Southern inspired dishes with some nouveau influences and local ingredients make it a fine companion to Mildreds.

Excellent service and food. We had the smoked fish dip which was fresh, but a little on the creamy/sweet side. The tortilla chips could have been a bit fresher. For our entrees, we had the blue gill burger and the brisket. The burger had a great smoky flavor and the pimento cheese was a nice touch. The brisket tasted a bit more like pot roast. Would eat here again.

We have been to Blue Gil several times and have always enjoyed their food. We took our son with us on one occasion and he was very impressed with the quality of the food. However, on every visit to this restaurant we have had VERY slow service.

If you don't know of Chef Bert Gill you would not think this could possibly be a great place to eat. Located in a storefront on 13th Street on the first floor of a parking garage, it has no personality inside or out. even finding a parking space is hard due to poor planning by the garage's designers. Once you do find a place to park the signs say you must pay at the machine located near the entrance, away from the Blue Gill. HINT: Parking is free all the time. Just take your receipt in and they deduct the cost from your meal. We had three courses, fried okra for me and fish dip with home made chips for my spouse, we both had the roasted chicken and she had ice cream while I had peach cobbler. Everything was fresh and cooked to perfection. The place is very clean, but eclectic with lots of exposed concrete and ducts and conduits. The bar is very good with wide offerings. Acoustically it is a little loud so you may want to ask for a table near the back. This is a college town, so the servers are not professionals, but were very good and knew the menu well. You can't beat the price, $20 for three courses. Real home cooking with a chef's flair and real fresh food. I'll go back.

Amazing cocktails and seafood (try the shrimp and grits appetizer!). Best for groups. If you're going as a couple you might need to ask for a pleasant table, or else they'll put you in a corner.
