Was with another couple for dinner. Service was good but food was mediocre. May be this place is for people who want ot have a drink and some food.

We had dinner here on a Thursday night in July. The place is huge, with inside and outside. There are large bar areas in both areas. The enormous size of City Tropics is one of its problems. When a place so big is less than a quarter-filled, as it was when we visited, it feels kinda dead. It's designed to be a big bar scene, but you can practically hear the crickets when you walk in.

The menu is also big, suggesting a lack of focus. Is it a place to go for sushi? burgers? pizza? sandwiches? seafood? Italian food? steak? It wants to be all things for all people and consequently, the food, while ambitious, is just okay. My tuna club is representative of what happens when you take sushi-grade tuna and try to transform it into a bar-styles sandwich with bacon and lettuce. It was just a weird combination. My companion's crab cake sandwich was bready and flat tasting.

Our server was as nice as can be, but how did they manage to run out of iced-tea on a slow night?

Had business lunch yesterday and it was outstanding. Menu is full of healthy and delicious options, depending upon your need. The server Christina not only helped us in selection but also she was always attentive to our needs without interrupting the business meeting.

My husband and I went to City Tropics for dinner on the fourth of July. Upon arrival, there was no host at the host stand. We waited for about a minute and finally the young lady who was standing in the corner came over and put her "hostess face" on. Very weird. She told us it would be about a 5 minute wait and took our name. My husband asked where the bar was, she told us and then he asked if she would come and get us when our table was ready. Pretty standard. She said "no, we don't do that - come back in five minutes to see if your table is ready." REALLY??!!! There are several things wrong with this. First, if we decided to stay and wait, the bar is out a drink sale. If we go to the bar and don't check back in time, we could lose our table. We said fine - and went to the bar. We decided we would just wait to see if she every came to get us - and if not, we would just eat at the bar. The first bartender greeted us without looking us in the eye - and was not friendly. He could have cared less if we walked into his bar or not. We each ordered a drink and water and asked for menus. He returned with our drinks - no water and no menus and quickly walked away. Fortunately, another server/bartender came over and asked if we needed anything. We told her what happened - no water and no menus. She was friendly and professional - got us menus and water right away. She was able to suggest some items on the menu and where it would be good to watch fireworks.

The food was really good. I had grouper with broccoli and rice. It was perfect. My husband ordered shrimp with mashed potatoes and broccoli and he also thought is was good (not great, good). The rest of the evening we had the friendly bartender and she made the visit a very positive one.

The owner/manager of this restaurant needs to train the employees on customer service. We will try it one more time with the hope that this review will make a difference with the way customers are treated.

The hostess never did come and get us....good thing we decided to eat at the bar.
