“clean, awesome beach area, near fun activities”
Reviewed 28 June 2013

My husband and I stayed here a few days this week. We enjoyed our stay very much. We stayed in the cottage called, Deep 6 ... it is not a huge cottage ... but it was clean, no bugs (probably due to the 4"- 6" lizards hanging out outside, wink) has cold A/C, it's near the beach ...and I loved having the bird cage right outside ... enjoyed waking up to the sound of the birds (only 3 or 4 of them) each morning. The front desk staff was VERY nice and helpful, though we never needed them after check in because everything was perfect. This is a true Key Largo style Resort ... close to shopping, food and fun activities. However, if you are wanting Egyptian cotton and room service, I suggest you go to the Hilton, etc.

There is something just so accommodating, and so distinctively fun about this place that I wish I'd discovered it a long time ago. It's a great place to go with a group - there are small and large cabins, outdoor barbecue grills, large figures of dinosaurs and bears, tiki huts, a nice doc, lovely beachfront, kayaks for use at no charge, a large cage with canaries - it just breathes a kind of jolly readiness to be enjoyed. We stayed in the small "Deep 6 Cabin" - not far from the water. Everything is clean, and functional - Cable TV, shower, and Wifi all fine. We'd have been happy with a bit more variety to breakfast (coffee, juice, danishes). And there is maid service, but you need to request it. But these were minor matters. The desk will help with booking snorkeling, etc.. These people have the right idea for Key Largo.

Room Tip: Nice by the beach.

Like many, we stayed just two days on a trip up and down the Overseas Highway, We arrived without a reservation and were able to tour 5 different rooms that were open. We chose "Bayview" and could not have been happier!! Service at the front desk, Australian gentleman, was really wonderful, and excellent suggestion to have dinner right next door at Mrs Mac's Kitchen, true "road food" diner/fine dining, we loved Mrs. Mac's!!! The room was adorable, and was really super clean. I was astonished how clean, actually, as it's an older property. Even the white grout on the white tile was sparkling, and all was freshly painted. Tiny room, with view of the bay out the window. Small fridge and microwave, pocket door in the bathroom. Walk out the door and the view is beautiful! Next door is an outdoor bar/restaurant with nightly music from 6-9 and decent appetizers (fish dip was great) though for meals, head to Mrs. Mac's along Route 1 - a 1 minute walk. The front desk also gave us a coupon for a free Key Lime Freeze (shake). This place is not for everyone, of course, but, if you love funky and fun places, with beautiful views, and the ability to have a few cocktails within walking distances, this makes a great stop for a few days or for your drive down to Key West. There are several 'campers' on the property, that are nice and so fun -- one older airstream type, with two separate rooms - nice if you have kids. One of the rooms had a bit of a smoky smell, though that seemed like previous guests, and not necessarily the fault of the resort. Highly recommend if you love unique. I mean, bears, dinosaurs, giraffes, and more peeking at you from all around the property! You have to smile at that. Good choice in Key Largo for a really reasonable rate! Free pastries (packaged cheese danish) juice (Sunny D) and Coffee on the porch in the A.M. to get your started on your way. Mrs. Mac's also does breakfast, so nice location for restaurants within walking distance.

Room Tip: Some rooms are far back along the road, so if you have a preference, be sure you are aware of which...

Husband, myself and our 2 dogs (small) stayed 5 nights beginning May 25, 2013. We stayed in #7 with the king bed. The grounds are very accomodating for walking pets and also if you choose to bar-b-q. There was a grill outside of our room with a table and chairs. The next time that we stay we will go to the Key Largo fisheries which is close and plan to grill some fresh seafood. Our room was most comfortable and ocean front. The staff, Sara and Robin, were friendly and helpful. The room was very clean, thanks to Choochy, and we had maid service when we requested and plenty of towels. We arrived Memorial weekend and unfortunately the 2 large Tiki Huts were being held hostage. The groups left their belongings there so know one else could use them. I did recommend to Robin that they post signage in English and Spanish which lets guests know to remove belongings when they leave for the evening. This should also hold true for pop up tents since ocean front beach is limited. This did effect our trip and in talking with other guests theirs also and they just left for the day. Also, because of these groups the paddle boards were not available for part of our stay. I believe that some rules need to be posted. We were fortunate that #7 had 2 lounge chairs assigned to our unit so we had a place to sit. After the groups left the atmosphere was completely different so we will definitely go back and probably take the same room. I did notice that units 9 and 10 had french type doors which would be nice for units 7 and The Pelican since they are ocean front. Also several good restaurants within walking distance if you prefer not to drive while there.

Room Tip: If you don't care about ocean front any of the cottages are in nice areas. We always want a sep...

They call it Sunset Cove for a reason - people came in groups to get pictures of the sun going down and the bar/grill next door even blows a conch when it sets. We stayed in "Beach Cottage" April 12-15 and loved it - but its not for people who want to stay in their hotel room for their vacation. It is a little like camping - if you always "camp" in a cabin! This is a great place for outdoor people who love water, the whole place is very laid back. As for the "loud" music another reviewer complained about - we were actually a little disappointed that everything shuts down at 10-11pm, its definitely not a party spot. We are going back for our anniversary in June - looking forward to it!

Room Tip: Get a bayfront view!

My husband and I decided to stay here one night as we made our way up to Ft Lauderdale and unfortunatley we were very disappointed in our accomodations. I read the reviews online so was prepared that this was not a 5 star resort; however even a 2 star motel would have been better. Our cottage was old, dingy, musty(these things can be expected in Florida), but dirty and full of bugs shouldnt be an expectation for any hotel/motel. There was pubic hair in the bathroom and dried blood on the ceiling from prior travelers killing bugs. When my husband complained about this at check-out our offer was a discounted room 'next time' however there will not be a next time for us!!
