This was our second visit to Lago Mar. We were so impressed by the hotel during a conference that we attended there, that we decided to return for a short vacation.

Lago Mar is one of those places that you could "get used to." Beautiful, well kept grounds, a private beach, nice pools, a great spa, etc. Tons to do- pool, shuffleboard, chess, mini golf, playgrounds for the kids, and huge hammocks in the palm tree shade. The staff goes out of its way to make sure you are welcomed. (Special shout outs to Lane (beach attendant), Josephina (pool, towels, Tiki hut), Chris (Bar tender), the ladies in the Resort Shop and those in the Soda Fountain. They all go above and beyond to make you feel like family!)

There are really only two areas that I would expect more out of a resort of this quality. First is the food- it's not bad, it's just not what you would expect. (Breakfast buffet could use some work for sure- the omelet station/pancake station is great. The rest, not so much. We did not eat dinner on site, so I can't comment on the food at dinner.

Second is the hours kept by the pool bar. It would be so nice to be able to sit outside in the late evening and enjoy some time with friends with a beverage and/or snacks. It doesn't need to be open until midnight, but 10:00 would be nice!

Finally, housekeeping. The room is always clean- they do a nice job with that. But, quality control needs a bit of a boost. Sometimes we received 4 wash cloths, sometimes 2. Sometimes we received all new toiletries- sometimes, they didn't leave any replacement shampoo. The staff was always quick to "fix" the issue, but, this should be an easy one to take care of.

Other things to know: Rooms have small kitchenettes and refrigerators- awesome for quick snacks and keeping drinks cold. There are no ice machines (call the bell captain for ice, or do like we did and pick up a bag at a nearby shop and keep it in the freezer). This is a great place for kids- so expect a bunch of them!

Overall, we love this resort and will go back as soon as we can! Thank you for a great stay!

Room Tip: Try to get on the fifth floor if possible. The hotel grounds have a lot of palm trees. To have an oc...

We stay here every year for the 4th of July. This place is a beach club by day hotel by night. The staff are very professional and friendly. Nothing is overlooked. That must come from the top. The hotel is gorgeous with some old stone and woodwork. Valet is FREE! Likely because the parking spaces are so narrow. But, hey, its free!! The rooms are well appointed with soaps front the hotel spa. They have a few restaurants onsite: Soda shop which is a great place for breakfast. We love seeing our friend Vi from Cuba working there. So nice and caring. The pool restaurant is great. Michaladas which is a margarita mixed with beer. Fish tacos, etc... The staff remains the same year over year which says a lot about the place. Its right on the beach and they have 2 pools, one like a lagoon and one which is deep. They have outdoor ping pong table, mini golf, shuffle board, etc... Late check out seems to be a challenge each time we stay and the hotel should consider shower rooms to be able to rinse off and change before flight home. Over all this place is one of the best run hotels I've stayed in. Nothing changes and that is a good thing.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that faces the tool or ocean. Last time we stayed we had a view of the service area w...

We had a fantastic stay at Lago Mar. Our almost-three-year old loved all the activities they had on site (mini-putt, shuffleboard, play structures with hammocks for us to lie in while we watched him play), and thought the pools were wonderful. We loved the fact that our room opened on to the ocean and we could walk straight down to the private beach. For lunch we usually stayed at the pool-side bar which had a small but tasty menu, the breakfast buffet was very good with fantastic omelets and pancakes. The dinner menu had a good and fairly creative selection too, though there are enough good restaurants nearby that it's worth driving around a bit and seeing what's out there (parking is free at the hotel if you're driving) . The staff throughout was friendly and went out of their way to be helpful.

The room service was impeccable, we had a couple of housekeeping-related requests and they were handled very quickly and to our full satisfaction. Our rooms were spotless and while not ultra-modern they were extremely well equipped and there was nothing we lacked. On the rare occasion we needed to distract our little one for a few minutes while we figured out what to do next in the room, the wifi was even fast enough for netflix.

We also took advantage of the services of their on-site photographer Michael Holmes, who took wonderful family photos at some of the nicest place on the resort and wasn't slowed down a bit by our little guy who likes sitting still for photos slightly less than brussels sprouts. Strongly recommend looking into his services if, like us, nice family photos only happen once in a blue moon.

Overall, we had a fantastic trip and definitely plan to go back.

I loved it here. Came to Fl. for a wknd away and I booked Lago Mar mainly because of its positive reviews. I was not disappointed. I took a cab here and did not leave till it was time to catch my flight back home.

The restaurant and lounge area so comfortable and classy. Lunch and dinner was delicious and there was a wonderful Sunday brunch buffet. I loved the private beach with it's little cabanas and available beach chairs and towels, the 2 pools with a pool bar area and eating area. They had a little mini golf area and another little play area. They had a small diner outside along with a store to grab any necessities or souvenirs you might need or want. The entire hotel along with its outside grounds were beautifully decorated.

Our 1 bedroom suite was affordable, clean and just perfect with a king size bed, living room area, small kitchenette, huge bathroom with a tub, double sink and standup shower and full size balcony overlooking half beach and half bay area. Alot of guests were there waiting for their cruise to depart.

If you don't mind paying just a little extra than some of the other hotels on the beach, chose Lago Mar. Personally, I would not have wanted to be on the public part of the beach so the private beach and pools were worth it. If I ever come back to Ft. Lauderdale I would not consider staying anywhere else.

HOTEL: Hands down, a fabulous resort! Enjoyed this so much better than a 5-star Fairmont I just visited. Six of us in 2 room suite. Lots of Swedes visiting who are delightful. Spotless. Kid-glove guest treatment. Tasty room service food. We did not have a stove top, but had a microwave, 4' frig with freezer compartment, 3 dinner plates, silverware, wine bottle opener, Keurig and 6 cups, 2 dish towel, and 1 cloth. Soda shop adorable. Boutique with quality merchandise at decent prices. They provide beach towels and bath robes. Even saw a handicap chair that one could use to wheel someone into the water. Water was actually too warm. Flat beach and small waves, so one can feel comfortable with young ones - however, did not see a lifeguard. Pools close at sunset. Hammocks were awesome. Attentive, friendly staff from the moment you get out of your car. There aren't stores/restaurants within walking distance - a distance from the high rise hotels up the beach. But that's what made it awesome - a 5 story resort, plenty of space to relax and hang out, not on top of one another. A good vacation place where one can enjoy the breezes and sounds of the ocean. We will definitely be coming back!

TURTLES: Smack in the middle of nesting turtles June-August, you'll see spots roped off on the beach. Very comfortable walking the beach at 2am looking for hatchings. Volunteer Turtle Staff out at night watching miles of nests. Seemed "hatch outs" occurred between 10:00-12:30 and emerging turtles to lay eggs 10pm-1am. Wear dark clothing to blend in and not frighten turtles. Never touch or get too close - they are endangered. More nests to the left when one walks out to the beach, look for the darkest section with palm trees and no lights. Loggerheads lay closest to the water, greens in the middle, and leatherbacks way back by the tree lines. Avg nest has 90-125 eggs that hatch out at 55 days (sometimes to 57 days). They mark the dates they were laid. No flashlights please, only use a red light at night. Met lots of nice people. In the am, another organization stakes out the new nests. They also count to see how many laid, hatched out too. No problem with bugs (sand fleas), constant breeze made it wonderful to stay out for hours.

NEGATIVES: There are no ice makers on floors, you must call down for it. BUT, they are there within minutes and they even bring multiple bags of ice upon request. Intense sun resulted in many of us burning easily, even though we are regularly outdoors and on the northern beaches.

We've been going to Lago Mar about once a year for at least 25 years and it keeps getting better and better. The facilities have been continuously renovated and updated and they fit marvelously into the lush South Florida environment. But there are many spectacular places in the world, right? What makes this place so special is the professional attitude that EVERY staff member demonstrates ALL THE TIME! It seems each person's mission every day is to do everything they can to make sure each moment of each day is the the best you've ever experienced anywhere.

Room Tip: Our favorite rooms are in the "Old Wing" overlooking the pool and ocean.

You will not find a more critical traveler than yours truly! We researched and planned this long awaited family vacation with the guidance of TripAdvisor!----- 5 jaws dropped when we opened the door to our immaculate suite that was triple the size of what we expected. The room was ready 3 hours early and check in was efficient and easy! The room was immaculate and having two baths is wonderful. The pools are gorgeous. Plenty of seats. Love, love, love the location if this resort! We have an unobstructed ocean view that can't be put into words. We will be back without hesitation. The only problem I see is that they raised the bar for me for wherever we travel because they have shown me it is possible to WOW a traveler who has high expectations! You really can have it all while on vacation.....Logo Mar is the standard of Excellence we all deserve on vacation! (And the free washer and dryer is a great bonus too!)

Room Tip: We asked for quiet location as we have two children with autism and they were able to accommodate.
