I booked this hotel for 1 night as a precursor to our 10 day Caribbean cruise. Both the outside and inside have a swanky trendy feel to them. I had high expectations based on other reviews and the price per night that it costs to stay here; although I am fully aware the $$ does not equal value and that was the case here. First the "good". All staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. We had a cool corner room which was listed to be 900 SF, which it was not. The balcony, however was huge with seating for 2. One side of the room faced the Atlantic with a great view and the other side faced the waterways and the city. The location of our room was at the end of a hallway which made it a very quiet place to be. No noise whatsoever. When we entered the room our son (9) was delighted to see a beautiful soft white stuffed crocodile on the bed. A nice touch. Now for the "not-so-good". Although I hate to say it, our room was not very clean. All the white decor and bedding and all gave it the "appearance" of being fresh and clean but it just wasn't. There was dust, yes actual dust, on the counter surrounding the TV and on the base of the TV, on the bedside tables, and in various placed I had checked in the bathroom. Not acceptable. There was long black hair from a previous patron in the tub and on the bathroom floor. Not acceptable. All should be advised that the shower is a peek-a-boo shower....this means that the back wall of the shower is floor to ceiling clear glass into the living area. I knew this ahead of time and decided we would work it out. I am just not sure who this appeals to??? Newlyweds maybe? I guess maybe the novelty of being able to look out at the ocean while in the shower was the idea here, but not a good set up for families. And, finally the carpet....dirty. If you looked around you could see that the furniture, furnishings, decor etc had been through a lot. It was worn and had seen its better days. This hotel was probaby very very nice when it was new, but after only a few years it needs a serious facelift. I don't mind paying $XXX to stay somewhere nice if I feel it is a good value. This stay just didn't do it for me. I can buy the crocodile at FAO Schwartz for $50 and stay somewhere else.
