Pink Shell Beach Resort & Marina

Reviewed 22 March 2014

We stayed at the Pink Shell last week at the height of Spring Break, in fact they were completely full. When I'm researching or reading reviews on hotels there are specific things I want to know, especially when I have never stayed there or in the area before. So here goes.... we stayed for the week in the Sanibel View building. I will break this review down by room, resort and area. So you can scroll down to the parts that interest you.
THE SANIBEL VIEW ROOMS - These are the size of a regular hotel room. They have a good size granite counter, stove top, microwave, coffee pot (smaller pot, maid service does leave you the typical already assembled coffee in filters that make about two cups of coffee.), MINI FRIDGE (not full size), kitchen counter area is stocked with utensils, dish cloths and pots and pans. The bathroom is on the smaller side, again the size of the average hotel room. There is not a lot of dresser drawer space, if you have more than two people in your room I recommend bringing most of your clothes on hangers. We were on the 3rd floor and the view was absolutely beautiful! If you can, I would ask to only be on the 3rd floor or higher (there are a total of five floors in the Sanibel View Building). The rooms are very clean. Again, not a ton of space but it is fine, these rooms are cheaper for that reason. Each room has a decent size balcony with a chaise lounge and rocker chair. The decks are screened and each one has beautiful view of the beach and Gulf. Maid service is every day and they change your bed sheets every three days.
THE SANIBEL VIEW BUILDING - Is located at the end of the property. This building has the quiet pool in front of it. Which is very peaceful. Sanibel View also has a direct access path to the beach. Because this building is on the furthest end of the resort there is a little bit of a walk to the main building and pool. You have to go to the main pool to get your beach and pool towels. You go through three different gates all requiring your wrist band to open them. It's only about a minute walk, not a big deal at all. The quiet pool has it's own restroom equipped with showers. Very clean.
THE RESORT - Pink Shell isn't considered a 5 star resort but they do have 5 star service. Every worker we encountered whether it was front desk, pool workers or waiters were so friendly and so helpful. The resort is very clean and has a little bit of everything. There are three pools. If you desire a busy, fun atmosphere the main pool has that. The middle pool is for toddlers and small children with fountains and it is very shallow, I think the deepest part is ankle deep. Then there is a quiet pool. There are two restaurants on property that are both excellent. Jack's is only open for breakfast - and has one of the best breakfast buffets I've ever had. Bongos is the pool restaurant/bar and has excellent casual food. Very reasonably priced. There is gift shop in the main lobby that serves Starbucks coffee. It's not a full service Starbucks, it's just regular coffee. One thing I didn't realize until my last day is that you can purchase a Pink Shell reusable mug in the gift shop and fill it all week with coffee for free. The mug is around $20.00. It's well worth it if you drink a lot of coffee because one cup is $2.00 and some change.
The beach in front of the hotel is beautiful. We were there when the resort was at capacity and the beach never felt crowded. Lots of room to sprawl out. The resort supplies beach chairs complimentary that are all set up for you. If you prefer you can rent an umbrella and wooden beach chairs as well.
I traveled with two teenage girls and another mom. The resort was perfect for our group. A lot of excitement going on for the girls and plenty of relaxing for the moms. Pink Shell really does have a little bit of everything for everyone. The sunsets are breath taking.
THE AREA - Pink Shell Resort is located 3/4 of a mile from Times Square, which is where a lot of restaurants and a few shops are located. The shopping is definitely more touristy, it's NOT an upscale area with boutique shops. It's very casual and was quite busy when we where there. It's a very easy walk from the resort to Times Square. You can walk the beach to get there or you walk on the side walk on the street the whole way. There is also a trolley that stops in front of the hotel that will take you there. In addition to restaurants and shops at Times Square, there are also street performers at night which makes it fun. And, a band performs on Friday and Saturday nights. Times Square isn't very big, so it's easy to walk every where. We did not rent a car and we were fine without one.
MISC.- Make sure you return your wrist bands before you leave, if you don't there is a charge!

We have been vacationing every year at the Pink Shell for the past 15 years. We had an issue this year with the ability to fish at the resort. Every year we were able to fish at the dock across the street from the hotel, this year there were restrictions and unfortunately we were unable to fish during our time there, very disappointing for the kids. However, Mark, the customer service night manager and Derrick the bell person were both very sensitive to the issue, they were helpful, and did their best to resolve the issue. Even though we were disappointed, we can't over look the wonderful customer service by Mark and Derrick!

We thank you for your loyalty to our resort and for returning each year. Fifteen years of vacations at the Pink Shell, wow! Thank you for writing this review and for bringing your fishing experience to our attention. Fishing is allowed at the Pink Shell Marina and we apologize that those designated areas were not clearly communicated as we have relocated the venue. We have available bait and tackle supplies at our Marina and our waters are abundant with snook, redfish, and trout. On your next visit, rest assured that you will be able to enjoy the pleasures of fishing with your kids.

Kind regards,

Steve Contes

We are loving every minute of our stay at Pink Shell!! Their attention to detail is second to none. We had an issue with our TV and within minutes it was replaced with a new one! I feel very spoiled each breakfast with my omelet made to order daily with a huge bowl of fresh fruit salad. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Thank you Pink Shell!!!! You're the BEST!!!

We loved our stay at the Pink Shell! We have two girls ages 3 and 5 and they loved the Octopool! It has a zero depth entry on one side and the other side has a 3 foot entry with up to 5 feet deep at the deepest part of the pool. The water was so warm and at night time the pool lights up with different colors. The beach is beautiful and large and it is very easy to go from the beach and back to the pool which was great for us since we wanted to be able to easily experience both. We stayed in two different rooms while we were at the resort because my mother-n-law and brother-n-law were with us for the first part of our stay and we loved both of our rooms. We stayed in the White Sands Villas 2 bedroom with amazing views and a lot of open areas. We also stayed in the Captiva Villas 1 bedroom which was great for the 4 of us. Both rooms had amazing views and large showers which was awesome for being able to help the girls wash their hair without getting water all over the bathroom. My mom, dad, sister and brother stayed in the beach villas 2 bedroom and again had a great view and their suite felt like a little house with windows on 3 sides of the suite. They could watch both the sunrise and sunset from their room! All the staff were amazing and did everything they could to make us feel relaxed and special (we were celebrating my 40th birthday and the concierge helped my husband get the most delicious birthday cake!). We really enjoyed the breakfast buffet every morning. No matter what time we got there, the food was hot and fresh (even when we got there a little before the buffet was over). The fruit was the best, super fresh and lots of it. The Pink Shell is far away from the craziness of "Spring Break" so you can have good clean family fun without worrying if your kids will see something their innocent eyes shouldn't see. We can't wait to go back to the Pink Shell again!

Room Tip: We saw three different rooms types while we vacationed at Pink Shell and they all were awesome. I...

Fort Myers beach is a pain to get to, traffic traffic traffic. The last 3 miles of getting there took us an hour each time over the weekend. Once there, the beach itself was very nice, the three pools offered choices from kid-friendly to quieter. The food at Bongos was better than expected, and the staff all around was pleasant and helpful. Overall I rate the Pink Shell a 3 for accomodations- the room was ok, bathroom tiny, most of the indoor spaces both public and private unpleasantly smelly. Very small exercise/workout room with I think only one stationary bike. Probably won't go back to Ft. Myers beach as the experience on the whole wasn't worth it.

Room Tip: We stayed in the "Sanibel" building which is less crowded and hectic than the main buildin...

We had the pleasure of staying at this resort for a week at the end of February into the first part of March. The resort is located at the quiet, northern end of the island. We were warmly welcomed by the valet and at registration desk. We requested our suite be moved to a higher floor which was done with ease. We were very pleased with the rooms and especially loved the view of the Gulf and Spectacular Sunsets through either the screened lanai or the huge floor to ceiling windows!
The weather was very much on the cool side of first two days, then turned very warm for the rest of the trip. A must do is breakfast at Jack's! The chefs at the omelet station were awesome. When the weather permitted we imbibed drinks (try their special) by the pool and ate lovely lunches at Bongo's. We had outstanding service by everyone! This resort is lovely, but the traffic on the island is horrendous. The main road moves at a snail's pace, mid morning through late dinner time. Walking is faster than driving!! Spring Break arrived, but the students were fun to watch and brought back memories of bygone times.

Room Tip: the upper rooms provide better views.

This was my first trip to Pink Shell but won't be my last. I plan on returning! We stayed in the Captiva building and everything from the service to the view was excellent! We were able to take advantage of everything: the pools, restaurants, beautiful beach and water sports. Every employee we encountered was so pleasant and helpful. We really felt like they went out of their way. I highly recommend the Pink Shell.
