“One of our top 5 vacation resorts”
Reviewed 3 May 2014 via mobile

Best accommodations nicest views and very friendly helpful staff. Can't say enough about the room but recommend 5901 as the best view & quietest in this building. Would not hesitate to stay here again. Oh and the food prices were not resort gouging typical. Not cheap but fairly priced.

My husband and I stayed at the Pink Shell during March (Spring break time!) as a belated celebration of our 20th wedding anniversary. The hotel was beautiful, food and drinks were great, and the staff were uniformly great people. Everyone I talked to was working as hard as he or she could to make sure our experience was great.

That said, if you stay here, be aware that it is a very family-oriented hotel - there are lots of kids about (ours stayed home with Grandma!). The hotel does a great job offering activities and entertainment to keep them busy; we saw all kinds of arts and crafts workshops and the first night we were there, there was a "Dive-in Movie" - the children were watching "Frozen" in the pool, with free popcorn! If you're not tolerant of kids, this hotel would not be a great choice, but we thought it was really sweet.

The beach was one of the prettiest I've ever seen - sugar-white sand, LOTS of seashells and marine life... and we rented beach chairs and had drinks with fruit floating in them... how good can life get? I also had the opportunity to learn stand-up paddleboarding from the friendly staff at the rental hut on the beach.

The only drawback to our entire vacation was the *really* bad traffic on the island. Fort Myers Beach is simply too popular for its own good... If I lived or worked there, I would petition the town council to make the island off-limits to private vehicles and develop the public transportation instead. (It'd help preserve the stunning natural environment too!)

Room Tip: We had a room in the White Sand Villas (the main building), 3 stories up - great view of the pool an...

I would like to congratulate you on celebrating 20 years of marriage, Happy Anniversary! Thank you for choosing to stay at the Pink Shell for this special occasion. I am so happy that you enjoyed our white sand beaches and that you were able to relax and enjoy your time together- just the two of you. We hope to see you on your next anniversary, if not before.

We've been to both of those places. The Pink Shell is better. The experience is outstanding. A great beach. A nicely appointed room that is very clean -- and kept that way each day. Really good food that is not like typical "hotel food", and it's not over priced compared to other tourist-focused dining establishments. And the "topper" to all of this? An incredible staff. They work so hard, and they're patient and pleasant and will do whatever it takes to try to exceed your expectations. Really. This is exactly what we experienced. No matter who we encountered during our stay. Finally, they understand Americans. They know we expect attention to detail, a quality product, a great experience, outstanding service, the highest degree of cleanliness, compliance with the most stringent health and safety standards, and of course, value -- great quality for our hard earned vacation dollar. The other places in the Bahamas or Caribbean just don't understand our expectations like The Pink Shell. They delivered on all of these points. We will be a repeat customer.

We spent 3 days at Pink Shell and it was pretty amazing. We got a room on the 8th floor with an amazing view of the ocean and sunset. The room was very comfortable and way larger than expected; it had a separate bedroom and living with plus a screened in balcony to sit and enjoy sunset. The bed and pillows were very comfortable.

We had breakfast daily at Jack's, great selections and make to order omelette was a plus. We didn't have to wait when we got there around 9am, we waited for about 15 minutes or so for a table when we got there after 9:30am.

We got drinks at the pool bar daily and we just couldn't get enough of the Cocoberry Colada; I'm still dreaming about it. We asked the bartender to put on the Hawks vs Blues game and the bartender was more than happy to do so. I was worried that I wouldn't get to watch Game 6, I know...I know...I'm on vacation and shouldn't worry about watching tv but I'm a huge Blackhawks fan and couldn't help it.

The beach was beautiful and clean; I was very impressed at how clean the hotel ground and beach area was. Beach towels and chairs were complementary, however, you will have to rent an umbrella if you need one ($~22/day). I like how nice and quiet it was on the beach around our hotel. We walked along the beach for about 2 miles to Fresh Catch Bistro. We noticed that the beach was not as nice and clean further down but felt pretty safe to walk.

Overall, I highly recommend Pink Shell for the value and location. I will definitely come back when if and when we return to Fort Myers.

Room Tip: higher floor for better view and could be noisy lower floor near pool area

This place is awesome. The food, the pools and the people are great. We came in April and the weather was beautiful. I would definitely recommend this place. Lots of kid stuff everyday. Bongos is a fun bar too.

This resort is by far my favorite in all the resorts I have stayed in Florida. The resort was clean, plenty of things to do for 3 teenage children as well as adults. The absolute best customer service in that after my husband ended up in the ER and on crutches (result of a game of beach volleyball) the General Manager extended our check out time until 3:00 PM with no charge. We asked for late check out due to evening flight and he did not hesitate to accommodate our family so that we were not stuck in an airport for 4 hours. We are planning on coming back next Spring Break to have a RE-DO at the Pink Shell, would not change a thing about the entire facility.

Stayed 4-12 to 4-19 with my husband and 12 yr old son. Hotel room was 5th floor Pool building.

Pros+++
+Very stunning setting. East Halls face marina and sunrise, west - well the pool, beach and ++++million $ sunset.
+Very clean colors decorations in hotel suites & rooms.
+Lobby is stunning. Lanai was great to sit @.
+Coffee served and provided in room is Starbucks. Great choice.
+ Jacks Breakfast Buffet = was superb! Unlike other posters - we received our coffee/juice timely. We also tipped every meal- even the bad ones, every valet and the maid every day.
-Chef John made great omlettes and waffles
+Valet gentlemen = well + very courteous.
+Rachel at Bongo's is the only one with real customer service. you should make her manage the place. Or train to move her up.
+daily paper
+proximity to Times Square and Bowditch Point.
+slept good on the master bed

General comment - you share the beach with weddings. There were six weddings in five days. Band /DJ coudlbe heard at night. Excellent wedding venue with sunset backdrop.

Cons---
- PinkShell needs a month/week calendar of events to opt into. There was no organized children's activities in the pool building. You could pay for daycare which was great if you have small children. Event calendar would be as follows: Fishing off pier 9AM (offer pole rentals/purchases) , MarcoPolo pool game 11AM , a volleyball game at 1, crafts at 2pm, Sandcastle contest @3, ,. etc... Having sundaes and a craft daily is not enough and very disappointing. We have stayed in Myrtle Beach, Dunes Village, and they hand out a months schedule of events at the hotel for kids. Our son was very lonely & bored! I would not recommend this place for a lone child.
-You have to pay for Coffee in the lobby?? Really ?? Room prices should negate free coffee. This is ridiculous .
-Bongos will make you Bongo... extremely poor service and quality of service. I work in a customer service area that includes food catering service. They need a dedicated adult manager to ensure all persons seated get prompt service. Rachel was the shining star! The greeter was always missing ... hmm seemed to be a pattern. I bought lunch meat and made lunch and drinks. Maybe you need flags at each table so that you can raise them for need of service/waiter.,
-One Bartender during lunch time and a long line of thirsty folks. Seems like they don't want revenue from Bongos.
-Bongo's food was overcooked. and not consistent. You could taste the fish deepfried into the same fats as french fries. We gave you 3 tries and you strook out!
-during a storm mid day, news paper and derbis were in the pool including leaves. No one skimmed the POOL - unbelievable after the storm went by then we had a night movie.. You should have a floating valet guy skim if pool is dirty. They look like go-getters.
-Breakfast served at 7:30 - that's late.
- Couch /fold out bed was very tired - old
-No towels and dishrags in room first day/Sat 4-21. No dishsoap either.
-no clear instruction that you need 2 of those coffee bags to make one good pot of coffee. We ended up with hot water.
-Place all hotel /area info into a binder that we could find and reference.
