“4 day stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 March 2009

Ok so as expected there are some good and some bad:
Good: Rooms with a view, but as mentioned earlier alot of bay view rooms are blocked so ask for an unobstructed view if you want a real water view. Stick with levels 3 and 4 in the sugar loaf building - Room 403 is probably the best room in the place but it is also the pricey penthouse--rooms 301, 302 and 401, 402 are unobstructed water views--it's a great way to wake up in the am
Good: Breezers - 1/2 off happy hour for both drinks and apps, great place to unwind and prep for dinner
Good: Gus's Grille- limited menu but still fine dining, ask for winsome, she makes her own drinks and makes an incredible Bahama mama.
Good: Watersports "it's a dive" - this place is one stop shopping, from the docks you can jetski, para sail, boat ride, scuba /snorkel tours--we took out the jetski on multiple days, this may have been the funnest part of the trip
Good: the location is great for pennekamp park
--now for the bad
Bad: Room Temp - yes your in the keys its going to be hot but the ac was basically ineffective, it never once got below 75 degrees in the room, we are from Florida so we adjusted but i can picture non-southerners being very uncomfortable
Bad: Comfort of the bed - this was the primary reason why we left early - pillows and bed were uncomfortable and we had trouble sleeping
Bad: Parking is limited close to the elevator, try to go during slower periods

Stayed here as a stop over from Key West to Miami. Hotel is in a nice position and even though on highway1 the rooms were very quiet. The pool is very nice and beach is small but clean . Bar staff very helpful and keep you topped up with drinks. Room very clean and a good size with 2 very comfortable beds. Dinner was great at Gus's. Service very good and food was excellent. Breakfast is very good value and has loads of choices. Take advantage of happy hour and watch the beautiful sunset. Staff very friendly and helpful and would stay there again.

Yes, there are newer resorts, there are fancier resorts, but if your looking for a place to just sit back, relax and escape the cold- this is your place.
My wife and I just returned from a 4 night get away at the Marriott Key Largo Bay Beach Resort and had a fantastic time.
The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. Tytichia at the front desk switched us to an awesome room that had both a bay view and an unobstructed view of the setting sun. Jean our waiter at Gus' Grill had an easy smile, hardy laugh and made sure our dinners were perfect with is "off the menu" suggestions. Terrence and Eric did a great job of making sure our glasses were full while sitting poolside.
Marriott is currently running several specials on this location. We originally booked a bay view king bed room for $351/night, but paid only $199/night after calling back Marriott and taking advantage of the promotions. The resort was only about half filled during our stay and we were able to upgrade to a better room once we were there.
The food at Gus' Grille was excellent and all food at the resort is cooked in Gus's kitchen. We did venture out a couple of nights and eat at other area restaurants (The Conch House and Sundowners), but we found the food and service superior at Gus' Grille. Entrees at Gus' Grille range from $18 to $28.
The exercise equipment on our floor was all top notch Precor stuff with built-in TV's.
Rooms are equipped with flat screen TV's, Granite sinks, and tiled showers.
On the downside, the man made beach is small not really made for swimming.
The resort is quite old, but kept very clean and well maintained.
A stay here will quickly melt the stress away and put you on "Island Time".

We stayed at the Marriot Key Largo Resort mid February 2009 for 7 nights. It was fabulous. The staff was more than friendly, the location was great and the food at the resort was terrific! From one day to the next, you can sit abck and enjoy the hospitality and relaxing atmosphere. The pool was great, the beach was small, but OK. The room had a great view of the bay. By far the best resort in Key Largo.dont miss the spa

Stayed 3 nights at the Marriott and had a wonderful time. The rooms were large and very clean with lovely views of the pool and ocean. We stayed one night, then moved on to Key West and returned to the Marriott for two nights. On our return, we were upgraded to a two bedroom suite which was enormous. I cannot say enough about the staff. Everyone was extremely helpful in suggesting restaurants for Key Largo and Key West. A special shout out to Eric who single-handedly took care of all of the patrons at the pool and beach. He did a great job and was eager to please. I would definitely recommend this hotel for some R and R.

Stayed for two nights in January 2009. First, do not expect Marriott standards when you book this hotel. I can't believe anyone from corporate has been here. It is what you would expect from a really nice roadside motel. The rooms are well-furnished if average in size. You absolutely must get a bay view room - the other side of the hotel is on the highway. Enjoy the sunset on your balcony, but it will have to be over the restaurant building which is between the hotel and the bay.

The worst part of our hotel experience was the pool, which we had really been looking forward to based on the hotel website. The water was filthy. Every time we went there was at least one person smoking poolside, usually a few. There was so much chlorine in the hot tub that I had to get out after a few minutes because of the burning pain in my eyes. Don't expect anything more from the beach - it is man-made, the water is full of vegetation, and there were people smoking cigarettes and cigars there when we tried to go.

If you stay here, you can at least expect to be treated well - everyone from check-in, to house keeping, to the wait staff was extremely friendly and helpful.

We enjoyed our 6 night stay even though most people seem to use this resort as a stopover. We didn't want to drive all the way to Key West and we were totally satisfied with our decision.

The grounds are lovely, the views are beautiful, and the attitude is laid back. I requested an upgrade at check-in and they gave us what they described as not an water view but a better room. When we arrived at our roon - 407 - we overlooked the bay - it was really lovely. We appreciated the safe, the refrig, the high beds, the fine linens, the balcony, the 5 pillows on the beds, the large TV, the immediately effective AC, the pool and small white sand beach with comfortable lounge chairs, the complimentary internet and free parking, and the friendly staff. Also, the housekeeping staff was thorough.

I tried to book through priceline bidding at $135 but was unsuccessful so I decided to book through Marriott with the AAA rate and still get the Marriott points. Try that as the rate is still good and until April 30, Marriott is running a bonus of 2500 points after the second nights stay.

  • Liked — the ambience
  • Disliked — not getting a newspaper every day
