“A Beautiful place but extremely filthy”
Reviewed 1 December 2008

It's sad, because this place could truly be a beautiful place.
1st of all the bathrooms are filthy and disgusting, they never disinfect. Their idea of cleaning the bathrooms when they do is spraying everything with a hose, even spraying the toliets with the hose. Bring your own toliet paper because half the time there isn't any paper. The springs are beautiful, however the party animals ruin it all. The campsites are real nice, but the place lights up at night with all the party animals. I feel it's rather expensive for the price and what you don't get - any service.

We made the mistake of going to this campground without checking these reviews first. If your looking for a party, this is a great place to find a karaoke bar, country bar, and dance club for one $18 cover.

We went here planning on doing real camping and found something we've never seen before. I'm not sure why they have rules and regulations on the brochure or website, because there certainly weren't "quiet hours".

Again, if you want to party, this is a great place to party... but it should not be considered a place for camping. I wish there had been a warning to newcomers so that 6 of us could've spent $120 more wisely.

We went to Ginnie in May, it was the week before Memorial Day, they had said they were booked solid for Memorial Day and its the biggest day of the year so the week before was fine.

We arrived late Saturday afternoon and I was extreamly overwhelemed by the amount of people checking in, they had ample staff but I still stood in line well over a half an hour. And seeing the amount of people checking in I knew I was in for a real shock compared to camping elsewhere in the state.

Finally we were on our own to find our spot, the map sucked and I just drove around in traffic for an incredible amount of time. People with tubes where everywhere, cars full, truck beds full of drunken college kids swarmed near the waters edge and along the trails, shouting and laughing and plain ole HAVING A GOOD TIME.

Finally we found an entire area where no one was around, I recall seeing some cows at this time.

We took our time and set up camp and it was getting later, we did hear the mob in the distance but I just turned on my own little radio and it drowned them out successfully.

Night one we didnt bother exploring, I dont like mobs or drunk fighting college kids and crying blondes who clearly should have stopped drinking at around, oh, 11am. We just stayed by the pasture and enjoyed the evening quietly together.

The next moring, Sunday, I woke up, made coffee and thought I should explore a bit and took a walk down a long trail, in which I hadnt been able to explore the night before, other than collecting kinling. I pass other campers like ourselves, way out of the way, quietly enjoying the morning sun. I get to the end of the trail and turn right at the sunken field of 100's of cypress knees and what do I find? A spring, the reason why I came here to begin with, on further investiation I find the Santa Fe River, 2 cleaned up and empty sites still with smoldering firepiet, DIRECTLY ON THE RIVER.

I booked it back to my site, packed it all up and set it all up again, spending Sunday & Monday nights on the river. Yes a few shouts and screams in the distance but it was perfact! Beautiful, every spring was awesome and breath taking. I kayaked, I rafted, I snokled my face off, I drank too, and hooted and hollered a bit myself, but no one was around to bother, it turned out to be absoulutly wonderful trip. Minus the Saturday croud.

  • Liked — After reading reviews before going my expectaions were low, but I really had a wonderful time.
  • Disliked — Litter in the river and that one girl who screamed ever 2 minutes all day and night off in the distance, uh, she was really a peice of work.

I have stayed at and visited Ginnie Springs several times over the past three years. I am a diver and was told this was a world class dive location? It may have been just that back when it was developed in 1976, but since that time it has changed quite a bit. I would not recommend this place to anyone with children of ANY age unless you want them subjected to extreme pornographic behavior , drug use and alcohol abuse by young (teenagers) and older adults as well. What once was a great resort for divers has turned into a haven for drunks and rednecks. I drift dive the Santa Fe river while at the springs and I cannot believe that amount of trash that is littering the river bottom. Literally thousands of beer cans and bottles piled everywhere thrown in the river by the rednecks tubing. I have personally watched this and have actually yelled at some of them. When I told the management about it, they said that is typical at the park. I think the state of Florida should step in and take charge of this park by either fining the owners for the outrageous amount of trash on the river bottom and make them clean it up, or ban drinking at the park altogether. Maybe then this place would once again be what it was intended for, a world class dive site!

  • Liked — being underwater away from the drunks and rednecks!
  • Disliked — not enough toilet paper in bathhouse!

My husband and I camped this past weekend at Ginnie Springs and we agree with all of the past reviews....this campgound has the potential to be an absolutely wonderful outing, but the peace and quiet you expect when camping is constantly interrupted by loud music and partiers. We camped away from the river in the section they refer to as the "Outback" and the noise from partiers on the river was heard all of Friday night into the early morning hours. We hardly slept at all. The same is true for the tubing - the earlier in the morning you go out the better. If you can tube before 10am you'll have a nice float, but from 10am on the drinking and tubing begins. You'll be surrounded by hundreds of college age and redneck drinkers who are loud and often vulgar. I would not recommend it for little kids. Adults who are willing to overlook the noise factor can still have a great time here and the good news is that by Saturday night I guess everyone had passed out from the alcohol because Saturday night was the quieter evening. The tent campsites away from the river are large, wooded and secluded; most have water spigots close by. Don't camp on the river unless you want to be part of the communal party. The litter on the river is very prevalent. We tried to pick up stray beer cans when we could, and we hope other conscientious campers will do the same. We would recommend camping here just as long as you know what you're in for. Perhaps the weekdays are quieter....

  • Disliked — noise, partying, noise

I was very surprised when I read some of the reviews on Ginnie Springs. My boyfriend and couple of friends and I went to Ginnie Springs for some camping and diving in February 2008. We had a great time and didn't hear anything except crickets all night! We went to bed in our tent about 10:00pm and didn't hear anything until about 7:30am. (Screaming kids woke us up, not drinkers) We were there on a weekend and stayed across from the bathrooms by the "cabins". We had a great time and are going back this weekend! Maybe the negative reviews are for staying in the back of the park by the river? We did see some partiers there!

I took my 12 year old son to Ginnie Springs for a first time camping trip. We chose GS because the Santa Fe river and the springs are beautiful. We went inner tubing late morning.

There were several individuals who were extremely loud, cursing, and yelling out inappropriate remarks. I noticed several beer cans strewn along the banks. At first I thought this behavior was limited to a few groups, and I could ignore it. However, by midday, beer cans literally littered the river . The park and river were filled with people exhibiting drunk behavior. As a parent, I no longer felt it was responsible to continue inner tubing , so
we stuck close to the springs and divers.
By late afternoon, drunk behavior was truly overwhelming. There was staff standing around but I did not see any oversight. Perhaps the park should allow kegs and paper cups. At least they are bio-degradable!

As we were leaving a staff member asked about our trip.
I said that given the environment, maybe it would be better if we camped during the week. She said, " This is the way it is pretty much all summer."

As much as I would want to enjoy GS, I would not return under the present circumstances. The environment is a haven for drunks, not a place I wish to expose my child.
