We stayed for 3 nights. The rooms were large, clean and beatifully decorated. We had a bedroom with a separate lounge and kitchen area. Lovely sea views and well kept pools and bar area.
Just one problem, a staircase to our rooms and no one to help with the luggage. Ok for us but could be a problem for some.

Room Tip: Ask for a waterfront view

This hotel is surrounded by beautiful gardens which creates a romantic and private atmosphere. It has 4 pools and an on-site cafe. Our room was on the ground floor in front of the main pool and cafe. It was very spacious and clean with a patio and two chairs (to chill). There was a bit of noise from the pool area but it quietened at a decent hour. I particularly enjoyed the walk to sunset pier to watch the sunset (of course). We stayed on a room only basis but enjoyed a few drinks from the on-site cafe. Front desk and concierge services wwere very efficient and helpful. There were plenty food options with walking distance. However, you do need to take a taxi to get to Mallory Square/Duval street area but it only cost 16USD for 4 people one-way.
Tip: take a city tour (which picks up from close to the hotel) and take a taxi back to the hotel.

Room Tip: Perhaps ask for a room with a balcony overlooking sunset pier area.

I need to preface this entire review with the fact we had never been to Key West. We were visiting in hopes of staying somewhere tropical for our spring break- Caribbean like. That was our bad for being misinformed.

Key West is like any suburban area, but with beaches and an old pirate village on the one end of it. That said, Parrot Key was likely the best choice we could have made after seeing the other hotels. After I made reservations, I viewed PK in Google Earth and I was upset to see Walgreens and Home Depot right next door- I mean RIGHT next door. We made non-cancellable reservations, so we were in for good.

Parrot Key Resort has spent a fortune on vegetation and once you enter the property you completely forget about the strip mall across the street and the retail next store. It was very well maintained and it felt tropical. Even better- with the conveniences of home (for a suburbanite). I found myself walking over to Walgreens getting sunscreen and food within 2 hours of our arrival... Then later for alcohol. I never made it over to Home Depot though.

I think most of all, my wife and I were most impressed with how tropical it felt in such a not tropical area. We were so pleased with the quality of the room, our location in the resort and the pools. We had a ground floor beach front room that was right across from Sunset Pier (Room 47a). It was perfect for us. It was odd though seeing the house boats anchored in the bay that is your view- you get used to it.

All things considered, we were very lucky to have stayed there as anywhere else would have been a disappointment to us.

TIPs:
1) Restaurant/Bar closes at 8PM expecting you will travel into downtown to eat, drink and party late night.
2) Food & drink is expensive everywhere- including onsite. Walgreens is great for keeping your food & drink bills within reason.
3) Our room cleaning was very late each day; try to space out your towel use to make it to 4-5PM each day.
4) Dominoes Pizza was the only food we found that was presented as Gluten Free.

We took our son and his fiance on their first trip to Key West and stayed at Parrot Key. It was sort-of off season so we were able to get an amazing deal on a two story unit for several nights. The place was lovely with many amenities. It was more like a condo than like a hotel. We really enjoyed it. The television in the main room didn't play well but we didn't seek out service on this as we only watched it one evening. The bathroom was very nice and decor was also pleasant. Also, what proved to be an important point, is that it was within walking distance of a Walgreen's.

This was my third trip to Parrot Key Resort (first once since the change of ownership). The resort is beautiful, I love the pools, the staff was excellent and rooms are terrific, We had a canal view room which is still a great view. I think for rest and relaxation this is a great hotel to stay at. It is a bit of a hike to Old Town or Duval but with the grocery store and drug store right next store it is a real convince. The Porches are a real treat too, just a great place to relax.

Room Tip: A canal view is not the best, if they will do it get the gulf view.

The bad:

The location! It you want to go downtown, it is a $20 cab ride minimum (each way). It took forever to get a cab to pick us up and it was even more difficult to get a cab to pick us up.

The upstairs bedroom was either hot or cold, there was no happy medium and the room seemed damp.

The curtains did not block out the sun.

Both bathrooms are inside the bedrooms so you have to go into someone's bedroom to use the bathroom.

The towels were dirty, most had hair on them. So gross!

There was no sink in the bar area, there was a fridge, that was it. If you need to use a sink you had to go into a bathroom inside the bedroom.

Parking is minimal, if you come home late, plan to have no where to park.

The poolside food was AWFUL and overpriced.

The price for the rooms was very high, granted we went there for bike week, but we paid $350/night!

The good:

There were multiple pools and they were beautiful.

I liked the living room and the balcony.

I would never recommend this hotel. We had booked three nights and were only able to stay two nights and had to leave first thing in the morning because we could not continue to sleep in our dirty room. We reserved one of the ocean view rooms thinking it would be awesome for the kids to have the sand right outside the door, but it was the worst idea ever. After our first night the kids were out early on the sand playing and obviously when they were done, they brought in some sand with them but no big deal because it was 9am and they had not done housekeeping yet. We left all day and to our surprise when we got back at 530pm wanting to rest, our room was still completely undone. we called and housekeeping arrived so we walked outside to the porch in order to allow them to clean and in exactly 5 minutes we heard the lady leave. When we walked into our room the beds still had sand on them, they had not been made the lady had simply put a cover over them, sand still all over the floor, used cups all over the room, ect.. We stayed that night because it was already late and decided to leave early next morning. When we called the hotel wanting to speak to the manager they told us she would give us a call back and we never received the call. The restaurante area was also dirty, we sat in a lounge area that had the chairs and sofas so dirty my 5 year old kid didn't even want to sit on them. This hotel looks awesome in the pictures but in reality things a very different.
