Hollywood Sands Resort

How can anything be bad when you are in a clean, well kept room overlooking the ocean, the boardwalk and the pool? The desk staff is helpful, the facility is well maintained and the distance from room to pool or room to ocean is but a few steps! The other folks who are at the Sands are annual travelers as well which makes it almost like a family reunion. Down the boardwalk within walking distance are shops, Ben and Jerry's, restaurants, bike rentals, parasailing....a week is not enough time.

Room Tip: the East building is right on the boardwalk just steps to the ocean and pool.

I loved my stay at this resort. It is right on the ocean Broadwalk-walk out past the pool and you are on the Broadwalk. Take a few more steps and you are on the ocean. Staff was very helpful and friendly; especially Fabio. Our unit (room 7) had one bedroom with a huge comfortable bed. I opened my window at night to smell and hear the ocean. The living room had a Murphy bed. A breakfast bar separated the living room and the kitchen. The kitchen was well stocked. The unit was air conditioned. Some units are smaller than others so ask about unit size and location before when you book. You should definitely bring or rent a bike for your stay. Rollerblades would work well too. Go two doors down to the Riptide for $2.00 happy hour beers and live music from 1-9.

Room Tip: Unit 8 faces the ocean. Units 10-15 are in a great location on the second floor with a shared balco...

We searched for many many hours to find the right place in Hollywood, on the Broadwalk in particular, and we did well! The Hollywood Sands is great~ we stayed there for a week. Great lcoation- ON the beach! Near everything...beautiful beach- wide and long. We walked 5-6 miles a day, whether on the beach or on the Broadwalk. Close to Fort Lauderdale and pretty close to Miami too.
We initially rented a studio in the back, but the air conditioners or something was just too loud for us, so we were able to stay in the front building, pool side for about $100. more a week. It was a 1 bedroom, with full kitchen and living room. Right by the pool and the grill and on the beach. Doesn't get much better than that. Nice people staying there and running it- very helpful.
We also rented bikes one day - pretty cool- The shopping was fun for swim wear and beach coverups. About a 5-10 minute drive to Publix for groceries. We ate out a few times. Once at Dania Beach at the Pier, very good sushi! And a couple times at Bistro Bon Marche, about a 5 minute walk from our apartment. We also went to GG's Stone Crab house, which was delicious and a great happy hour! We aren't used to "happy hour" , so it was very pleasant indeed! Martinis for $6.50!! We also got the appetizer of Stone crab claws. They were good but I am so used to the crabs from the Northeast...but they really were good. and I really am picky!! Picky in the sense that when you go out to eat the food should be fantastic, not soso. (which happens to us at home, often!!)
the weather was good for the first part of the week and then was cloudy for the last 3-4 days which was a little sad because we needed to heat up for the rest of the winter...but we still had a lot of fun walking and shopping and eating and drinking and exploring.
Great place all in all!! We will return some day!

My wife and I (who live in Tasmania, Australia) visited this resort in November 2012. It has a great location - right on the Broadwalk and the the beach. It is one of the best locations we have stayed at, and would regularly revisit if it was closer to home.
We both enjoy walking so the Broadwalk was perfect - and there were enough things close by so that we didn't need to hire a car.
This is an observation rather than criticism - its not a resort like we would normally consider a resort. There wasn't a lot of facilities other than a small pool - but we quite happy to just do our walks and spend time by the water.
There are lots of good restaurants not too far away on the Broadwalk - and our favourite was Florios, which was about a 10 minute walk away. Just a great spot to sit, eat and watch the world go by. Also liked Le Tub - great burgers.
We went to Fort Lauderdale on the water taxi one day, which we enjoyed. It was quite a full day though, and we only got to spend a couple of hours there. But the journey itself was worth it, particularly coming back at sunset.
And we used the Trolly a couple of times - and enjoyed our visit to the Anne Kolb Centre.
We didn't have a lot of interaction with staff, but everyone seemed friendly, and happy to help.
The only real downside to the resort is the lack of a lift. We were on the 3rd floor, and reasonably fit - so taking the stairs each day wasn't an issue. But it was a bit awkward with our large suitcases.
But we really enjoyed our visit here - the location is perfect.

Room Tip: If you don't enjoy stairs, try and get a room on the first floor.

Front desk, housekeeping and maintenance staff are the best. They do all they can to make your stay happy and comfortable.
Location is fabulous, steps to the beach. The view is like being on a stationery cruise.

Every guest is treated Like they are "special". Would highly recommend if you are looking for the comforts of home on the beach.

The place is clean and sweet. The pool is small, the hot tub in the west building on the other side of the fence from the parking spaces. The people who work here are incredibly nice and really attentive; they want you to enjoy yourself and like the place. The couches could be updated. And I was amazed that we visited Florida and the unit is smaller than our Manhattan apartment.

The location is fantastic. We had lunch next door at the Marriott restaurant, and I made reservations at the hotel spa so that I could also use the gym, pool and hot tub there, if I would like.

They have clearly updated the bathroom recently, and it is just fine. The bedroom is so small that we have each bruised our legs on the bed post, but that may be just us. :)

I would not stay here again, but it was just fine for us for a few days.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that faces the ocean directly and is on the third floor, not the first or second and...
