As soon as you step in the door, the appropriateness of the name "Downtowner Saloon" strikes you right away. It looks like a bar -- a bar from the good old days! The walls are lined with historic photos of Fort Lauderdale in the way-back-when, and these intrigued me. As a bar, I've no doubt it's great.
The selection of craft beers was both large and interesting, and I certainly enjoyed the one I chose. The food was good, but for the price I would think a bigger portion of fish could be served. I did get more mahi for less money in other places in Fort Lauderdale. The potatoes and Caesar salad were both good, but not outstanding. Same would go for the service. The server was competent, and did the basics all right. In between times though, it was hard to get her eye. She seemed to be spending time socializing with her colleagues. Again, given the prices being asked a higher standard of service is not an unreasonable expectation.
It's a great location, with its own stop on the Water Taxi tour boats and its own free parking lot too! The food was good, and the service was acceptable, but both would have to go higher to come up to the standards of the bar offerings.
