“Fabulous winterset”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 January 2014

What a fantastic environment. Staff here,

What a fantastic surroundings. Three pools to choose from and a hot tub. Beautiful accommodations and we would recommend to any of our friends and are definitely coming back. Staff here,Abby was amazing and up graded our room and has been nothing less that fabulous and very outgoing. I would love to have her as my employee. Also,Claire has been absolutely great and the two of them are a treat to talk to. The two of them have made this trip very enjoyable. Definitely would recommend the Winterset to anyone. Thanks to the cleaning staff, rooms are spotless and the utilities are great.

abby,

Room Tip: I would definitely come again

susie c,
Wow, what a great review, thank you so much. It's nice to know that we were able to warm you up from those chilly Canada winters, not just with the weather but with the warmth of our staff. It really means a lot to us. Take care, NBV

Back to the Winterset Suites in Fort Lauderdale. for the second time in a year.
We were well taken care of by the staff, if you are looking for home setting and want to relax this is the place to be. Kat and Abbey were very sweet and could not do enough for us. We had a great experience. Abbey went out of her way to see we got the same room as last time seeing as it had sentimental value to us. Great location blocks from the beach.
This has become our favorite vacation spot. We would highly recommend this hotel.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights prior to a cruise. The check in staff was helpful and efficient and Kat placed us in a first floor room containing a standard king size bed at the property right next to the office. The bed filled up most of the room. There was a small armoire and chest of drawers with a TV on top. The bathroom was seemed small. Both of us had the largest suitcase allowed on airplanes as well as a carry on piece of luggage. The room was very crowded when we attempted to move about the room.

Unfortunately, our room was directly behind the smoking area which consisted of a table and some chairs. Since the hotel does not allow smoking in the rooms, you can imagine that the smoking area was quite popular. Since our door had louvered windows, there was not much of a buffer between 10 feet of people talking and our room. Late that night and early in the morning we were subjected to the conversations of other guests. One more thing that has been mentioned by numerous other reviewers, the walls, doors and windows are thin. Noise travels unabated through the complex, at least on the first floor.

I spoke with Claire the next morning about my dilemma. I offered to pay more for a room on the second floor. With a little gentle explanation about the room concerns, she moved us to a second floor king studio at no charge. This room had much nicer accommodations, was larger, contained a small dining table, and a small kitchen area as well. Oh yes, the noise from the first floor and the smoking area - couldn't hear it at all! Slept very well that night.

If you want to remember or see for the first time how homes and hotels were built using color schemes, windows and doors that are different from today, this is your kind of hotel. If you want the latest bells and whistles and technology, pass on this place as you will most likely be disappointed. I believe the office staff knows the shortcomings of this property and will try to assist you if you speak with them in a civil manner.

Knowing all of this, I would stay here again, ONLY if I were in a studio on the second floor of the property. The value is good compared to many other hotels in the area. The trolley is easy to hop on and off. Both the trolley and the beach are only about 3 blocks away.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the second floor, there will be less noise. Pros - Close to the beach. Beautifu...

So we booked our four day stay with winterset suites in Fort Lauderdale to enjoy a relaxing few days after spending 10 days cruising the Caribbean. We booked this through hotels.com. We specifically asked for rooms on the second floor or higher (not knowing if they had higher). When we arrived they had us booked on the first floor which I promptly refused so they sent us to their sister hotel the Beach gardens a block away. Same room, and I must say the rooms are beautiful, clean and this hotel was very quiet.
The pros were service was excellent, rooms were beautiful, staff was wonderful, hotel was very clean, location was perfect a block or so from the beach. Anything you needed the staf would bend over backwards to give you Kat and Claire were totally awesome. They gave us late check out for no charge since we had to change hotels.
The cons, no telephone in the rooms, to communicate with head office you had to USA some sort of bell system an the front door. The internet was not very good it would constantly come in and out so you had to connect to it constantly. It was annoying and I had better internet on the cruise which was satellite. Their is no soundproofing between the rooms. You literally were able to hear everything that went on in the other room as if you were in the room with them, this was a major disadvantage as I am a light sleeper and the room next door had two ladies who slammed doors at 7 in the morning very inconsiderate I might say but I blame the hotel not the ladies for the lack of insulation between rooms.

Room Tip: Take sleeping pills with you if you have an adjacent room with noisy people as you will not be able...

I'd actually give the Winterset 3.5. It would have been higher if it weren't for the fact that room 01 was badly situated in the path of traffic, the bottom slat on the front door blinds was broken off and people are walking past your room almost all of the time. Noise transfer was terrible. Doors slamming and people knocking on doors were all very loud and privacy was nonexistent. If I come here again, I'll ask for a different room. There was some mold on the ceiling in the bathroom, but I worry more about mold I can't see than a little mold that I do see in a tropical climate. I didn't mind the older architecture as I like places that have charm and flavour vs. opulence.

Now for the good. The suite was clean and nicely decorated in restful colours. We had a full kitchenette with fridge, gas stove, fridge, toaster, microwave and coffeemaker and the bed and pillows were wonderfully comfortable. The grounds of the Winterset were beautiful, palm trees, fountains and pools/hot tubs throughout. One block even had BBQs. Maids were sweet and helpful leaving things clean and placing fresh towels and even beach towels every day. Great location just two blocks from the beach.

Staff were ok. No one was very smiling or helpful, except for the maids. This is a lost art in the hospitality industry if you ask me. Being informative with a smile goes a really long way. When I checked in the woman said 'you're really early for your room.' Sorry-- my flight got in early and I haven't slept in three days. She could have just said 'we're waiting for the room to be made up-- it shouldn't be too long' Instead of commenting on my situation. Sometimes it's not what you say, but how you say it.

I would stay again as the rooms themselves are charming and breezy and the location and price are great. I felt comfortable there, and would have given it 5 stars if it weren't for the aforementioned issues.

I'd say it's a good bet for a longer stay in Ft. Lauderdale, but definitely don't get booked into room 01. It's nice, but if you're a light sleeper and like your privacy, you'll be quite ill at ease. FOr every negative, there seemed to be a positive to balance things out.

Room Tip: Avoid Room 01

I've spent about two weeks at the Winterset Suites and will continue to choose this property each visit to FLL.
The office staff was attentive, energetic, and knowledgeable, and always had a smile- all staff have excellent customer service skills. The beds are comfy, the rocking chairs are great and the lush greenery is well maintained.

Room Tip: I have stayed in 3 rooms and all have been great. The 1 BR apartments are fantastic for extended sta...

We were disappointed with our first room (room 10). The windows behind the bed headboard were very drafty and we could hear every sound from outside - noisey road and very windy weather. However, when we told the staff they were very helpful and moved us to a lovely apartment (room 208).

The room was large, bright and modern with a fully equiped kitchen, bathroom, walk-in closet and bedroom containing double beds. The large and airy lounge had a very large flat screen TV, couch, chair and dining table with four chairs.

The hotel is in a very good location just four blocks from the beach. It is a 20 minute walk to the Mall but you can also get the Trolley bus or number 40 bus which takes about five minutes. The Trolley bus will also take you down town. A Water Taxi stops close to the hotel (it costs $20 but you can use the ticket all day and the boat visits all the local attractions - a great way to spend the day. The round trip takes three hours).

Finding reasonably priced places to eat was quite difficult. This is a very expensive part of Florida - just look at the yachts and the real estate to know why.

We had trouble with the internet - hotel having problems with server, but the night before we left the reception staff helped us to get our boarding cards online and overall the hotel staff were excellent.

If we could get the same room (or similar) we would definitely consider staying at this hotel again and would recommend Fort Lauderdale which has plenty to offer the visitor.
