Have been frequenting the Flamingo over the last decade, most recently 2 years have passed since my previous stay.
Am relieved to say nothing has changed.
This despite them being swallowed up by the voracious North Beach Village Group, who has made it their mission to take over this entire neighborhood! To be fair, the area has been in decline since the arrival of the monstrous W/Hilton/Ritz beachfront towers that shadow the streets inland. NBV has taken many of the run down properties and re-imagined them in an all-white, clean line design....with spare, Hospital/IKEA chic rooms... clever branding...but rather bland.
Glad to see they have allowed the Flamingo to stay it's course with it's classy, creamy yellow exterior and character filled interiors. The rooms remain unchanged since my first stay....and have stood up remarkably well due to a combination of the initial investment in quality fittings/furniture, upkeep by the staff and a clientele that I dare say treats them like a friends "guest room"! Also amazingly unchanged is the staff, most who have been here for many years and who also seem determined to keep the status quo.
Professional, friendly and intuitive. (loved how my room was made up so quickly as I breakfasted!)
It truly is the little things that make the Flamingo stand out, the incense burning in the foliage, sun tan lotion available, beach chairs for use and the offer of a drink (or 2!) in the evening.
Kudos to ownership/management not to stream-line these niceties for the sake of the bottom line!
(did visit North Beach Village's "Royal Palms"...very flash in the aforementioned "white" way...but would find it intrusive to have my resort taken over by a weekly dance party and a constant stream of outside traffic using the food services/facilities.)
So, overall the Flamingo continues to fit my need for a quiet, private retreat for a break.
ps: Perfect? Well no....rooms lack any real lighting suitable for reading and while the beds/bedding are comfortable enough the flat, hard pillows made me ultimately long for home!
