We have not stayed at the campground yet, but we have rented canoes a couple of times at Chassahowitzka River Campground and canoed on the Chass. River. The Seven Sisters springs are beautiful and not very far from the dock. It will make you thirsty to look at the water. The first time we went, there were lots of manatees near the dock and a family of manatees in one of the cove areas (This small group tends to stay in these waters year-round). The second time we went we saw the family of manatees but there were not the abundance of manatees we saw the first time. If you are in Florida for any length of time, try to get out on the water in an unobtrusive way (preferably by paddling, not motoring) and see manatees. Most are scarred from encounters with boats, and manatees are endangered. It is a good reminder of how careful we need to be in terms of our human impact on nature. From Chass. River Campground there is a reasonable stretch of river that can be easily paddled, as well as a cove area that goes back to "The Crack," a deep spring.
