“Nice Room no frills,”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 March 2011

the room was very nice and comfort table. The chamber maids didn't come to clean until 4:00 pm the first night 4 of them were there and did and average cleaning, No trash can, sticky floor. 2nd night they did not remove a pile of beach towels on the floor! Which we were told that we would be charged $25. for ea towel not returned. How would they know if they never picked them up.
The ice machine does not work like the door you have to LEAVE the card in the slot, we were not told this, even though went to report trouble with the ice machine. Defineately no "extras"
The most positive was the location forced us to check out area, long walks. $13 cab ride into Duval St.

Taveled with husband and another woman. Needed two rooms. This place had 2 room "bungalow" with sitting area for less than price of 2 separate rooms (here or elsewhere). Because of sitting area there were 3 tv's. Expected this to be first level entry with second bedroom upstairs. Turned out that these were originally townhouses with first floor kitchen, living and dining areas and bedrooms upstairs - giving each bedroom it's own balcony and having a full kitchen. They were intended to be SOLD. Since only about 20 were sold - they are renovating the others. Therefore, as we entered our unit there were two doors. First level is single unit rental. We had to immediately go up a flight of stairs (handicapped, elderly - TAKE NOTE- ask for unit with elevator). Our first level had sitting room (formerly bedroom) with balcony overlooking the gardens, and one bedroom with balcony overlooking the water way and gulf. Up another flight of stairs was the bedroom for our friend - it did not have a balcony. Again, because of the renovation, our unit had a toaster (no microwave) and a micro fridge that held hardly anything. Since this was not originally set to be a hotel/resort, one needs these things to make some food or else plan to spend a lot of money in the tiki bar which is expensive and has a very limited menu. There is a wonderful Deli across the street (shopping center) that makes the bagels for the whole island. Great breakfasts - good price. Fortunately, I had negotiated vouchers for the Tiki bar, so we were covered for lunch.
Housekeeping ??? They come in to change towels daily, but did not make the bed or clean rooms. If you want a fresh pool towel, you have to turn in the one you have to get it. Remember, this is more like a time share, where you do the work.
The staff was friendly and responsive, if you do ask for something. The units are comfortable and the grounds are beautiful. We had no trouble with parking or crowding at the pools. Liked that there are 4 separate ones - less noise.
Travel to Duval street - about 2 miles - if you are able to bike - best and least expensive way. We took cab first day for dinner and were floored to discover it was $12-$15 EACH way. Parking lots downtown are about $30/day. There are meters, but it takes 5 quarters/hour. We had a car,so we got a roll from the bank and used it from about 3-9 pm another day. It was cheaper than cab or lot. One day in Duval was enough for us - touristy shops and expensive restaurants and bars. Went back off Key West about 5 miles to local restaurant (Bubalu's) another night - no cab, free parking, good home-cooked food.
Bottom line - beautiful, comfortable place. We enjoyed our stay, but be aware of what I said in this review.

After my 4th time in Key West, I needed two rooms for my fiancee and I, along with her parents. After considering two cheaper hotel rooms, we decided to go with the two bedroom bungalow here. It turned out to be a great decision.

The property was very clean and well kept. Beautiful gardens and 4 smaller salt water pools. Our gardenview room was unique and well equipped. Not quite a 5 star accomodation, but two balconies, spacious rooms, 2 private baths, flat screen tv's and a fridge. Just about all you would need if you plan to be out and about.

We were all very satisfied with our stay. If you want to lounge by the pool, be sure to "claim your lounger" before 10-11am as the pools will get busier. Beware of the continental breakfast at the pool. It is not included in your rate, and we wound up with a large bill for a small breakfast.

The "resort" charges a 25/day resort fee.. If you stay 2 nights they will charge you 3 full days. I found this a bit of a cash grab, but the free high speed internet and parking helped offset my frustration.

Overall, a great place, friendly staff, good location, and a place I'd recommend. This seems to be a resort where the company cares about perception and long term success.

My mom and stayed at the Parrot Key for four nights. We decided to splurge and get the two bedroom waterfront condo and we did not regret it!

The 'cottage' is built in a townhouse style with a full kitchen, dining room and living room. A 'beach' is right off the back patio. It is basically a lane of sand that backs up to all of the waterfront properties. It is waterfront, but it means a channel and so you aren't 'on' the water but can get some great veiws if you have the right room.
The bedrooms were spacious and private (each with their own balcony). I would easily stay here again and bring my husband and some freinds of ours and feel completely at ease with the amount of space each room has to offer.

We didn't have any issues with housekeeping, but we normally leave a tip for the maid so I don't know if that helped us out all. No real issues with cleanliness but it did appear that the tile floors could use a good scrubbing.

The property is kept immaculately. The flowering trees and shrubs really help you forget that you just turned off of US Rt One to get here. The pools are very nice and relaxing. The bar can be a bit pricey but I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of food they served. I got the veggie pannini for lunch and it was very good.

The hike down to Duval Street can start to be a drag after a few days so we rented bikes and it helped a lot. We were able to go wherever we wanted with them, we just had to be careful how many drinks we had before riding home from Old Town on them :)

The staff was a little light for the size of the place. The rooms were great. We had 2 two bedroom bungalows and 1 room with two queen beds. The rooms still seemed new and very nice. We were disappointed that they closed several of the pools in the evening and only had the pool by the cafe open. We had several elderly people in our group that loved the porch and nice walkways. The cafe does not have a full kitchen but there are restaurants that are close to the resort. The sitting area in the bungalow did not have drapes to darken the room.

I was told that I would be pleasantly suprised by my stay. That is an understatement. My only regret is that I can not establish permanent residency there. First class accomodations, exceptional decor and grounds, and staff that you would bring home to meet Mom. Can't wait to go back.

We booked Parrot with the understanding that it was not a full service resort with a beach. Just don't get that on Key West really - we are not fussy. We just wanted a nice hotel with a location a little removed from the night life of Duval Street. We booked a three bedroom condo for myself hubby and our 13 yr old and a friend. It looked nice based on the pictures and friendly when we called. The condo was pretty but housekeeping has been terrible. Had to clean our bathtub and dishes ourselves. Breakfast crumbs still on counters when we get back. Sand everywhere. We remove pots from shelves and find them filthy and the cleaning supplies are lightweight at best - despite the granite counters, you have plastic cups wrapped in plastic for drinking. We have had a bachlorette party in the adjoining condo that has gone on for 4 days - wall are thin and we hear everything. No help from staff. Pools are very small and little more than a place to wet down - very warm with lots people. There is limited food service, a small cafe that closes so you have to leave the hotel. There is a Home Depot and Walgreens next door - Dominos across the street. Helpful as parking at night involves going to an overflow parking lot on their properties. Considered changing hotels, looked at a lot and there seems to be a lot better accommodation with more dining options for the same price around.
