we spent 2 hours and there was so much to see. The gardens, houses, pool, river front and lab were very interesting. I want to learn more about the Edison and Ford families after this visit.

“Fun tour of the past in Fort Myers!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 March 2012

We spent almost 3 hours on a walking tour of the Edison/Ford estates along the Caloosahatchie river. For 20 dollars (adult), you get a wand that plays interesting descriptions of inventions, lifestyle and family histories at numbered stations around the grounds. The trees and plants alone are worth the trip. Add to that well-preserved homes, outbuildings, a lab and much more! The indoor museum is nicely done. And the shops are fun environments for further looks and sounds of the past. The food was pricey and not worth it. I would bring my own lunch or plan to eat somewhere else. Overall, a great visit.

A wonderful place to visit for a few hours. We learned alot about Edison and Ford. You get a headphone that you input a number to listen to the area you are at. If you prefer you can go a tour by a docent. Beautiful.

“Great Find in Fort Myers!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 March 2012

This estate gives you a slice of life around the turn of the century and illuminates the life of Thomas Edison, his wife and his good friend Henry Ford. What a story they have to tell! I learned many facts about the promotion of electricity and marveled at the working homes that still have the same fixtures and furnishings.

The tour guides were very well versed and informative. I liked having the wands for additional information. Tours take you through the grounds and home but I missed Edison's workshop and wish it was included. Definitely worth the time to see this summer retreat of two American giants.

I would recommend this for middle school aged children and up. Younger children may lose interest.
