On a recommendation from a friend, wife & I visited this unpretentious bar Monday evening, 8/18/14. At least 15 craft beers on tap - several from FL breweries. Our server Gabrielle graciously provided a sample of an IPA from a Sarasota brewery. I've written before about how so many bars in this area just don't get it - many of us are tired of the Buds, Millers, Coors. Fat Katz, Fords Garage & Brattas has figured it out.
We're originally from Philly so we recognize a good cheese steak. Wife loved her's - it had an unusual combination of provolone & american cheese. The roll was fresh & even though not as crispy as we would find in the northeast, it was acceptable. Perhaps someday we'll find good bread in the south. Wife had a tasty & fresh caesar salad (extra $1.50) instead of fries.
My "911 burger" was delivered medium rare as ordered. Spicy (serrano chiles & fiery mayo) as promised on a freshly home made brioche bun. The bottom of the bun was slightly soggy from the juices of the absolutely delicious burger so next time I'll ask for my bun to be grilled. The fries, though not plentiful, were tasty. A few more ounces of potatoes would have been welcomed.
Our server Gabrielle was excellent - prompt, gracious & accommodating. Plenty of large flat screen TV's to view sports. The restaurant was clean & well kept. We are definitely returning & recommending Fat Katz to our friends.
