We stayed at the Pink Shell last week at the height of Spring Break, in fact they were completely full. When I'm researching or reading reviews on hotels there are specific things I want to know, especially when I have never stayed there or in the area before. So here goes.... we stayed for the week in the Sanibel View building. I will break this review down by room, resort and area. So you can scroll down to the parts that interest you.
THE SANIBEL VIEW ROOMS - These are the size of a regular hotel room. They have a good size granite counter, stove top, microwave, coffee pot (smaller pot, maid service does leave you the typical already assembled coffee in filters that make about two cups of coffee.), MINI FRIDGE (not full size), kitchen counter area is stocked with utensils, dish cloths and pots and pans. The bathroom is on the smaller side, again the size of the average hotel room. There is not a lot of dresser drawer space, if you have more than two people in your room I recommend bringing most of your clothes on hangers. We were on the 3rd floor and the view was absolutely beautiful! If you can, I would ask to only be on the 3rd floor or higher (there are a total of five floors in the Sanibel View Building). The rooms are very clean. Again, not a ton of space but it is fine, these rooms are cheaper for that reason. Each room has a decent size balcony with a chaise lounge and rocker chair. The decks are screened and each one has beautiful view of the beach and Gulf. Maid service is every day and they change your bed sheets every three days.
THE SANIBEL VIEW BUILDING - Is located at the end of the property. This building has the quiet pool in front of it. Which is very peaceful. Sanibel View also has a direct access path to the beach. Because this building is on the furthest end of the resort there is a little bit of a walk to the main building and pool. You have to go to the main pool to get your beach and pool towels. You go through three different gates all requiring your wrist band to open them. It's only about a minute walk, not a big deal at all. The quiet pool has it's own restroom equipped with showers. Very clean.
THE RESORT - Pink Shell isn't considered a 5 star resort but they do have 5 star service. Every worker we encountered whether it was front desk, pool workers or waiters were so friendly and so helpful. The resort is very clean and has a little bit of everything. There are three pools. If you desire a busy, fun atmosphere the main pool has that. The middle pool is for toddlers and small children with fountains and it is very shallow, I think the deepest part is ankle deep. Then there is a quiet pool. There are two restaurants on property that are both excellent. Jack's is only open for breakfast - and has one of the best breakfast buffets I've ever had. Bongos is the pool restaurant/bar and has excellent casual food. Very reasonably priced. There is gift shop in the main lobby that serves Starbucks coffee. It's not a full service Starbucks, it's just regular coffee. One thing I didn't realize until my last day is that you can purchase a Pink Shell reusable mug in the gift shop and fill it all week with coffee for free. The mug is around $20.00. It's well worth it if you drink a lot of coffee because one cup is $2.00 and some change.
The beach in front of the hotel is beautiful. We were there when the resort was at capacity and the beach never felt crowded. Lots of room to sprawl out. The resort supplies beach chairs complimentary that are all set up for you. If you prefer you can rent an umbrella and wooden beach chairs as well.
I traveled with two teenage girls and another mom. The resort was perfect for our group. A lot of excitement going on for the girls and plenty of relaxing for the moms. Pink Shell really does have a little bit of everything for everyone. The sunsets are breath taking.
THE AREA - Pink Shell Resort is located 3/4 of a mile from Times Square, which is where a lot of restaurants and a few shops are located. The shopping is definitely more touristy, it's NOT an upscale area with boutique shops. It's very casual and was quite busy when we where there. It's a very easy walk from the resort to Times Square. You can walk the beach to get there or you walk on the side walk on the street the whole way. There is also a trolley that stops in front of the hotel that will take you there. In addition to restaurants and shops at Times Square, there are also street performers at night which makes it fun. And, a band performs on Friday and Saturday nights. Times Square isn't very big, so it's easy to walk every where. We did not rent a car and we were fine without one.
MISC.- Make sure you return your wrist bands before you leave, if you don't there is a charge!
