“Pleasant Hotel walking distance to the beach”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 March 2013

We stayed at the Aqua Hotel in mid march for 2 nights just after a cruise. Hotel is a renovated 1950s property located just a few blocks from the beach. Staff was friendly and accommodating.
Booked a one bedroom suite which featured a kitchenette with a fridge/freezer, stove and sink as well as cutlery and dishes. Travelling with 2 young (5 and 7) kids, this was very handy. Photographs on the website are exactly what you get unlike some places which look great online but not so much when you get there. This place is lovely! Very tidy, clean and spacious and I liked it. Kim and Destiny were so nice and helpful.
Here's a few notes:
1. The property is a walk-up so that if you are on the 2nd floor like we were, you'll have to carry your luggage up the stairs. While this suited us just fine, don't expect a staff to bring your luggage up for you like at a larger property.
2. Our taxi driver had no idea where this place was located even when I gave him the address. I told him it was near to the Hilton Beach Resort and at least he could get us to the general location. Thank goodness for the gps on an iphone.
3. Aqua staff are not onsite until 7 am or 8 am on Sunday. Since our cruise came in early, I was hoping to store our luggage there for the morning while we did some sightseeing. Since they weren't open, I had to bring our luggage to one of their sister properties about 3 blocks away. We had to carry it there ourselves and retrieve it ourselves. Again, just fine with us, but just letting you know. That said, the staff at the Palms were very, very nice and wouldn't even accept a gratuity!
4. Little issue with poor design in the bathroom makes the shower leak out onto the floor. My husband didn't care but I found it annoying.
5. Wifi worked fine for me and was free.
6. Pool was nice and clean and not too deep. Kids liked it.
7. Good hotel for families but down the street from the rowdy (and ugly) Tropic Cay which was filled with drunk and often obnoxious spring breakers. I guess to be expected in mid-march.
8. Location was convenient to the beach, the sun trolley and some touristy shops.
9. Not a full service hotel but more like renting an apartment or small villa.

Again, cute place and we would stay again. Very casual, laid back, super friendly, clean and nice.

Room Tip: Worth the extra cost to get a one bedroom.

We stayed at The Aqua for 7 days in early March. It is a very pretty "boutique" hotel with a quaint courtyard and two very nice pool areas. The furnishings are modern and stylish. We stayed in a one-bedroom apartment on the first floor with large windows and a partial view of the ocean. The service is great - the staff made sure to quickly satisfy whatever request or query we had. All in all, we were happy with our accommodations although there were some issues (very choppy wifi connection, small bathroom, no telephone in the suite, limited number of tv channels, uncomfortable sofa bed, tardiness in cleaning the pools, pricey bike rental rates). The Aqua does not have the amenities of a big chain 5-star hotel up the street but it is a very good alternative!!

Room Tip: If you're interested in the one-bedroom suites, request a corner suite with a partial view of th...

From the minute we arrived and checked in early we were treated wonderfully by Maggie and all of the other staff. Thanks Maggie you are the best! They made all 15 of us feel very welcome. This is a great hotel to stay with children. 2 pools and nice open spaces for them to play. We even had a BBQ two nights. Close to beaches and restaurants.

Thanks again. Wonderful

I booked this hotel solely on the prior reviews which were all outstanding. That is why I want to leave a comment. I have never been to Ft. Lauderdale and traveling with two small children, safety, cleanliness, comfort and location were top priority. This place has it all. We were here for one night only prior to a cruise out of Miami. Our cab ride from the Ft. Lauderdale hotel to the Aqua was not great. Once we arrived though, we were impressed by the hotel. The staff was more than friendly and the room was pristine clean. I am very picky-this hotel passed the test for sure. I talked to the staff about the cab ride and that we needed transport to the Miami cruise port the following day. They immediately made reservations for us through a local shuttle company which turned out to be excellent-we used them several times for the remainder of our trip! The location is one block from the beach and walking distance to many places to eat/drink. I would stay here again for sure.

We booked this hotel based on the reviews on Trip Advisor. We were taking a cruise on Saturday, and arrived on Thursday. After reading a few reviews from people who booked on Booking.com, I was worried, as I had booked through that website as well. Thank goodness they did have a room for us, but not the studio we originally booked. We were upgraded to a suite, on the corner of the top floor. I can't speak for the other people obviously, so I'm not sure if that's a big problem with that website.

We were greeted by Maggie, who is just as wonderful as people on here say she is. I had high expectations and was not disappointed. Maggie is friendly and "real" - very refreshing! I love the personal touch, and was so happy we were at the Aqua and not at one of the the big hotels on the water. A friendly wave and a hello goes a long way - and we appreciated the hospitality. She answered all our questions - and I had sometimes had a lot ;) As people mentioned, it's a block from the beach - we had a great time walking around! We did not use the pool, but did sit outside and enjoy the sun. The property is great, loved the cozy feel. No restaurant on site, but we walked to the store and bought a few things for breakfast, and took advantage of the Plaza Bistro for supper one night.. excellent!!

Room was clean, modern and spacious. Loved having the fridge and microwave! Because we were on the corner with two windows, the room was bright! I didn't mind having the curtains open at all, but yes, if you're getting dressed, people may see in ;) Wifi was fine, so was the TV. We were on vacation, so not there to be on the internet or watch TV :) Shower had a small problem draining.. but that was the only minor issue. Bed was comfortable - it was great to relax after travelling the whole day. Plus we enjoyed some down time before starting our cruise vacation.

If we ever return to cruise (which I really hope we do!) we will most definitely stay at the Aqua again. If you're looking for personal service, clean rooms and property, and love a quaint hotel over a big stuffy hotel, this is the place for you!!! Thank you Maggie and the staff at the Aqua for making our stay lovely - we hope to see you again soon!

Room Tip: Corner rooms have more light because of two windows.

Our stay at The Aqua has been so good that we couldn't even wait to get home to review it!

We were one of the unfortunate ones who booked thru bookit.com. DON'T DO THIS! Make sure to call the hotel directly to reserve your room.

We arrived to the Aqua and of course, our reservation was not there. Not to worry, though. We were in great hands with Maggie Martino. She was so great at moving things around so we could have a great room for all the nights we needed. She did so much to make us feel right at home. We were even able to check in a little early!

The hotel is in a quiet part of Ft Lauderdale, which was perfect for us. The rooms are so clean and modern, nothing like the cheesy beach condo you find all too often. The property has bicycles available, beach chairs and umbrellas. It was all so convenient. The best part was the staff. Everyone we saw was so helpful, everytime we came back from a day of sightseeing, it felt like we were coming home. Above all, Maggie was a doll! She even set up our taxi for an EARLY pick up for our trip to the airport.

If youre headed to Ft Lauderdale, book The Aqua (directly). I promise, you won't be sorry!!
