“A NICE family spot!”
Reviewed 18 January 2014

We stayed post cruise for a couple days. This hotel is old but it's not warn out! We liked it and plan to stay again in the future for perhaps longer. It has a resort feel which we liked but the size of the hotel made for plenty of space…and no crowding. Coming off a cruise, I appreciate that! We had a suite which was big enough for our family of 4. There was a fridge, microwave and some dishes for eating lunch. We ordered room service when we arrived and that was good too. The ocean seems closer then what it is but the fact that it is right there was a treat. No street to cross! All staff we encountered was friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: If you want ocean front pay the extra and get it.

Lago Mar is top notch! Our family of five(kids aged 10, 8, and 4) spent about a week here right after New Year's. There was ALWAYS something to do-swimming in their fabulous lagoon pool, playing at the beach, mini golf, playing on the playground...we were never bored! Even when the weather was not so great there were so many other kids around to keep ours busy! The food was great too-you can choose from very casual to pretty sophisticated. Best of all is that everything is very kid-friendly, sometimes hard to find at a high end resort. A very cool treat was a family photography session on the beach! Michael Holmes will come to you at your convenience and the pictures were priceless! The hotel is happy to help arrange a session. I visited Lago Mar as a kid myself many times and I love that we are starting the tradition again with our own children!

My husband and I have just come back from Logo Mar where we spent only one night with our two teenage daughters after a cruise. We had previously spent three nights at the Marriott Courtyard on Fort Lauderdale beach as it was close to where the rest of the family was staying but decided against staying there another night as it was so basic.
Lago Mar was wonderful from the moment we walked through the doors. We arrived very early as we had to leave the cruise ship by 8:30am and we were made welcome by the front desk staff as well as the concierge staff. They managed to get us into our room by 11am instead of 4pm and so we were able to enjoy our lovely suite which looked over the pool and ocean. The amenities were terrific and only wished the weather had been better to use more of them. One of my daughters forgot to pack a book she was reading and the staff managed to contact housekeeping and retrieve it. - thank you Josephine from the beach area! All of the staff we came across were very pleasant and helpful. We would definitely recommend Lago Mar to anyone who wants to be away from the main strip and relax.

Room Tip: Suites in the middle of the main building facing the pool are very spacious and have the largest bal...

My wife and and I and our 7 and 5 year olds spent a week at lago mar between Christmas and New Years. We had an amazing time! I researched the hotel pretty much all year so more or less knew what to expect. It's a wonderful property that attracts a solid family crowd. Lots of kids around with all types activities yet there is a more grown up section/pool if you like. It's self contained and the layout and amenities provide just about all you need. I've read just about all the reviews and what struck me the most was some people felt it was not a great value. This property is all about value. Yes, some things are dated but where else can you get a full service ocean front luxury resort (with a kitchen if you like) at these prices. No nickel and diming for parking, valet, internet, etc. and the food and drink is competitively priced as well. And very important, everywhere we went was very clean and the staff was very friendly too. Bravo lago mar! And as my wife said over dinner at lago mar..... "Let the tradition begin" see you next year! And for those looking for something more..... There's a ritz carlton right up the street.

After reading many of the positive review for this resort, we decided to make reservations for a couple days for a convention that was in town. Upon arrival I was definitely disappointed due to the very out dated furnishings and carpeting in the rooms - the furnishings look like they are from the 70's and carpeting in the rooms we rented needed to be replaced. The rooms did little to block out noises from outside hallways and other neighboring rooms. The staff was professional and friendly and the location on the beach was extraordinary.

My wife and I attended a wedding here and reserved a suite for the duration of the occasion. Our GPS took us to the door, without it we might have found the resort difficult to locate. First impressions were excellent, a warm welcome from two porters each with name badges and countries of origin. The reception area tastefully reflected the Floridian location and the staff at the desk were charming. There seemed to be a bit of messing about with room allocation but nothing too serious. We were shown to our suite by a helpful assistant and we found the accommodation to be excellent. There is an old world charm to the place that some might find outdated but actually it works well with the overall design of the resort. The views from our spacious suite were exceptional and the accommodation was well appointed and spotless. The bathroom included a large shower and a separate bath tub with an adjacent WC room. Two TV's, and fitted kitchen, comfy sofas, all good. We did not use the main restaurant for anything other than breakfast which was terrific, something for everyone. The food at the poolside was average but the service was fine. The impression from the website is that you walk out of your room directly onto the beach and into the water which isn't quite the case but the private beach area is large and uncrowded at a time the resort was full. All in all the resort represents value for money if you enjoy the reduced rates benefits of being a wedding party but we would hesitate to pay the $450 that some seemingly pay. Another slight inconvenience was the elevators of which there were only two, resulting in delays.

The wife and I stayed two nights prior to the Orange Bowl in a one bedroom suite overlooking the pool. The price was not cheap but not out of line with other hotels in the area. To our surprise, there were a lot of families staying here. The room and view was fantastic. Evidently it was recently remodeled as the carpet was new and the kitchen had Sub Zero appliances! They have a lap pool and another wandering pool for general use. The first evening we had dinner (and drinks prior to dinner at happy hour prices!) from a price fix menu, then the buffet breakfast the next morning and then sandwiches and drinks at the pool before the game. All were reasonably priced. The beach was wide and clean. The hotel location is in close proximity to the intercostal waterway where all the cruise ships, tankers and pleasure boats embark, so there was plenty to see. Getting to the hotel is a little challenging, so either get good instructions or use a GPS.

Room Tip: Pool side rooms from floors 3,4 or 5 have great views. They have ocean front but I didn't see t...
