“Decent hotel, but doesn't deserve five star rating”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 March 2010

Based on the Tripadvisor ratings, we had high expectations coming here, and we were certainly disappointed. Our room was clean and the decor was fine, but the heater (which we needed to use overnight) was loud and so was the fridge. The bed groaned horribly every time we sat or turned heavily on it. The screened porch was nice in theory, but was basically a big empty room with a couple of chairs in it. The continental breakfast consisted of individual-sized cereals and biscuits and muffins that seemed to have come straight from the Winn-Dixie down the road.

The best thing by far about this hotel is its beachfront - for a small place, it has a pretty sizeable beachfront facing the sunset with plenty of lounge chairs and hammocks to relax. Also, it is quiet. Other than that, there isn't much to say for it. Glancing at the hotels we passed along Route 1 while we were in the Keys, this is perhaps a better hotel than the average Keys place, but it is not in the same class as a five-star or even four-star hotel in any other city.

I was very impressed with the Coconut Palm Inn. As students looking for a relaxing place for spring break after several loud days in Key West, this hotel in Key Largo was perfect. The room I had was in great condition, with a large bed, day bed, kitchenette, well-finished bathroom, nice furniture, flat-panel TV with DVD, and a large screened porch. We had a view of the water from our door. The only drawback we experienced was that the wireless internet wasn't the fastest out there.

The staff was very kind and able to answer any questions we had. They recommended some wonderful local restaurants upon our arrival. The Inn's true strength is the grounds by the bay. There are many hammocks, chairs and other places to enjoy the sun or relax in the shade of the palm trees. There is a pool with deck chairs and a covered sitting area. It's definitely a nice piece of paradise, and the price was hard to beat.

Spent six days at the Coconut Palm Inn with my husband. Kathy, Trish and Dana in the office are all very, helpful, genuinely wonderful people. We had a one bedroom suite on the upper floor. It was very clean and I saw no bugs whatsoever, and there was plenty of water pressure. My only complaint about the room was that the pillows were so hard and flat, I woke up with a headache every morning. The breakfast in the morning is nothing special. Muffins, scones, those little boxes of cereal, juice and coffee. There's plenty of places to eat breakfast if you want something more substantial. If you are looking for simply peace and quiet, this is the place. If you need a little more to occupy your time, you should look towards Key West. There is a fire pit on the beach but there is no where to get firewood. My husband and I thought that if they had one or two nights a week with a fire and maybe a guitar player, that would be awesome. Maybe have some kind of happy hour out on the beach so guests could get to know each other.
There is a place called Chad's Deli about 1 mile north on the main highway. Good variety of food and reasonably priced. Also, Island Grill in Islamorada has the most fantastic food for lunch. Dinner menu is 'eh' but everything we had for lunch was excellent. Ate there four times. For a really nice dinner, go to mile marker 88. It's a restaurant called "88". A bit pricey, beautiful sunset dining outside and superb food.
All in all, Coconut Palm Inn was a cute, clean, quiet place. We probably wouldn't go back only because it was just too quiet and nothing to do around there but some people probably like that.

Hotel was a small, older cute place. A little hard to find off the main road but nice pool & beach area. Definitely not a big resort or a lot of people. More like a small motel. Owners friendly & couldn't be nicer. Continental breakfast was nice. Great screened in porch off each room with chairs & beach towels. The downside is the rooms are tiny & beds are small but comfortable. Fridge & microwave but old, tiny TV. Bathroom only had a shower & no tub. Not that modern but adequate. Good for an overnight, a few days or if you like this kind of nostalgic lodging. Call ahead if you're going to be late as office closes early but they waited up for us.

We decided to visit the Keys for a few days before a cruise out of Miami (an hours drive). The hotel is great. It is on a small quiet beach with a couple of piers. Chairs and hammocks on the beach are always available. The pool overlooks the sea. Good continental breakfast. This old historic hotel has been renovated and added on to. Our room was the best, with a large patio and a wrap around view of the water and garden from the inside. The staff made us feel right at home and I would love to go back. My husband made a great decision when he booked this. It was very romantic.

It was a quick trip to the Keys, leaving our 7 year old with his grandparents in Boca, and the best Valentine's Day we ever had. Cocktails at Snappers in Key Largo, dinner at Marker 88, and a gorgous, clean room with a deck that looked out onto a little sandy beach, garden and the bay. Our king sized bed was luxurious, and the mini fridge prefect for a bottle of wine. Continental breakfast was a bit of a disappointment but the afternoon at the pool was not!! All in all, a beautiful place to get away to.

The hotel was great. We got a really good rate and they also gave us a free room upgrade to a patio with a stunning view of the bay. While the grounds of the hotel feel very secluded and the rooms were well kept - including a fab shower. The staff were all very friendly and accomodated a very late check in! We can't wait to stay here again
