“Hidden Gem for a quiet getaway”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 November 2013

Arriving at the beautiful Tarpon Flats Inn at nighttime, my husband and I were already struck by its quiet beauty and still, peaceful charm. What initially struck me was the calmness of this tucked-away little piece of Key Largo. We spent a relaxing night, and in the morning, were greeted with a most spectacular sunrise over Largo Sound. Breathtaking!!

Though this inn does not serve breakfast, I would suggest biking over to the Hidden-Out, which is just around the corner. This is a local breakfast spot that would disappoint only the most high-maintenance customer. It is Old Keys perfection, take it from a woman who grew up in South Florida! Alternately, if you like to cook, head to Publix grocery store, and utilize the room's excellent kitchenette. We cooked a spectacular dinner, served dockside with a bottle of champagne. Now that is the life! The little beach provided us a perfect place to wind down, swaying in the hammock and enjoying the sounds of the natural surroundings.

It was wonderful to take out the kayaks and experience the Sound, where we spotted so many beautiful birds, fish, and porpoise. I have heard that manatee are frequent visitors in the lagoon behind the inn.

It is my opinion that this is how the Keys were meant to be experienced. If you want a big, luxury resort, well, this is not your place. There are plenty of bigger resorts to choose from. If you want a charming, small, quiet getaway where you will be left to enjoy the pristine beauty of the mangroves at your leisure, stay at Tarpon Flats! You will not be disappointed. Rose, the manager, is so warm and welcoming. I can't wait to go back to our hidden gem!

What an amazing place! We spent a night here and wished we had stayed longer. The room was a self contained apartment! The location could not have been better. It had its own private beach area overlooking largo sounds where we saw dolphins and manatees. Kayaks were available which we took out in the morning. Definitely one of the highlights of our trip.

My wife and I were looking to do some kayaking in the Key Largo area. It was our desire to find a place that had access to the water so we could launch directly from our hotel. My wife found Tarpon Flats on TripAdvisor and we decided to give it a look, not sure if we were going to stay or not.

When we arrived, the office was closed but there was a sign on the door that gave a phone number. The phone was immediately answered and in just a couple of minutes later, Rose showed up.

Rose proved to be both extremely friendly and helpful. She showed us around, not only the room, but the property as well. This facility has an awesome point sticking out on the water with plenty of lawn furniture. It is a great place to sit, relax and watch the water.

Bottom line is that it was an easy decision to stay. The place was extremely clean and comfortable. The kitchen was nicely supplied. The air conditioner worked fine. The WiFi was rock solid and the cable TV had about a million channels. We didn't swim in the pool, but it appeared to be very clean.

Between Rose's hospitality and the facility itself, this was an awesome stop. We will definitely return when we are in the area.

We just got home from a delightful 2 night stay. The room was very nicely appointed. It had everything you needed. The view from the second floor was wonderful to wake up to. We enjoyed a glorious sunrise on the hammock by the ocean. We then went to a kayak ride before heading to breakfast on the bikes provided. It truly was a great weekend at a reasonable rate. The keeper, Gilda, was an exceptionally friendly and most helpful.
We are torn between sharing this place or keeping it to ourselves! We will most definitely be back!

We stayed as a family - 2 adults, 2 children. On the second day our son had to be rushed to Miami for emergency surgery. Amidst the stress and disruption of this, the woman looking after the office (Rose), and the local characters (major -?, who lives in one of the boats) were so kind and supportive. I want to send them a big 'thank you'. If you like luxury and a lot of formal attention from staff this is not the place for you - yes, it's a little bit unpolished, but it has a nice, mellow, laid back, slightly bohemian vibe with a few friendly, knowledgeable local characters who are clearly part of the keys. It's a great location for watching the moon come up over Largo Sound and for exploring the local area.

If you need a break from reality and some relaxation this is the place. It was very clean and everyone was very welcoming. My boyfriend and I really enjoyed being able to cook our own food on the grill and have friends come over and enjoy the great little beach point and kayaks. Can't wait to go back!

My family and I stayed upstairs. We picked this place based on the having a kitchen because we have two small children and we had brought food and groceries with us. We were surprised to learn that we had access to kayaks (we all loved) and bikes. The staff was very helpful and the location was great.
