Classic Florida upscale property. Loved our ocean front room and watched the freighters come and go. Where were they headed and where did they come from? A quite respite form the madness of downtown Ft. Lauderdale.

Room Tip: Pay the extra money and get an ocean front room

staying here in May with my 14 year old son.had a pool side view room on the 5th floor...but if I looked to my left I could easily see the ocean.

Pros-
-valet parking included
-wifi included
-super comfortable beds and very clean rooms
-immaculate warm swimming pool / pool area grounds were perfectly kept
-tennis courts, shuffleboard, chess, mini golf and all the other games we played were perfectly taken care of and game the quipment was issued out of nearby shack
-good grill on site ,reasonable price great food
-super fast check in with a detailed description of the grounds/map
-Beach is quiet and very clean; close to canal so you can watch cruise ships come in / out- beautiful clear water, nice place to hang out
-coffee pot, hair dryer, refrigerator and freezer in our room...some resorts charge extra for a refrigerator now. not this one!
-small convenience stores on site if you need stuff late in the evening including several different buckets of ice cream
To choose from.

CONS-
no hot tub, I knew there wasn't one going there... but that's just a preference of mine

everytime we come to Fort Lauderdale now we will stay in this hotel !
beautiful lobby /super friendly staff/ just overall a wonderful place to stay with a welcoming atmosphere!
Thx guys :-)

We stayed here recently for 2 days while vacationing in Fort Lauderdale. Good stuff first: When we first pulled up we didn't know what to think, but once we got inside and walked around the place and outside area it was very pretty. Lots of families were there having a lot of fun enjoying the pool and mini golf and tennis courts and hammocks. We mostly lounged under the tiki huts by the pool area and relaxed on the beach. Not much bad to say. We just thought everything was too expensive. Breakfast and Dinner ended up costing us a pretty penny. Even the soda shop.... we went in there for an ice cream cone and was told we get two scoops per cone, but if it was two scoops of different flavors, it was an extra $3? LOL. I mean it is pretty and it is LITERALLY right on the beach, but Im not sure if it was worth the $280 a night for us. We also got charged a $15 "resort" fee which they call a tourism tax. Oh and there are restaurants and bars and some shopping areas around BUT they are about 2 miles up. I think this place would be better if they provided some sort of shuttle too.

I want to thank you very much for your review and input. I am very pleased you enjoyed your experience at Lago Mar Resort. To clarify, we DO NOT have a "resort fee". The charge you refer to is a guest room tax. There is an added state sales tax and county tourist development tax added to the daily guest room fee. I appreciate you staying with us and look forward to your return to Lago Mar in the near future. Regards, James Pancallo, GM.

If you're looking for a great place to stay with your family, this is it. We stayed for 5 days with our 2 year old and had a blast. The property is full of activities that are great for kids - the playground right on the sand was a highlight, and we loved the gated pool, hammocks, huge private beach, mini golf, shuffle board, chasing lizards, and meeting other families with kids. The staff was accommodating, the grounds are beautiful and well-kept, and our room (King suite) was a good size and clean. The VALUE of this place is what really blew my mind... this size room on a comparable property in the Caribbean (or even Miami) would have been 2 or 3x the price.

The beach was very large and really private because of the secluded location of the property. Though the hotel was at capacity there was always a spot by the pool and a table for dinner.

The staff was great: Mike at the concierge desk went out of his way to help us plan a day trip, George at the pool bar entertained our son with ukelele songs, and a nice handyman jumped our car when the battery died.

The food was better than expected: tons of fresh seafood options, delicious dinner entrees, and decent kids options (the chicken breast saved us from fried food overload)

We had a walk-out room right on the ground floor, which we thought would be convenient with a kid, but once we got there we wished we had asked for a higher floor. The ground floor was a bit dark and there wasn't a view (and the sprinklers got our patio pretty soaked in the morning when we wanted to have breakfast.) The only other gripe about the room is they could update a few small things like the carpeting, but other than that we were really happy with the room. The kitchenette, the second bathroom, and the complimentary crib were all essential.

Recommendations:
*The Lion Country Safari is a drive-through safari and amusement park about an hour north and well worth the drive. Hand-feeding giraffes was a highlight of our trip! (And the concierge gave us a coupon for entry)

*15th Street Fisheries is an awesome restaurant about a 5-min drive from the property. It's right on a dock on one of the main canals, you get a killer view of the drawbridge, boats passing, delicious seafood, and the staff feeds giant Tarpons that live under the docks, so you get a good show. Great spot for kids or adults.

*Buy groceries at the Publix on the way to the property, we saved on breakfast (which isn't included in the room price and is about $20/person) and snacks by using our kitchenette.

Bottom-line: if you want a sexy scene with young singles and nightlife, this is not your spot. But if you want an effortless vacation with your family, stop looking now, do yourself a favor and it book here.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor when you book if you want a view. We weren't able to get one because we did...

We stayed at this hotel last week of March and I cannot recommend this resort enough! So easy with kids to be right on the beach and out of the main hotel area down by yourself. I loved my massage at the spa as well. We will definitely stay here again if ever in the area. Fun to watch the ships go in and out of port all day. William(from Ireland) was great as were all other concierge men. So close & convenient short few minute drive to the airport.

We stayed with our family for 10 days in April.
The hotel is very well situated for families that would like to use the beach and at the same time stay close to the beachwalk / centre of Ft. Lauderdale.

We appreciated the nice atmosphere of a family-run hotel. Nice pool, polite and welcoming staff.
We had some special requests in relation to our wedding and that was handled very well by the restaurant and the front desk.

Thanks a lot for an excellent stay.
