When meeting friends who live in Aventura (N. Miami), they suggested we dine at S3, located in the Hilton Beachfront in Ft. Lauderdale. What an excellent choice it turned out to be. The restaurant, fairly new, is in the hotel but entirely independent.
My husband and I, golf enthusiasts both, arrived more than an hour early so we could catch the back end of the Masters in the restaurant's bar. Jane, the friendly bartender, mixed me a refreshingly cool lychee mojito, while my husband enjoyed a top notch single malt scotch. We ordered the edamame appetizer, and it was the best we've ever had. It was seasoned with sea salt, sesame seeds, a touch of chili pepper and lightly tossed in soy sauce. Amazing.
When our friends arrived we opted to eat inside since it was a windy night. Located across the street from the beach we were still able to enjoy the oceanfront view. Our server, Cody, explained the menu, which consisted of mostly tapas-size, small plates, all perfect for sharing. We ordered roasted brussel sprouts, heirloom tomato salad, brisket sliders (tasty but a little tough), tomato bread, and scallops. Three out of the four of us shared these dishes, while one opted for the Alaskan halibut main course, one of that evening's specials. Everything was delicious. Be aware, however, that dishes arrive at your table in no particular order; they just come out of the kitchen when ready.
We shared two desserts for the four of us; we had the donuts and the blondie brownie with vanilla bean ice cream. Each was excellent, especially the donuts which were incredibly light and delicious. Great food combined with a relaxed atmosphere made S3 (Sun, Surf, Sand) the perfect place to catch up with friends.

We had a number of meals here on a recent stay, both in the dining room and at the sushi bar. Very attractive, modern space, lively atmosphere, with good sushi and wood fired oven offerings, and friendly service (the bar service can be a bit slow). Very busy on weekends. Tasty, fresh, not overly complicated cuisine. A great place to unwind by the beach, and a welcome addition to the neighborhood.

Saltiest piece of fish i have ever tasted. Other food was drowning in butter. I had a stomach ache the next morning. I would look elsewhere.
