We (almost-thirties) traveled to Ft Myers with my parents (mid-fifties), our two kids (2 & 6 months) - we have traveled to FMB most spring breaks of my life as a child, and my parents had stayed here a few times before. That said, I really didn't believe my mom when she said it was such a perfect location, cottage, had all the amenities we'd need, etc... but, as usual, mom was right.
We had the Sun Cottage -- it has two bedrooms up (both en-suite), a nice living area with plenty of seating, a dining area, and a fully-stocked kitchen (I mean stocked -- everything from a cake tester to serving trays). There is a huge deck with lounge chairs, another eating area, and down the steps is a large room under the house with a W/D, full bath, and two twin beds. We called it "The Troll Room" because the ceiling was about 6 ft tall down there, but it was cute and perfect. All rooms had a TV w/ cable, great bedding, and so many towels you couldn't get to the bottom of the stacks! It is 100% ceramic tile - no nasty carpet to walk on when it's damp.
The owners have thought of EVERYTHING. Our cottage came with about 10 really nice beach towels, drink coozies (to keep), and a thick nice t-shirt for each of us (to keep). The grounds manager, Sharon, came to check on us and was there daily, but you have to pay extra for a midweek clean. We didn't need one, but it was nice the option was there.
Our deck overlooked the fenced-in pool. It went from 3 - 6 feet and had a nice, wide ledge in the shallow end that my daughter (2) loved. The pool deck was stocked with chairs, tables, and lounges, and had shade in the afternoon (nice after a long day on the beach). We made friends from all over (literally -- Egypt, UK, Wyoming, Michigan, and Colorado). Everyone just raved about their cottages and how nice it was for a rental place. It really is a great place.
You are steps from the sand and its such great sand. They have lots of beach chairs and lounges to pull out to your spot on the sand. The CCOP cleared the dunes from in front of their beach so it is a straight shot on the sand. It's groomed and nice and they have a TON of kids sand toys near the lounges for kids to use and return.
The location is an easy walk to Times Square/ pier yet feels removed. You are close to the Pink Shell and all it's water sport rentals and such.
Just pack your suit and go! :) It was the perfect place for our family.
