I have to say that our experience at lago mar resort was one with both highs and lows. On the night we arrived we were placed in a room with one bed for four people ! After seeing this we returned to the front desk ,luggage and all. The woman working was unfriendly and unhelpful to say the least , explaining that the room included a very small pull out couch for 2 of the 4 of our adult size party to sleep on. A friendly bell man then helped us back up to our room . After seeing the small space we were given he stated that the room would not work for us and contacted someone to change our room , we were very appreciative and impressed with this young man! The next morning we decided to eat breakfast at a resturant there. Our breakfast was cold and over priced . Nothing was fresh. It was clear that everything we were served (scrambled eggs, greasy chewy bacon, toast ) were left overs from the closed buffet ! Later we went the soda shop were we bought waters and snacks . The clerk tried to give herself a $100 tip , thankfully we looked at the receipt before signing and nicely pointed out the "mistake." The clerk acted annoyed and tried to get us to sign the receipt. On the other hand the bell men and valets were extremely nice , as were many of the other employees . In the end our 2 night stay had both good and bad . It is expected that a beach resort would be overpriced but I also feel that they should follow through on the luxury they claim to have. In the end the resort was average and I have mixed feelings about going back .

After a successful stay in 2005, we returned to Lago Mar July 2012 for a week. As last time we had a wonderful week. The resort is the most relaxing place by the sea. Starting with a nice breakfast buffet, sun beds by the pool and sun chairs at the beach. Clean tovels are always available, and the service is exquisite all time. The rooms are great with perfect beds (not always this is a case in hotels around the world...).
There is also a good fitness facility at the resort.
The bartender and photographer, Mike, offers a photo session at a fair cost. We have now 170 nice pictures as a memory from our stay. We recommend to book Mike for a photo session. He is professional and you will get the pictures on a USB.
If you are going to Florida to relax in the sun, go to Lago Mar!!!

Family of 4 from from Norway.

This is our second visit to the Lago Mar. Last time in 2008. Unfortunately we booked late , so we got a suite with "only" a king bed, instead of 2 queen beds.

The hotel still has the charm, intimacy and comforts of which we remembered from the last visit. Lago Mar has a charming swiming pool with a lot of life and good atmosphere. In the evening there was live music by the pool, resulting in a Caribbean feeling. There was no problem getting sunbeds.

The hotel has a private beach where we enjoyed a large part of the 3 days we were there.

The less positive experience were: hamburgers we bought on the beach resturang tasted fairly good, and the sofa bed in the livingroom that was comfortable unfortunately was twofold.

Lago Mar is not a fancy modern hotel, but a hotel with good atmosphere, plenty of charm and very child friendly.

For those traveling as couples or with older children will mostly also enjoy this hotel, but it will also be other good alternaiver in the area.

We will most likely book this hotel next time we are in Fort Lauderdale.

We visited this hotel a couple of week ago. We picked it as it had cooking facilites, a seperate bedroom as there were 4 of us and the beach access. It is a little difficult to find but the sat nav soon sorted us out. It is a little spread out but you soon get your bearings. The room was great. Loads of space, it is furnished in a traditional floridian style so I can see what other negative reviews mean if they like modern. However, I loved it as i really felt that I was in Florida. Beds and bedding were great, everything very clean, lovely view of pool and beach. Air con was adjustable which we really liked and it had a nice dining table. Room negatives would be that again only 3 towles for 4 people, but they soon rectified that. The kitchen area was very very basic and this was a full kitchen!!! There were no baking trays for the oven, only 1 big and 1 little saucepan, no kettle and to plug the toaster in you had to balance it over the sink or on the floor. I think in some ways it was to detract you from cooking in and therefore eating in their areas, i can kind of understand that though.... They have free wifi, (but we could only get this in our main bedroom) , free undercover car parking, free pool towels and chairs, not many umbrellas though and a fab laundry. We didnt eat or drink in the hotel so cant comment on that. Prices seemed no to bad but thats without their mandatory 18% on top. The beach however must be their biggest assett? it was quiet, well kept, free chairs with foot rests and lovely warm sea. We did go to the main Fort lauderdale beach one day and it was busy, loud and really not nice, we couldnt wait to get back. You do need a car to stay here so as we had one it was fine. There are a lot of children but I can see why as there are so many safe facilities for them. We would def return to Fort Lauderdale and to this hotel.

after having 4 nights in New York didnt quite know what to make of this place, however very quickly realised that the Hotel is excellent, located right on the beach with outstanding service from the hotel staff from cleaners to waiters and staff on the beach, we were well taken care of. Joey at the concierge station a big happy new yorker was very helpful. If you havent hired a car as we hadnt ,you may struggle to get about in the heat. The pools are clean and well maintained, There are plenty of places to eat in the hotel and all the food we had was of an excellent standard and reasonabley priced. Try the Keylime pie. Its a family hotel and there are people of all ages but the atmosphere is very relaxed. Plenty of things for guests to do. This is the Turtle breading season and when you hit the beach you will see a lot of taped off areas, these are Turtle nests, Loggerhead, Leatherback and Green Turtle come up the beach at night lay eggs and return to the sea, then about 50 days later they hatch. All are at risk and a group of volunteers monitor the beach at night to protect the hatchlings and nesting mothers. The volunteers encourage you to watch with them and if you are lucky enough they will allow you to help round up the hatchlings which go in the wrong direction(towards the lights of the hotels) and collect them for licensed volunteers to return to the see. We were luck enough to see 3 nesting females and help round up 14 hatchlings. An amazing experience that made our holiday. Slight down side and only slight re location of the hotel , whilst handy for airport this means you hear and see them a lot but to be honest they dont dusturb you at all. Get a cab from airport direct to hotel as there is no courtesy bus. its cheaper and faster than the bus. Rooms are well appointed , air con , coffee maker /water heater, tv iron, safe and hairdryer. A big plus is the free wifi access on a wifi network throughout the hotel area.everything is paid on your room access card and you can pay credit card or cash at end of your stay. tips are included in the bills but you are given the chance to add on more if you like when you sign them. its a great place to chill out. Try the night time Jungle Queen river cruise , Food was fantastic and pleanty of it, you get to see how the other half really live, well worth a trip and good value.

Room Tip: we didnt get a good view but there are plenty overlooking the pool and the beach , i would ask for a beach view. Again though your only sleeping and chilling there so does it really matter?
