First I want to say that if you want fancy granite in your bathroom, and a huge pool with beach entry, go somewhere else. But, if you want personal service and an excellent private place to stay where the staff tends to your needs but they also stay out of your way, then this is where you want to stay. My husband and I went there for our 25th wedding anniversary and enjoyed every single quiet relaxing moment! The property and landscaping are exactly what Key Largo and The Keys are all about. The hammocks were a great place for an afternoon cat nap and the tiki out by the bay was a great place for lunch. We stayed in the Mango Room and loved how we could open the plantation shutters and have the tropical landscape fill our view while still having privacy. The room was decorated perfect and the furniture was very sturdy and just the right colors. The bathroom had plenty of hooks for our wet towels and bathing suits, something most resort forget you need! The intimate pool is perfectly chilled and not like bath water which was so refreshing. I really can't say enough about this place. It truly is a very special place and we hope to be back soon.

Room Tip: All of the rooms seem to have a very nice view.

The Kona Kai is one of the best places I have stayed in not only the US but in the world! Being an avid traveler and having lived abroad, this resort ranks as one of the top resorts I have ever had the pleasure of staying at. Before we even arrived, my husband called to inquire about reservations/hotel amenities. He spoke to a lovely women named Denise. When we arrived, we met her in person and she was even more enchanting in person. She gave us wonderful suggestions in the Key Largo area as well as the entire Florida Keys for our drive down to Key West. All suggestions/stop offs were fantastic! She went above and beyond what people do in the Hospitality industry and we will be returning again soon alone/with our families! The Kona Kai resort is wonderfully peaceful. To its secluded atmosphere of tropical plants/trees/wildlife to its freshwater pool and adjacent perfect temperature jacuzzi to a picture perfect room-equipped with H2o bath products. It became our "home away from home." We actually returned back sooner than expected after a one nighter in the Key West area(having had vacated our Key West Hotel a day earlier as it was dirty and noisy). Again, Denise managed to better our stay and we are forever grateful! ps-the sunsets are spectacular!!!!!

Room Tip: We stayed in 2 different rooms/suites and both were fabulous!!! There are I believe only 11 in all a...

If you are looking for a bonding/couple getaway; this is definitely the place to go. You feel like you are on your own island and disconnected from the everyday hectic life. It is very peaceful, quiet and relaxing. The property and view is spectacular. You can Kayak, sunbathe on the comfortable lounge chairs, or just relax on the hammocks. The dining suggestions are close and very good. We stayed in the OceanFront room (BreadFruit) and woke up to an amazing and peaceful view of the bay. You can also watch the sunset from the comfort of your room. The room was very spacious and clean. This was our first time staying and we will definitely be back.

Room Tip: If you want to wake up and have your coffee looking at a beautiful Sunrise, or watch the Sunset havi...

If you want the best, then Kona Kai is the place to go. I have been going there since they first opened, and just when you think it can't get better it does. The atmosphere, the decor, the staff, you can't beat it.

My second stay at this fantasic secluded getaway in the keys. As we were celebrating our honeymoon they upgraded us to the waterfront suite at no charge. The rooms are clean and nicely decorated.
The front staff are helpful with tips about activities, we higly recomend the eco wildlife tour. The guide was very knowlegeble and it was interessting to know more about the eco life in the keys, turning back to Kona kai we saw wild dolphines! Around the resort docks, there were two manatees during the days. The food is great around. Can not say more than we highly recomend couples who want a relaxing getway to stay here! /Johan & Charlotte, Sweden

This was our 2nd time staying here. We have no complaints. They are always accommodating, prompt, polite and courteous.

Everything is very clean, the grounds are well kept and maintained, the view is beautiful and there is NO KIDS!

The view of the sunsets our perfect and we snorkel right out back in the bay.

It is a little pricey but you get what you pay for. We have stayed out other places in the Keys that were horrible. The lesson we learned is its better to pay more and be happy than save a few dollars and have a miserable vacation.

We enjoyed our stay. We will be back and bottom line is, we would recommend it to our family and friends.

I have been dying to write this review since I was staying at the Kona Kai! That's how amazing it is!

We were in Key Largo June 25th-July 2nd on our annual vacation and for my boyfriend's technical dive certification trip. We were originally supposed to spend the week in another well known hotel but our stay at the other hotel quickly became a nightmare. While out for lunch our first full day, we drove by and saw the Kona Kai sign. I checked the website, called the number and had a friendly greeting from Tracey. I told her about our nightmare and she quickly informed me they had one suite remaining, the Lychee suite. We quickly checked out of the other hotel and drove back to the Kona Kai!

The beautiful brick driveway lined with tropical plants was enough to let me know that we had reached perfection. Tracey greeted us in the office/gallery and was so friendly and welcoming. She made us quickly feel at ease which took away all the tension we were carrying from the stress of the previous location. She showed us the amazing grounds with even more gorgeous tropical plants, beautiful pool/hot tub area and quiet, serene beach as well as the lockers where my boyfriend could stash his dive gear and we could pick up equipment for kayaking.

When we got to the Lychee suite, it was hard to contain the excitement. The suite was the perfect size for the two of us with a cozy sitting area with a TV, CD player, books to borrow and adorable knick-knacks on the shelves that made it feel like a home. The fully-stocked kitchen area had an electric stove/oven, microwave, full refrigerator and coffee pot. Perfect for the early morning breakfasts needed before a day of diving (or in my case, lounging in the sun!). The very comfortable queen bed was in the next room with a gorgeously hand-painted cabinet. The bathroom was fully stocked with everything we could have possibly needed. Spa brand soaps and even a little container of cotton balls and q-tips. There was even a private patio off the back of the suite complete with BBQ!

Spending the days relaxing on the grounds was such a pleasure. The bottles of water in the fridge and chilled fresh fruit by the pool was much needed in the hot Florida sun. They even grow their own fruit on the grounds and will put it in the fridge with a note on what it was, it's country of origin and what it's similar to. They had a fresh batch of Peanut Butter Fruit (Yes it tastes like peanut butter!) and Pummelo that were so delicious! The pool was the most refreshing temperature and the hammocks and lounge chairs on the beach were great places to relax and get lost in a good book. Also an amazing place to watch the beautiful sunsets

If you're looking for peace, tranquility, beauty, and the friendliest staff you will ever meet, this is the place for you. The Kona Kai is perfection. We can't wait to return!

Room Tip: The Lychee suite is worth every penny!
