Superb hotel with an inviting bar, friendly staff, perfect rooms (see view) and within walking distance to Sanibel Island.
This hotel has dining facility in the bar or the restaurant and offers a breakfast counter, again with friendly personnel.

Room Tip: Resort view rooms are a must!

Don't expect a beach experience. The hotel is on the Lake Ocheechobee outlet with nice views of small islands and the larger Sanibel, etc. An average size pool and jacuzzi are on site and the San Carlos Bay beach preserve is literally just down McGregor Avenue. The hotel is insulated from the noise of the Sanibel bridge by heavy vegetation and is surrounded by Mangroves. Our room faced the water and had been updated with granite counter tops in the bathroom. I would guess the building is around 50 years old with the typically small bathrooms of that era. The tennis complex looks nice. Self parking is a hike; nice views of the mangroves on elevated walkway on the way to the lot, which appears to double as the employee parking site.

Northern Europeans favor the hotel. We encountered several Scandinavian couples with children; nice sophisticated vibe. The hotel employs an international staff as well.

Our only meal on site was breakfast and the service was "dicey". We were ignored for over 10 minutes due to miscommunication as to which server was assigned to our table. The food was average and pricey. The "season" was over when we visited, but the prices did not reflect it. Fortunately, the traffic flow did. We experienced no traffic from airport to hotel either coming or going.

This is a lovely hotel with great views, and a cheery staff. When it comes to food, they need to bring in people who have been to culinary school. The Starbucks cafe is OK. Both of their restaurants were terrible

When we booked our room, we did not realize the hotel had rooms outside of the main hotel property. We were assigned to the Captiva Tower. Though it had a nice view of the Sanibel Bridge, all of the amenities - restaurants, bar, etc - were in the main hotel (requiring 2 min shuttle ride, or 5 min walk Way).

Our tower did have a private pool which was great if you wanted to be away from the crowds / screaming children in the main pool. However, they had no pool-side service. We randomly found a menu outside, so I approached the 1 staff member in the 2nd floor lobby who advised that the menu should not have been left outside (apparently service only occurs in high season) but would place an order for us. 30 minutes later, we received a "cool" beer and watery daiquiri.

Beds were extremely hard and pillows were way too small for a king sized bed.

However, I will say - on the positive - the hotel had extremely friendly staff.

I tend to enjoy my Marriott experience, but this one left much to be desired.

Just checked in today and I have to say that it is very beautiful and breathtaking upon entering.. The property is well maintained and the lobby is spacious and clean. Our rooms were ready upon check-in but not the ones we paid for. Instead of a king, we had 2 doubles. That was fine. We checked with concierge to find out about dining and local activities we could book since our sunset cruise was cancelled due to weather, the attendant was not really interested. I had to drag information out of her. Off to the room which was nice and overlooks the ocean we headed downstairs to the Cove restaurant for what turned out to be a very sub average meal. The chicken was tough and dry, the chips were stale and the nachos were not even close. I tried to use the restroom off the poolside but the bathroom was SO GROSS, I couldn't even walk in as the floors were flooded and there was toilet paper literally everywhere!!! I went to the front desk an informed the attendant but he was half apologetic and I demanded they go and clean it up. I spent the next several hrs at the poolside and was unable to use the restroom because they had done absolutely NOTHING about it. So I went to my room to use facilities as needed. Still have the rest of tonight and tomorrow to see how this turns out!

I can't express it in words how pleased my husband and I were staying at this hotel. It seems like every room in the hotel has a view of the ocean and pool. Matt at the front desk was very professional and pleasant. He was always in the lobby greeting everyone. He remembered all of us. All the staff at the desk was great but Matt was a natural. Lauren at breakfast was very friendly. The spa and fitness center has classes all morning. The yoga instructors there are wonderful! This hotel is a gem!

This hotel is fine, but the area not so much. There is no beach at the hotel, but they have an ok pool. The problem is it is not on Sanibel (they don't pretend to be) and it is a few miles away each time you want to go over. There are really no decent restaurants around unless you go into Sanibel and it gets old driving back and forth. You can go inland onto Rt 41 and go towards Naples but that is quite a drive each time. The hotel is nothing special, and just a little far from things. The one negative thing I would say is that the hotel is over grown and if you are STUCK in the second building away from the main building you go through an over grown road that was actually a bit scary. You can take a shuttle but who needs it? Also, watch for huge spiders along that road. Tons of spiders. The hotel certainly is not a destination in itself and just a bit too far from anything.
