with lots of people and boats to watch, but never so crowded you can't enjoy the river. There are many close by restaurants (LOVE Tarpon Bend) and also lots of choices of boat trips. We have taken boat trips 3 or 4 times. It's delightful to cruise the New River and Intercoastal waterway. Lots to see. There are also events on the mall near the Broward Center. Very fun place to relax.
