We scheduled a last minute family Spring Break trip the last week in March, so we were looking for an easy-in/easy-out Delta flight with nothing more to do but hang out on the beach and poolside. The Four Points by Sheraton was a 20 minute cab ride (~$38 + tip). But staying on this part of Ft. Walton Beach, it definitely would have been better to rent a car for the duration of the trip as most of the restaurants within walking distance (along the beach) are tourist traps, serving mainly fried, not necessarily fresh, seafood (except the Black Pearl -- food and portions were excellent). A car would have also made it easier to buy groceries for the week as our room was equipped with a nice sized (not mini) refrigerator and microwave.

The hotel itself and the grounds could use a little "polish" to spruce it up a bit, but overall it was clean and the staff was very courteous. IMO, unless you are on a super tight budget, will keep the curtains closed 24/7 and you don't want to open the balcony door at night to listen to the waves, forego the "courtyard view" (and "parking lot view" -- hey, at least they are honest upfront with what you are getting) and definitely spring for the oceanfront view rooms. At $200/night (no upgrade even though we are SPG members), the sight and sounds of the Gulf right outside your balcony and the waves lulling you to sleep at night were well worth the extra dough.

The two (slightly) heated pools were great for the kids (both under 6) and the walk to the beach was literally steps away (also great for hauling all of their gear and towels). The beach was nowhere near crowded this time of the year, as if we were on a private beach. Those who were also there were other families or couples with no kids. While the fishing pier ($2/person to enter!!) and boardwalk shops and restaurants were within walking distance, it was definitely toward that end of the beach where more of the collegiate Spring Break crowd was gathering. Note: we chose Ft. Walton Beach as opposed to the more commercialized and collegiate crowd in Destin - not a good idea w/o a rental car in these parts as we were told some of the better restaurants were in Destin. The beach itself was unparalleled and probably the best I have ever been to -- white "fluffy" sand, clear water and a slight breeze. I don't think that part of our trip could have been any better!

The room itself was clean with an updated granite bathroom, fresh paint, flat screen TV (no HD), crisp white linens and modern touches in the curtains and artwork. The entire hotel is non-smoking (a big plus for us) and there were definitely no signs of smoking in our room. Each room also had a nice-sized refrigerator and small microwave, free wi-fi (although a little slow) and A/C. But the best part was definitely the view and the generous sized balcony (equipped with chairs and a little table) -- the kids would rather hang out there and watch the beach and surf activity than watch TV. The worst part would probably be the beds -- they were very firm and the pillows offered zero support. Not a comfortable way to sleep for anyone in our family.

The food at the hotel was OK. The breakfast buffet was typical, but at $9.50/person ($4/kids under 8; kids 3 and under FREE), it was fresh and you could always take away a little snack for later in the day. Dempsy's, the on-site "restaurant" should really be renamed a sports lounge - it had awful ambiance for a family. The food was so-so, except for the she-crab soup/chowder. That was the best we had in the area and we tried it in two other restaurants.

Overall, Ft. Walton Beach is VERY laid-back (you could walk-in off the beach barefoot to most restaurants), very kid-friendly (multiple on-beach playgrounds for the kids while you waited to be seated for dinner), slightly over-priced restaurant-wise, but the beach itself is unmatched. There was nothing about the hotel itself that would turn us off from making a return trip, but there was also nothing really remarkable (except the beach) about it either.

Room Tip: With the Gulf right outside your balcony, rooms in the tower are the only way to go. The surf is so loud, you don't hear ANYTHING else in the hotel and the views are unparalleled.

The hotel is a bit down at the heels, probably the result of the recession, but I have never had a better setting or more helpful staff. I will be back!

Room Tip: Go for the tower with the beach view. The rest are ok, but the view and sound of the surf are worth the extra

We stayed two nights in Mid March and found the hotel to be a good choice for it's oceanfront location and to explore all surrounding areas. The rooms are reasonably large, clean and well equipped ( a good sized refrigerator, sink and microwave). Unless you are on a tight budget, I would definitely recommend getting one of the oceanfront rooms. The view and sounds of the sea are terrific! Your only a short walk to the long fishing pier and boardwalk shops. A short drive to Destin over the bridge gets you to a fun river walk and charter fishing docks area.

Room Tip: The oceanfront rooms are definitely worth the premium!!

First off we got a good deal through SPG( Starwood Preferred Gust) e-mail alert. At $68 a night I would definitely return. We had a parking lot view, again not bad considering the rate. They have a very nice courtyard view along with the beach view. Rooms were spacious, bathroom minimal, cute decor, and newly remodeled. The only reason for the 3 was because of the bed. For a newer bed it was lacking support. My husband is 6'5" 290, I shouldn't be rolling towards him in a king bed and the bed shouldn't move around just to change sleep positions. We've stayed at Westin's, Marriott, Hampton Inn, Hyatt, and other time share resorts and have had better beds. A bed is an important part of the stay.
They were accommodating, we drove all night and the let us check in early 5:30 am for only $20 more.
We had the buffet one morning, it's ok. I've had better complementary breakfast where you get waffles. This one is $9.50. There are 2 pools, one is beachside.
Finally the beach, beautiful! You can rent chairs and umbrella $25. 8-5pm Then walk down the beach to a multicomplex of a few shops and restaurants to watch the sunset and have drinks.
I would stay again if they had another great deal.

My Children and relatives gave me a surprize birthday party at the Sheraton Four Points and It was a fantastic resort for a celebration. We had a gulffront suite and watching the dolphins from the balcony was a special added treat.. I cannot say enough about the staff and management. Peggy M. and Edi G. are wonderful employees. Hats off to a fantastic Four Points team.

Great Memories! Thank you!

Room Tip: Reserve a cornor suite! Beautiful..
