“Very pleasant stay at the Marriott”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 May 2011

We completed a weekend stay at the Marriott North in Fort Lauderdale. With the exception of a slight snafu (getting locked out of our room), we couldn't have been more pleased. The front desk staff was pleasant, and the lobby area was spacious and modern, complete with a huge flat screen TV and computer terminals. The fitness room was large by Marriott standards, and located alongside the outdoor pool. During our stay, the gym was always stocked with fresh fruit and clean towels. The room was large, airy, and comfortable. Our room overlooked the pool, and also overlooked the nature preserve located adjacent to the hotel. I met the general manager, Mike McClain, during the wine and cheese serving, and he couldn't have been nicer.

The restaurant buffet was scrumptious. We did not eat dinner at the hotel so I can't comment on the dinner fare. I would highly recommend this hotel for vacationers, romance or business....

Dear trip advisors!

I love the south Florida area but for the first time I stayed in Ft. Lauderdale versus Miami in the North Lauderdale Marriott located on 6650 North Andrews Ave! The stay and room was wonderful! I received the best service from a server from Guatemala called Melania! Her service was first class. I was late for a meeting and she served and guided me very well! Karla was also very sweet and professional too. I would definitely recommend this hotel again! I travel a lot and often to Marriott as I am a rewards member.

Stayed at the Marriott with a total of 7 family members for three days before a family cruise. It was a great hotel for our group because the pool and workout area are located on the 4th floor and the area is open 24 hours! It was great. There is a nice big area under an awning with outdoor furniture and we were able to hang out there and visit and relax,. There's also a very large whirlpool spa along with the pool. The location is a bit remote...there's nothing in walking distance although there is a small shopping center less than a half mile up the road. We had a car so it was not a problem. The hotel is very nice, the staff was great and very friendly. Nice bar with starbucks coffee. Would choose this hotel again if I was with a group.

We had an excellent time at this hotel. I really wanted a hotel on the beach - I didn't want to stay across the street. The reality was that the beach was not really walkable and we truly spent all of our time at the pool. The view from the room was very nice but we could have had the same view across the street at any hotel.

Don't bother with the cabanas. The view of the ocean is blocked by the bushes. One of the things we loved is they have wide lounge chairs for two people to share. They had a cool movie night at the pool, which kept the kids quiet. We don't have kids and were not looking forward to having them run and scream all over the pool but the movie kept them very quiet.

The spa was very nice and it was helpful (for me) to have a Starbucks on site.

We stayed on the Concierge Floor. Worth every penny for the great breakfast and enough of a selection during the cocktail hour, that we did not need to go out to dinner.
Coffee and dessert afterwards was a nice touch. The lovely lady in the morning and personable young man in the evening that attending this room couldn't have been nicer.

The only complaints I had with the room were no shower caps, and the little table holding the towels that was under the sink (which didn't have enough counter space). Kept whacking our knees on this table, as it didn't go completely under the sink. If you moved it to the bathroom, you couldn't close the door. Bed was great, desk space spacious, TV worked fine. Our room was very quiet---though the doors make a serious racket when you close them, so we were constantly being jolted awake by people opening and closing their doors when they were around. Don't know what the solution would be, except to change all the locks.

Nice little nature walk adjacent to hotel provided a quiet place to get out and walk, in what is a very busy commercial area.

Liked this hotel, overall and would stay there again.

Milling people in the lobby because of cruise ships should be addressed, though with this location, I'm sure it's a serious source of income for the hotel. Took away a sense of serenity, that I'm sure Marriott aims for in their hotels.

my room had a musky odor. i transferred to another room and it was better but still smelled. the hotel is not as well maintained overall as it used to be. I think it was the vents because when I turned off the AC it improved, but needed the AC. A conundrum.

Good: Free covered parking, free Intenet, excellent free concierge breakfast (weekday only), very friendly staff, good bag man with dining tips, Marriott bed was extremely comfortable, nice view from the 16th floor.

Fair: This hotel has an old world charm, if you know what I mean. Since the hotel location is in far north Fort Lauderdale, I would recommend staying here only on Marriott points.

Poor: Sunday breakfast buffet on the main hotel floor as very crowded and service was almost non existent. Buffet selections were typical Marriott. The waiter came with coffee for what seemed like 20 minutes after we were seated, then waiter ignored my wife's request for cream for her coffee. When the two us got ready to leave we got our ticket with a mandatory service charge of something like 20%. Later I spoke with "Louis" the hotel manager who said he was unaware of the mandatory service charge for serve yourself buffet.

Tip: If you email Michael McClain the front office manager mmcClain@marriottnorth.com and ask for a high room and speak nicely, you just might get a concierge level room. Keep in mind that the concierge level wine goes for eight bucks a glass for ordinary label wine.

All in all this is nice place to stay but I would only stay want to stay here on points.
