“A really big disappointment”
Reviewed 6 June 2014

We made the long slow painstaking drive to this historical site
Let me say first if you just have to go here then do not go between the hours of 6 to 8 AM or 3to 5 or so PM. If returning either get out before 3 PM or stay till after 6
Traffic backs up for miles and then people go to getting crazy
It is a 124 miles of driving 55 or less and half of it is at 40 and 45 mph
They are doing a lot of road construction and are starting to close the lanes into one way at different times which will be making it even worse
Go with my blessings but you have been warned
We get there pay our 7 bucks to get in
No discounts period even if disabled, that is fine but most do give something off
We drive down to swim and then we find out there are no working bathrooms or showers
They had several Porta pots to use, but when they are so bad a man will not use them you know a lady isn't unless it is dire emergency Some had no toilet paper
We took a quick look at the Fort but could tell it was in sad shape as well
We go back out never even getting in the water
I stop at the guard house/collection point and ask them if there was any water to shower with
I was told nope none at all. I ask well why do you not have a sign up so people know before they pay
He leans out the door and points at a small sign that says no bathrooms but nothing about showers being out
I can see it being ok if you have a room nearby ,but to get in that water and have to make that slow drive 124 miles back to a room would be a chore
My understanding is the showers and bathrooms have been out some time
You would think they could stick a water hose in the air for temporary shower if nothing else
A wasted day for sure
Unless you are a glutton for punishment do not make that 124 mile drive much less go the Fort area. Look at it on a map and say been there

“Just take a snorkel excursion”
Reviewed 4 June 2014

This is a cool State Park...$2.50 to get in...An umbrella and 2 chairs for the day will cost you $30 (kinda expensive) but you get $5 back deposit when you leave...They do set them up for you...Rocks are aweful...Must wear your water shoes here all the way down into the water..Snorkeling was pretty milky and not clear..and we were sort of bummed..You can bring your cooler with sandwich stuff...No alcohol as it is a State Park, but they do serve it...you just have to stay on the porch to consume it...Beautiful view...but hey the Water is so pretty everywhere...just not underwater...We thought we could get our "snorkel fix" taken care of here...No such luck...Ended up taking an excursion...Nice park..Cheapest day and got great sun!

“Biggest Beach, rocky but nice”
Reviewed 3 June 2014

Didnt want to hang at Smathers, too congested and too far away from hotel. Zach Taylor Park & Beach was a quick bike ride from our hotel. Min fee to enter. Rocky beach and blue waters. There is a concession stand that sells soda, beer, frozen drinks & food. You can rent umbrellas, chairs & snorkle equipment too. Picnic tables, grills, walking trails and a fort are there to be explored. There are clean restrooms and showers as well to "knock-off" all the sand & salt water at the end of the day. Key West is not known for its "beaches", most have been man-made & shipped-in but if you want to hang out on one, this would be my recommendation. Its also a great place to watch the sunset too. Better than Mallory Square.

“Great park and beach”
Reviewed 3 June 2014

A lovely park in Key West. The beach is beautiful, but a bit rocky, pick your spot carefully. You can bring your dog if you like. The snack bar is an excellent spot to get a bite, they even carry beer and wine.

“Average Beach”
Reviewed 3 June 2014

We were there for a wedding and the beach area that we saw was not very conducive to swimming. But them again, there are not many beaches in the area that are.
