“Exceeded our expectations”
Reviewed 7 July 2012 via mobile

7/3-5. Didn't know what to expect but we were pleasantly surprised. Up to date furnishings and very clean and mostly nice staff. Felt like a bed and breakfast and the continental breakfast was bigger than expected and had red, white, blue parfait for the 4th. Situated on a small inlet with Snappers bar and restaurant next store. Wave runner rental next door as well with lower rates than the vendor at Wahoos on Islamorada. Would recommend - a nice little 5 star getaway.

We stayed there on 7/3 unfortunately only for a night but it was very nice. We had a room facing the ocean, the moon was full and the balcony was very enjoyable. The room was very nice, king bed, I paid about 200 for the night, a little over priced since they advertise breakfast and that was very overstated. It was just danish coffee, cereal, bagels... we ended up going out for breakfast. the pool was nice and we had it to ourselves. It closes at 10 but you could have gone back in later as long as you are quiet. They have grills for cooking out, free kayaks, very pretty grounds. It was a great evening, very romantic looking at the water and the moon. They cannot guarantee the moon but if it full its an added bonus. We will go back but will ask for a better price, even if we have to pay 200 again I would do it.

Room Tip: all the rooms can see the water but get one with a balcony or you will regret it. It was worth the e...

Well after months of researching, we finally decided to stay at Dove Creek Lodge, and we are sooo GLAD we did. What makes it personal, is that it is a small lodge so the wonderful staff, was able to help with anything we needed. The rooms are very beautiful and CLEAN, staff very friendly, and property was very beautiful and clean, pool area, hot tub, pool table, hammocks and a dock. Oh yes and the Kayaks and Jet ski rentals.

We had a room with small balcony but enough for us to enjoy the veiw, and look over at Snappers for entertainment and music from our balcony. When you see a free continental breakfast you think, oh cereals or something like that... NOT here, WOW we had bagels, toast, eng muffins, coffee, tea, juice, fruit skewers, meat skewers, this DELICIOUS key lime and berry parfaits, it was so GOOD! We will definately come back here. Strongly recommend.

This is an excellnt hotel with attentive staff and lovely rooms. It is by far the cheapest place we're staying at on our tour of SoFlo - and by far the best to date. I echo all the other comments here re. breakfast, staff and amenities. The lovely Snappers restaurant and the Turtle Club bar with live music every night are both a few yards away. Matt on the front desk was most helpful with baggage and even acted surprised when I tipped him - he's an excellent actor! I'd stay here again without question.

When a hotel says "free continental breakfast" you think basic muffins, coffee and cereal. Not this place! There were skewers of fresh fruit, skewers of meats and cheeses, soft breads (English muffins, etc) to toast, Key lime parfait (no kidding!), hard boiled eggs, and more. The breakfast area had a large balcony overlooking the water.

The only suggestion I'd make is to ask for a room with a non-screened in balcony. We got a room with a water view but they just screen in part of the walkway as your "balcony". So, if we sat outside, we were sitting in sort of a screened in cage. It just felt awkward. Great for keeping bugs away although the ocean breeze seemed to do that anyway.

Otherwise, the room was very nice and clearly updated.

The on-site activities guy was very nice. They have their own jet ski rentals. The kayaks were free. Definitely do the stand up paddle boards. I had never done it before and only fell once (onto the paddleboard, not the water). Heed the advice they give you...don't keep leaning over to watch something in the water as you paddle by - klunk!

Great location on the Atlantic ocean. No beach, but outside of Key West, mangroves rules the shoreline. Complimentary kayak usage was a plus. Nice billards table under the Key Lime suite and by the pool/jacuzzi was a nice pastime. And with only 19 units, never crowded. Breakfasts, also complimentary, were perfect. Everything was in good to excellent condition. Structurally sound to withstand a major hurricane...but blocks out cell phone signals, so you'll have to stand outside to talk on your mobile phone. I grilled twice on their gas BBQ.

The hotel is adjacent to Snapper's restaurant and bar. We enjoyed live music nightly right from our suite.

Exploring the Dove Creek mangrove lined passages on kayak was a fun, particularly since their were small craft warnings out the full week I visited the islands.

Favorite part of the hotel were the very helpful front desk staff, full of ideas of where to go to explore the Keys. They turned me on to the Noname Key Kayak Adventure outfit that allowed to paddle around Noname Key (in the Big Pine Key area).

Diving/snorkeling off of Key Largo was a bit disappointing after spending time in the south Pacific and Australia. Better snorkeling off Bahia Honda Key to the south.

Room Tip: Splurge and go for the Key Lime Suite. Full kitchen, screened porch overlooking Atlantic, covered pa...
