Jeff and Maritxa at the front desk were very helpful and VERY FRIENDLY. I've been living in hotels for work for about 5 years. Jeff and Maritxa are some of the best people I have met at any hotel. This is a great place and great people.

Room Tip: I like the top floor overlooking the pool.

This hotel needs some TLC. It could be a nice property but the exterior is dirty and not kept up. The exterior needs to be power washed and the landscaping needs to be manicured, also the parking lot need to be swept and cleaned. The rooms were clean enough and somewhat upgraded but the mattresses on the beds were innerspring mattresses and aside from being uncomfortable they squeaked every time you moved while on them.

The wifi does not work in the rooms 99% of the time and when it does it is so weak it drops out constantly.

We had to wait until check-in at 2;30(we got there at 10).They directed us to the pool area which was beautiful and serene.(until the train goes by, an airplane overhead, or motorcycles in the parking lot rev their engine.)But it was nice. Things looked gorgeous till you got up close. The pool ladder was broken, one of several fountains was malfunctioning and the tiles around the pool were loose. There are several cracks in the swimming pool, which didn't bother me, but just lead to the opinion that general upkeep was not great. Same with the rooms, cracks in the cement, paint peeling, all upkeep stuff. But it was for one night, and I got a good deal. On maps, it shows the hotel right next to the airport, but in reality the airport is 20-30 mins away.My son loved it that a Waffle House was next door.

If you are basing your stay off the looks of the photos on this hotels website, RUN! They had a GREAT photographer. Talk about trying to put lipstick on a PIG! Dirty, outdated EVERYTHING, HORRIBLE beds, a dumpster full of dirty mattresses outside our room. You know what else was right out side our room?? A FREIGHT TRAIN!!! That runs every 30 minutes and is literally 25 feet away from the hotel.. So loud it shakes the walls and the horn sounds about 3 times every time it passed. We left at 1:00am because we couldn't sleep! Your in the middle of an industrial area/ghetto.. Your better off sleeping on the beach! Obitz has also been no help in getting us a refund!

This, my dears, is OLD HOLLYWOOD. Where is this Pearl? Well, you must find it in amidst stones, about 11 miles NE of Fort Lauderdale International Airport. Want to spend $1000. for 5 days? Ok, don't come here, you will spend about half that. ..In the sense of the best of times, you will see fine service, genuine smiles and caring from staff. You will be the star of your own vacation, trust us. Think we are fooling you? Not. We are in our mid-60's, traveled a bit. The only other place we have felt as at home was in Puerto Vallarta where we spend months each year getting away from the rat race. We will come back, love to cruise, will spend a week or so before each cruise here. Thanks please to the Staff & Management at Universal Palms. Kudos all. Julian, Peter, Avery, Mellime (sorry for the mispell but you were kind), Kenny, Carlos, Jeff, many others who were helpful, anomymous but appreciated.

Room Tip: Loved the 2-room suite, close to the pool, nice.

Great experience! Doesn't look like much from the surrounding area but the hotel was very clean and everyone was very very helpful! They even kept serving us and carrying on business during a power outage and did their best to keep everyone feeling very welcome! Would definitely stay there again! Rooms are pretty average but clean and the pool area is very nice!
