“Good 4th of July week on Amelia Island - 4 families”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2013

This was a great place for a family vacation. We rented multiple condos, 3 families were in Building A, which is closest to the Ritz in the complex, and the other family was in building B, a really nice 7th floor 2 bedroom. Overall we had A-127, A-126 and A-133, then B-something… All the condos were clean and more than adequate for our week on the beach. Some had a few more items like beach chairs than others and all were pretty well stocked. They were also very, very quiet. Whatever they use for soundproofing works great - even within the condos.

The location is great if you want to spend a lot of time on the beach. The walkway was convenient and the beach is excellent hard packed sand for walking. The two pools were not crowded, even on the holiday and we were always able to get a seat. We enjoyed boogie boarding and hunting for shark's teeth on the beach and used the grill by the parking lot more than once. Another great thing the condos had going for them was the wonderful Kaitlyn who worked with all of our families to get what we needed for all of us to have room and be close together.

There were a couple of "downers" while we were there. The people they hire to guard the gate do a really great job, especially on the holiday, but there is no reason for them to be nasty. We had an extra parking space at one of the condos and wanted to use it for a friend who was also visiting the family and we gave him the wrong condo number. You would think they were going to shoot him and his wife they were so mean to them. All they asked was for a minute to call and clear it up, once they were able to do that all was OK. The other was a "funny" jerk in our building who thought it was hilarious to pull the fire alarm multiple times. We didn't know it was a false alarm, the fire trucks came, when we called the office they didn't know. Well, those jerks (and yes, gee the office did find out it was someone staying there on the 6th floor - they should have been evicted) made my 72 year old handicapped mother cry. She had to slowly walk backwards down 5 flights of stairs while the alarm was blaring and was terrified. And, of course, had there been a real fire later that week, no-one would have evacuated after that so the people that were responsible should have been kicked out. I guess they didn't care and thought it was funny, but it was traumatic for our family and they should be ashamed of themselves.

Would we stay again? I would say we would although we probably won't get back that way for a while. Overall the stay was a good one with mishaps that were not really the properties fault (although they should change their policy on kicking out people who are evil and think fire alarms are there for their enjoyment).

Great property with most units in fairly good shape. Short walk to beach and nice poolside areas. Leasing office and receptionist are helpful but fairly rude and not as focused on customer service as you would expect from a place such as the Surf and Racquet club. Overall I would recommend this to friends but forewarn of the cold nature of the leasing office and hope that you don't have to interact with them outside of check in and check out.

This complex is in a great location and the property is well-maintained. We loved the walking trails and quiet, relaxing atmosphere.
Someone on TA had warned us to not rent directly from the AS&R Club, but this was a last-minute trip over July 4th and we struck out with vrbo and other sites. We called the rental office, rented a 1 BR, third floor condo, and sent in our 50% payment.
Well, lo & behold, just as the person on here warned us: there was a "computer error" and they switched us to a first floor unit. The unit was basic, quiet, but dated--and the kitchen was awful. Chipped plates, glasses with OJ pulp still on them, ONE knife--yuck. My kids had better stuff in their college apartments! No wonder no one had wanted to rent this one.

I would go back to Amelia Surf & Racquet, but only if I rented directly from an owner so that I knew what I was renting--and could bring my own knives! :)

Room Tip: Rent from an owner who has posted pix of the unit-Building B seems to be the best location, but none...

We have stayed here many times over the years; probably since the 80's, so we were not expecting a new shiny facility. We upgraded to a newly renovated room, nicely done for the most part.

Some of the details just get overlooked, I guess. The bed and bath linens had clearly seen many years of use, they were stained and a bit distasteful. Paint was a contemporary color but the outside door and the HVAC vents looked like they hadn't been cleaned or tended to since the building was opened. Grimy dust and a banged up and rusted entrance door don't leave the nicest first impression. Ditto the stainless steel in the kitchen and bath -permanently spotted after many years of use.

We stayed just after the holidays, during the football bowl game time of year, and I had specifically asked about 2 TVs in the unit, since I do not share my husband's enthusiasm for watching hours of the game. I was assured that the unit had 2 TVs. And it did. But the 2nd unit was for VCR use only, not TV. I asked twice that someone check on it and I was assured they would come by promptly to do so, and they never showed up. I was certainly left with the impression that staff clearly knew how the TVs were rigged.

For all the expense of the remodeling, the results were somewhat disappointing and the service lacking.

Room Tip: Really define what you want and get written confirmation.

Thanks for taking the time to review - and I'm sorry to hear about your issues. Can you let us know which unit you were staying in so that we can contact the owner to let them know to fix these problems? Each unit is different, and the owners are in charge of making sure their units are all appointed with suitable linens and furniture - but we do our best to make sure to encourage them to keep them fresh. We manage the properties with regard to cleaning, rentals and general care. I'll be sure to attend to these issues as soon as we know which unit you were in.

We stayed 3 nights in Unit B-159 at the Surf and Racquet Club. This is a great condo and one of the few with one bedroom. Our unit faced the ocean over the nice pool area and it had a nice balcony. The condo complex is in good condition and appears well maintained with constant attention to wear and tear. Unit B-159 could use some of that constant attention. It wasn't BAD but it needs a good thorough cleaning of the furniture. The carpet is also getting a little worn. It could be a luxury place with a few upgrades.

Room Tip: Make sure the room has been well cleaned

We've just returned from a week at the Surf & Racquet Club. I booked 3 - 2 bedroom condos, and 1-1 bedroom condo for our extended family of 17 traveling together. All four of our condos were very nice. Clean, nicely decorated, oceanfront, Kings in all the master bdrms, functional kitchens. All units had washers and dryers. All had GREAT private balconies to sit and enjoy the view of the beach. Two of our condos had 2 large balconies each. Location was perfect - easy to grab a chair and head down to the beach, 2 pools, and endless miles of bike trails available right from the front gate. There was a grocery within 2 miles and Fernandina -cute shops and restaurants was just 5 minutes away. Several of our group used the spa and golf amenities at the neighboring Plantation Resort. The Ritz is also right next door. The beach was AMAZING. Clean - wide open, sandy beaches. Even at spring break, it wasn't overly crowded. Just perfect for families - BRING YOUR BIKES! If you want commercial amenities or services - this isn't the location for you. (Try Amelia Island Plantation - drove around and it looked beautiful). If you like to just move in and settle down to a quiet place on the beach with lots of clean beach, shells and places for kids to run - this is perfect. The staff at the racquet club was VERY helpful both in booking and serving our needs while there. All 17 left happy and would gladly return again.

Room Tip: Two of our condos were "upgraded" - which essentially meant better decor, higher end finis...

My wife and I found the resort on the internet and loved what we saw on the website. We made reservations for a 4 day weekend at the beginning of this October. The resort far exceeded our expectations. Our condo was direct oceanfront and the views were spectacular. We enjoyed the two pools, the free tennis and the free fitness center. The grounds were immaculate and the staff of Florida Properties was very professional. The restaurants the staff recommended were exceptional. Our stay was the most romantic weekend we have experienced in a long time. We could not recommend a nicer place to getaway and be right on the beautiful Atlantic Ocean.

Room Tip: The best floors to stay on in the three 7 story building are the 2nd, 3rd and 4th. On those floors...
