“Tiki Bar review only”
Reviewed 11 March 2014

This is not a review of the resort which it is not. It is a motel by a marina. The place looks really old. we stopped by our way to Key West. We went to the Tiki bar. We had chips and salsa, cheeseburger, stone crabs 1lb and beers for about 74 bucks.
The food was great. The atmosphere terrific. We really enjoyed the place, the view to the marina, the great staff and the live music. So as far as a Tiki Bar goes, it's great!

Disgusting shower that by the end of the shower I was up to my ankles in water, peeling paint, reversed knobs. Toilet that plugged every time (they had a plunger beside it - what does that tell you?). Plastic covered uncomfy beds, teeny tiny TV, no clock, generally grungy. Decent Tiki bar, with decent food...nothing fantastic. For $130 / night you should probably pay a little more and go somewhere else. My biggest beef was that we had no cell service as we are Canadians, and we had a medical issue that required people calling us in our room. The management would not answer the main switchboard phone after five o'clock in the afternoon! Really annoying.

Room Tip: Don't stay at all, but FOR SURE not on top level.

I think this is probably one of the worst hotels we have stayed in. The rooms were basic and in need of renovation. The fridge was rusty, the air con noisy and held into the window frame with tissue paper, the shower was small and all the paint was peeling off, the sheets were so worn they were transparent in places.

Had it not been for the fact that it was approaching 9.30pm and we had been searching for vacancies since 6pm we would definitely not have stayed, and at $150 it was not even cheap!

However, the food was good in the Tiki bar as was the live music.

Room Tip: Best rooms are in another hotel! But apparently the downstairs has been refurbished - and the rooms...

As a group of 28 adults we all shared similar gripes about Gilbert's...beds had heavy plastic sloppily hanging between the mattress and box spring, tiny stall showers had missing and broken tiles, furniture in many rooms was actually falling apart, nothing seemed clean. Breakfast took so long to be served after the orders were taken, many among us had to leave without eating. A great band played terrific music all afternoon. Enough beer and food was served for the proprietor to earn sufficient money to improve the hotel. We would not return.

Room Tip: Stay elsewhere.

You gotta love their ginormous Tiki ..
We sat on the water, and it was lovely. The music is always too loud, and it results in guests shouting to hear one another; tone it down!!!
I had their chicken Caesar salad which was mediocre. Portion was very small...like where was the Romaine??

Jenny, our server gets 5 stars. The restaurant/bar was grossly understaffed and it was a busy Friday. Jenny was great, and did a fine job.

Prices are high considering the small portions and tasteless food. We would rather pay more for good food and quiet dining. Ladies restroom was very messy.

Nice big Tiki bar. That's it. If you want to drink and listen to music it is great. The food was not good. The BBQ sandwich was so salty and spicy that my husband and I could not finish it without getting indigestion. They charged my friend an extra .57 cents for a little thing of BBQ sauce. He was not happy about that. Would not go back.
