“Super stay...”
Reviewed 18 February 2014

I feel like I can be fairly particular...but if you get the customer service right, then I can overlook minor things that I might otherwise be real annoyed about. On the whole, the customer service here is great! We had lovely service right off the bat from Alasandro (giving us the generalities of the property), and then one specific night at the hotel bar, Shakti was just awesome! So sweet, friendly and working very hard. The bar was particularly busy that night (Valentine's Day) and she was handling it like a pro. I would also highlight that the beach scene was excellent. On the days that Leroy was in charge of beach towels and chairs, service was perfect.

Now...I will say that not every single person working on the resort gave this type of service, but on the whole, most all the employees clearly were trying to give customers an enjoyable stay. You take the great with the just ok, right?

Another thing about our stay, we've been to Miami several times, and really did just want a quick getaway where we didn't have to think about planning out every single detail of our stay, and this was just perfect for what we needed. You will not get the nightlife excitement that you would out of Miami. There is next to nothing close (within walking distance), so be prepared to cab it if you want to go out/ off prop. That being said, Pelican makes it very easy for you to want to stay close...the food = excellent, the drinks = excellent, the ambiance = excellent. The veranda, and restaurant, the in-room dining, the beach...even the pool (to a lesser extent) are all great. They really do have the beach service figured out. I can't tell you how many times we've been on trips (beach trips) where we would have conversations about the staff saying things like, if only they would provide this...or I could really go for a drink, etc...for couples (like us) who want to spend money and are willing to spend a couple extra bucks to have someone set up a chair and bring a drink to you...this is the PERFECT spot for that.

Also, our room was lovely. It was clean and we had an amazing view...best view of the beach we've ever had. The bathroom was super-tiny...like I had to remove the toilet paper roll before sitting on the actual toilet as it was that close together, but as I said above, when you feel like you're being treated "right" by the staff, other random things like a small bathroom are tolerable.

I would totally recommend this place for a nice getaway to the beach!

We have stayed at the Pelican many times and enjoyed the new room updates which were certainly overdue. It is a shame that with such a wonderful view that the stained white plastic chairs on the balcony have not been replaced with something more fitting of the upscale resort that they are trying to be. As always service was great and the rooms were very clean.

Very good hotel, excellent location. On the beach, not across the road. Could be elevated to excellent all round with a few easy fixes. No Concierge to help with local knowledge and bookings. Staff are from around the world and whilst friendly are not that knowledgeable. TV in bedroom very old whilst in other room an HD flat screen. Very limited channel (no golf) in either room. Room cleaning always about 4pm to late for convenience. But the best place to stay for Fort Lauderdale beach. Please could obligatory resort charges and compulsory valet parking be included in booking estimates rather than be hidden away in the small print. It is an expensive hotel and extra charges are just annoying. Would definitely revisit.

Room Tip: Higher is quieter.

Love staying at the Pelican! The rooms are nice and roomy, although they could use a bit of updating. Love the suite room facing the ocean! The coffee shop is great with great personnel especially "Mallory". Love the cocktail bar for happy hour too! Great selection of foods/drinks. The lazy river is the best especially since it was heated. The pool is heated too! But the best place to be is the farmhouse porch, on a rocker facing the ocean! Can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: get an ocean facing suite - always worth the extra $$. Look for a top floor too! We stayed right o...

My family and I stayed here for only one night after a week long Western Caribbean cruise. I must say, we enjoyed the hotel a lot more than the cruise ship. Room easily acocmodated my wife and I, plus our 3 kids. Room came with an ocean view and a balcony. Plenty of room for all of us. The hotel itself is designed beautifully, as it is a newer hotel but has the grand style of the early 1900's. The back porch is the perfect place to have breakfast and a cup of coffee while watching the Atlantic Ocean. Our kids did not want to leave the pool and lazy river. From the minute we arrived after our cruise to the time we left to fly home they were in the pool in on the private beach. Poolside drinks are very good, albiet a bit pricey. Food is also outstanding. Considering we had just gotten off a 7 day cruise, the meals I had here were far better. Only downside is that there is not much to do within walking distance. There are a few restaurants a bit more than half a mile away, but the walk along the coast is a nice one.

We enjoyed this hotel so much we plan on going back and staying here for 3 or 4 nights. Great for a couples retreat or a family vacation.

The best thing about this hotel is the patio that overlooks the beach. There are rocking chairs and comfortable lounge areas to sip a glass of wine and enjoy the warm Florida evenings. I stayed a couple nights in a two-king suite overlooking the ocean and it was magical. The rooms are large, clean and comfortable. The only drawback to this hotel is that the wait staff in the restaurant and bar are not very attentive. It took a very long time for the server to acknowledge we had arrived. Even longer to get their attention for more drinks, etc. I think it's an under-staffing issue. The food comes out relatively quickly. But ordering takes forever! I've stayed at this hotel twice in the past few months for a total of eight days and each day I had the same experience with the servers. If the hotel could resolve this issue, I would have easily given a five star review.

Room Tip: Splurge and get the ocean view. It's totally worth it!

A beautiful but somewhat overpriced hotel. Shops, restaurants, bars, stores, etc. are a mile and more away from the hotel. Walk out the door to the beach. A nice somewhat small pool with a lazy river.

Room Tip: Ocean view is a must!
