“Great food but lacking atmosphere”
Reviewed 7 November 2013

Chef Bert Gill is Gainesville's top chef in my opinion and his employees love to work WITH him. The food is as local as possible, fresh to the extreme. Great taste and seasoning. The butternut soup and the escargot were wonderful. Everything was better than good. The service is some of the best and nicest in town. Unfortunately, the atmosphere is lacking, although clean. If you care more about the taste and food quality than the building decor you will be pleased.

“Spectacular pompano”
Reviewed 3 November 2013

Mildred's has a lovely ambiance and very good service. The menu is somewhat limited but they do have gluten-free options and hearty vegetarian fare.
The pompano was very light, tasty and well prepared. One in our party had the pork tenderloin. The chef prepared it "medium." It went back for a bit more heat as it appeared more on the rare side.
The desserts, while nicely presented, seemed a bit dry.

Mildred's is located in an unimpressive back corner of a strip mall. The decor inside is plain. The service and food, however, were outstanding! The staff was attentive, friendly and knowledgable. The food selection was impressive for a little restaurant, with its menu changing daily based on ingredients that are available locally, in season etc. There was a mix of classics such as crab cakes, Cornish hen and New York Strip... but prepared with a fine touch. Other items were unique and delishious, such as the snails with fresh, homemade linguini. The selection of fish was broad, such as cobia, pompano, Idaho brook trout and wild salmon. The salads were well received, particularly the white bean salad with smoked sausage.

Our son recommended Mildred's to us during a visit to him several years ago. We have been impressed with the consistent excellence of the food--quality of ingredients, creativity, presentation and service. The wine list is very reasonable and unusual; all the wines we've tried have been very good to outstanding. It's been awhile since we've been there, but clearly the restaurant is a standout in the area and has established itself among connoisseurs of fine dining. There are options for small plates or more traditional large plates. The clientele is sophisticated and appreciates the cuisine, so the tone of the restaurant is relaxed, friendly and classy. It's our go-to place in Gainesville. No other place comes close!

“Prixe fixed Takes flight with sweet potato soup and wne”
Reviewed 28 July 2013

We took advantage of Restaurant week and found a worthy destination at Mildreds. We used their fixed price, augmented with the awesome sweet potato soup and perfectly complimentary red wine flight.. Host David deftly balanced wine selections, order taking, and dessert advice Zucchini salad also brought unexpected joy as the greens tasted fresh, the tomatoes had flavor, and the squash variety and dressing elicited smiles.
Mildred's champions local food along with its other companion restaurants. It remains re-assuring to see a long standing restaurant and owner recently provided an insightful interview in a local business journal.
Duck sausage next, and perhaps a visit to Blue Gill.
