Old Florida Charm....not the "Ritz"...but clean and wonderful location. My family had reunion and truly enjoyed the motel....enjoyed the views from the front porch rocker and the music from the "Hut"....service, food and closness to everything we needed. We rented a boat for the day and went up to the springs........great time! Couple of very affordable choices for dining...the restaurant near Mac Raes was very good...price and quality of food......best omlett I have ever had. Beds were a little old and not so comfie. The music from the Hut got a little loud toward the end of the evening......so bring ear plugs.......will go back. Room was clean and no bugs......(for Florida that's pretty good)

Clean, comfortable, and reasonable; friendly service. Liked it so well we stayed an extra night. Lots of interesting things to do in the area; good things to eat all around. Take an airboat ride with Capt. Russ right from MacRaes' dock: he's friendly, and a wealth of knowledge. Eat breakfast at the Patriotic Place on the main road in: $2.22 for the breakfast special. Have a Cuban sandwich and Cuban coffee for lunch at Jim's print museum. The world's best and most reasonable shrimp and stone crab legs are at the Freezer, on the waterfront (cash only): ask for directions. Don't miss the Homosassa Spring manatee and wildlife preserve: it's fascinating and beautifully run. We're going back!

Tough to get a room on the weekends during scallop season (July-early Sept) but the lull between September and October give any couple or small family a Florida Friendly on the water experience. Heavily used by fisherman, but also has a Harley following on the weekends at the bar THE SHED located on the water on the property. Run by owners Pamela and Gator MacRae and front desk staff Wendy, this quirky Florida get away certainly is better than "always the same" chain hotels. Fall and Winter this place is quiet during midweek and the coolest thing is you can rent a boat, a kayak, go on a boat tour, airboat ride, manatee watching experience all steps away from this fishing lodge/motel. This is just the kind of place that you look for, but can't find on the internet because it's a mom and pop hotel. It's a must do for those looking for something "just a little different" on your Florida vacation.

We visited MacRae's for a couple of days whilst on our last trip to U.S.A. We always try to visit somewhere different each time, as we prefer not to stay in the tourist areas for too long, but to get away and see the REAL America.. We have to say it was a very pleasent experience from the time we checked in to the time we checked out. We only wish we had scheduled to stay a bit longer. Yes the rooms are basic but clean and our only issue would be there was no fridge or phone in the room, but hey, thats a very minor detail given the surroundings and great staff. The people were very friendly and a real bunch of characters. Being bikers, it was really good to see real bikers riding in on their Harleys etc to enjoy a quiet drink at the tiki bar and happy to chat to any one showing an interest in their bikes. We were told about a place just up the road called the Freezer which served the most fantastic shrimp and overlooked the river, naturally we went along to try for ourselves. It was nothing much to look at from the outside but was really buzzing with life inside. And YES the shrimp was fab.
The first evening of our stay was a tues, which was catfish dinner followed by Karaoke with Jammin' Jimmy. It was really entertaining and a bit educational as there were a few quiz questions thrown into the evening as well. All good fun. If you like a beer or two then wednesdays would be good for you. 16oz draft buds all day for just $1 each from the tiki bar, how good can it get? We met four canadian bikers who were really great guys and they invited us to their BBQ and we again had a great time. We are hoping to stay in contact with the guys and meet up again at a later date. Thanks to all at MacRaes and their friendly guests for making us so welcome and comfortable. We will definately be back..
BE SURE TO TAKE BUG REPELLENT.

My family and my dad reserved two rooms for a one night stay while we did the manatee tour in Homosassa with Air Tank Divers.

There are not a whole lot of options in the area to stay while going on the tours so we chose this based on reviews on Trip Advisor.

The prices were resonable for our needs and the room was clean but the bathrooms were pretty small. We were in a standard room with two beds and tried to stay in the larger two bedroom room they had but they had a two night minimum stay so it was a little tight for four people in one room.

The grounds are nice and right next to the river and the famous Monkey Bar is within walking distance. The kids enjoyed walking around the area and chasing lizards (anoles?) while we were there.

For the amount of time we were staying and the price of the room it is a reasonable choice for a family but do not expect anything fancy as this is a modest motel to meet your needs for a night or two but that is exactly what we needed.

A great motel, tike bar, fishing camp and bait store all rolled into one delightful place. Bring your boat, a public ramp is just next door, or rent one from MacRae's. The most plesant spot, however is just sitting at the tiki bar (The Shed) socializing and simply watching the world go by. From the bar you can sometimes spot tarpon, manatees and dolphins swimming by. A great selecton of bar snacks and food and a delightful staff. If you're there on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, ask Trudy to personally cook your food as this is one of her areas of expertise and something she really enjoys. It'll make your day and hers.
