My daughter and I had a wonderful stay! Everything we needed was there. We really enjoyed the bikes rides down the Boardwalk that we were able to access at anytime! The apartment was very, very comfortable for us and so very clean. My daughter was ready to just move in ! Everyone we encountered was so friendly and helpful! We will definitely be back! Thank you Steve for a wonderful, safe place for us to come and visit!

The Desoto Oceanview's rooms are perhaps the cleanest of any inn or hotel we've ever visited throughout the US and overseas. This is a non-smoking property that uses eco-friendly cleaners, toiletries and paper products. It's a great feeling to walk into a room on vacation, admire the cleanliness and not smell smoke or heavily fragranced cleaners. The toiletries are very good, though the facial tissues and toilet paper still need some improvement. Linens are colorful and clean.

One thing that needs to be mentioned is that, although the rooms are sparkling clean at your arrival, there's not maid service during your stay. Brooms and dustpans are in each room for you to use as needed to keep sand out of the rooms - really no big deal. Linens are changed twice a week, though there are extra towels in each room and others can be requested if you need them.

This older motel has been charmingly renovated and well maintained, with wonderful vintage decorations throughout the rooms. Steve, the owner, has an excellent eye for design and color and we appreciated his sense of style and fun. The gardens are attractive and relaxing, providing shade in the day and tiny lights at night. They needed some work when we were there, though Steve explained that the winter had been tough on some of the plants. There's a large bird habitat at one end of the property and the cages are covered each evening.

What impressed us in addition to the cleanliness and charm was that Steve has thought of everything you might need during your stay, including beach towels, beach chairs, bicycles and books to borrow. In the bathrooms, there are hooks behind the door and small cabinets to place your toiletry kits. The kitchens are well supplied with the basics, including wine glasses and colorful dish towels and cloth napkins.

The Hollywood area is a little run down, but there is still plenty to do there and in nearby Ft Lauderdale and the Everglades. We plan to return to the Desoto next year.

Room Tip: The efficiencies are fine for a very short stay for a single or couple, but go for a studio or large...

My wife located this diamond in the rough 7 years ago when we were looking for a place close to the beach but away from the traffic. Nicely wedged between Ft Lauderdale and Miami Beach, the DeSoto Inn offers that solitude without being isolated from the real world. Just a stones throw away from the beach, the DeSoto Inn provides the tranquility one wants when going on a vacation from a vacation. And if you tire of the beach, which I cannot see happening anytime soon, the garden area provides its own piece of paradise with its vibrant color of vegetation and nature's friends. You have a choice of bright & colorful rooms decorated with a trpoical feel. The gracious host goes out of his way to make sure you have everything you need without overstaying his welcome. And whether you stay a day, a week, a month or longer the relaxing atmosphere does not fade until you drive away toward the airport returning to the real world once again.

At this point in time, the DeSoto has 96% excellent or very good ratings. I have found out that it is not easy to write a review for the DeSoto without being repetitious.

Yes, it is an "oasis" and a "gem" of a place. This has already been said. You come out of your room and go 50 yards east, and you're at the beach (a nice clean beach). You turn west and go half a block and you're at the Intracostal Waterway, and there is maybe half a mile of boardwalks to watch pelicans diving, fisherman fishing, or as we were lucky enough to observe a couple of years ago, a manatee cow and her youngster feeding on mangrove leaves in the shallow water.

Yes, the hosts, Steve and Josias, go out of their way to make you feel welcome. You need anything? Just ask.

The grounds are set back from the street so that when you are sunning yourself in front of your room, you are surrounded by native FL vegetation, not street dust. It this doesn't relax you, I'm not sure what will.

What makes this place "excellent plus" are the people (very congenial and very helpful) that come to vacation there. Most of the people are "returnees." And, basically, that's the best kind of review any place can receive. We've stayed there during January/February of the past three years, and we're already booked to return in 2013!

We only stayed for a couple of nights and the experience was of such peace and relaxation. The owner is charming and helpful and we truly felt so relaxed and at home. The beach is on your doorstop and a lovely quiet one it is too. It is not for anyone expecting gloss and luxury just a peaceful quiet break-holiday by the sea. Would definately stay again if we visited the area, we loved it.

What a place to smell the flowers, hear the birds and just lay back and recharge your life force. This is by far the best place for beach bums (those that love the beach) to stay. Cook out on the Grill, walk the beach. This place is the only place that you are only a stranger for less than one minute. Steve and the rest of the staff are great. I will go back again and again and again! Great time!

Room Tip: There are no bad rooms!

My wife and I stayed at the Desoto over the Christmas holidays, and thoroughly enjoyed it. We were visiting family in the Ft. Lauderdale area and wanted to have a relaxing weekend together at the beach so we booked a night at the Desoto. From the first time we pulled into the parking lot, we were amazed. The Inn is unlike anything else in the area. It is literally steps to the beach, which in this area is a lot more private than further down at the Broadwalk. Steve, the owner is wonderful and helpful, and gave us tips on some good places to eat and visit. The Inn has bikes you can use and the Hollywood Broadwalk is about one mile down the beach, with all the restaurants, bars, and shops you'll need. The rooms at the Desoto were very clean and nice and had everything you need, but our favorite aspect was the gardens. They are very well designed and eclectic with two large gazebos with sitting areas surrounded by beautiful gardens. Super laid back and relaxing for morning coffee, drinks, etc. I strongly recommend the Desoto. Trust me, you wont
't be disappointed. It was amazing and my wife and I will definitely stay again. Thanks Steve!
