My girlfriends & I take an annual trip to Florida every year! The staff, service & accomidations at the Lago Mar were simply fabulous! Everyone was so friendly & helpful & lots of fun! The room was very spacious(there were 5 of us in our room) & beds were super comfortable! There was lots to do within the resort but when we wanted to explore off-site the staff arranged for transportation, which was very affordable. We loved the private beach & the balcony on our room! We felt like we were totally pampered! I can definately say that the girls from Lineville, Iowa will be back to stay again!

Room Tip: Rooms above the second floor would have a better views of the ocean!

Lago Mar Resort and Club was a pleasant surprise. Our room -an executive suite- was attractive, roomy, and very clean. My husband and I particularly enjoyed the balcony that overlooked the pool and partial view of the Atlantic. The staff never ceased to amaze me with great attitudes, friendliness, and helpfulness. When eating at the Lago Mar for dinner, my strict dietary concerns were easily addressed with a smile and a delicious meal. After our positive experience at Lago Mar we certainly understand why Americans and Europeans alike enjoy time spent at such a fabulous resort!

Room Tip: The executive suite is worth the additional cost for more space and a homelike atmosphere.

My girlfriend and I recently stayed at Lago Mar for our 1 year anniversary. We were greeted by friendly faces as soon as we pulled up to the Valet. We got there early and our room was not ready just yet, so the front desk was extremely helpful and put us by the pool bar to have lunch. Our lunch was very good and as soon as we were done eating, our room was ready. Upon entering the room, we were plesantly surprised of the size of the suite with living, dining, kitchen and separate bedroom and bath. Oh and the view of the pool and beach was gorgeous also. Later that night we had dinner at the main restaurnt and Executive Chef Phil Khan personally came out to say hello and see how the everything was. Phenomanal food by the way!! All of the staff at Lago Mar are very friendly and made the stay extremely enjoyable.

Room Tip: Try and get a suite

My friend and I wanted a nice resort to relax and pamper ourselves over the 4th of July weekend. Unfortunately, we chose the wrong hotel. The staff at the hotel are very nice and helpful, and the hotel is pretty clean, but it really caters to families with children. The pool area was extremely crowded with rambunctious, loud kids everywhere. We stuck to the beach and for $20/day, they rent you an umbrella and two chairs. The beach is beautiful and very relaxing. The restaurants in the hotel are not that great and for the price, it's worth taking a cab or a 15 minute walk to nearby restaurants. The walls are thin, so we could hear our neighbors. And the hallways smell really musty or like mildew. But, the rooms are renovated nicely. Overall, it's a good hotel and a great value for families with kids, but don't go there if you want some peace and quiet while you lounge by the pool.

Booked this hotel after reading the reviews. This isn't a 4 star hotel. The decor is dated and very tired looking. The rooms are accessed from outside, motel stlye. Yes it's on the beach, that's the best I can say about it. It advertises free internet and parking what they don't tell you is that the drinks are very expensive, then they add on 18% charge. There is no option to pay for anything in cash it is all charged to the room plus 18%. I ordered a glass of wine which was served in a plastic pint cup and cost me $15! Guess that why they don't make a charge for Internet or parking. We checked out after an hour of checking in explaining that we weren't happy. They just said ok, no interest why we didn't want to stay. Then charged us $318 to check out. we checked into the 5 star Ritz Carlton in fort Lauderdale for $240. So don't waste your time at Lago Mar until they remodel it.

We stayed here for 7 nights. The resort isn't bad but it isn't good either. The best thing about the resort is its location. Right on the beach. Second is the room size, as we had a one bedroom suite and it was spacious. Third is the concierge staff, who all appeared to be great. Fourth is the coffee maker and decent courtesy coffee. Otherwise, service and housekeeping are both patchy. Out of 7 breakfasts we got decent waiting staff twice. Their names are Carol and Deon and they are both really, really good at their jobs. The bar staff vary from adequate to incompetent. Housekeeping is unable to replace the amenities such as shower gel on a predictable basis, and one day didn't even leave any toilet paper in the holder. The decor is quite amusingly tasteless. Some of the public areas are particularly jarring but the rooms aren't entirely soothing either. And in any hotel charging what this hotel charges, polyester cotton ('Comfort Twill') sheets and pillow cases are simply unacceptable, as is erratic and often unusable internet. Potential guests should be aware that there seems to be very little shade around the pools (ie no umbrellas for the sunbeds that we could see). People will doubtless still flock to this hotel as hotels with direct, private, beach access are rare in Fort Lauderdale. But I've had better service in cheap motels and diners than I got at the Lago Mar. I have suggested to the owner, via the feedback questionnaire, that the automatic 18% gratuity be scrapped as that might sharpen up the staff that need sharpening up, which appears to be most of them. The only breakfast servers who deserved their 18% tip were the two mentioned above. The others would have got less or nil (in one case). So, summing this up, if you value a great beach more than you value a great hotel, stay here.
