The Perry is an excellent hotel away from the noise & crowds of downtown Key West but a quick shuttle ride away if you want to go there. The restaurant and bar is very good and the waitstaff friendly and helpful. Because they have 2 bars there are 2 Happy Hours, 4-6 and 6-8, that is a 4 hour Happy Hour. No need to bring any liquor with you.
Servings of some restaurant items are huge so ask before you order but the food is uniformly very good. The staff is extremely responsive and helpful including the front desk (Kalley & Kimberly) so do not hesitate to ask for help or advice. The marina setting is very convenient for charter rentals of all types (snorkel, fishing, scuba, sunset cruise (we went on General George S. Patton’s personal yacht the When and If) and if you want the beach the shuttle will deliver you and picks up hourly.
There are frequent fly overs from Navy jets at Boca Chica field which are quite cool to watch and hear.
There are also a couple cool restaurants a 2 minute Uber ride away, Roostica and the Hogfish that are worth visiting for great, moderately priced food and local atmosphere.
I highly recommed The Perry.

- HOTEL LOCATION AND SURROUNDING AREAS.
At first glance the hotel is quite nice and meritorious of its advertised design award nomination. Upon check-in the staff is friendly and helpful. The grounds, restaurant, bar and pool area abutting a small marina are attractive and the rooms tastefully decorated, the bed clean and very comfortable. It must be said that the hotel is on Stock Island and an easy 20 minutes drive from the hustle and bustle of Key West. The hotel also provides convenient free hourly shuttles downtown. However around the hotel itself plainly put, there is nothing. The area is derelict, lined with a succession of garages industrial sites and what feels like a fairly tough neighbourhood. If you enjoy nice walks around your hotel in the evenings your only option are the hotel grounds.

-OVERALL EXPERIENCE
The first immediate flaw was the bathroom door. It is a fashionable sliding barn door.
While beautiful in design it does not close hermetically and with the toilet adjacent to the door offers no form of privacy.

Most of the rooms have spacious balconies complete with tables and chairs and nice views of the small harbour but we were surprised to find that the hotel does not offer room service. Maybe this is due to the newness of the establishment (6 months of operations) but with a price point of 200 plus dollars a night this should already be in place.

We had drinks at the outdoor bar before dinner. There were three servers present and barely ten patrons. No one welcomed us or bothered to come over to our table. The staff seemed rapped up with computer glitches on their register. When I walked over and stood in front of them a good two minutes went by and I had to interrupt them. The reception given to me by the bar staff made me feel as though I had barged in and was interrupting them. When I asked about an appetizer of market price oysters the server did not know the amount and was clearly annoyed to have to go and check. Oh, and the price by any standard was actually prohibitive 30$ for a half dozen.

We opted for dinner on the terrace. The area is vast and welcoming with nice outdoor fire pits. The staff is very friendly but service is slow with kinks (10 minutes and three servers for bread, the restaurant was barely a third full. They also charged us for the bread!) The menu seemed tantalizing and the descriptions exciting. While the fish and seafood were fresh and delicious the portions were on the small side even by fine dining standards. The sauces veggies and sides were disappointing, the products used were basic, industrial and subpar. With appetizers in the 15$ range and main courses set around 36$ and up we couldn't help but feel shortchanged.

After our disappointing meal sleep was going to be of equal measure as we faced one of the MAJOR design flaws of the hotel. We were jarred awake at 1AM by our next door neighbour having an argument on the phone. Of course the neighbour is beyond the hotel's control but the issue was more with the communicating door in the Standard Room. In these rooms there is no soundproofing of the door whatsoever!! We now had what felt like a roommate rather than a neighbour. Luckily the hotel was not full. The vey kind night clerk was apologetic, sympathetic and above all else efficient, swiftly finding us a new room and upgrade without any questions. She did offer very honestly that this was not an isolated incident but rather a known major issue. Thanking the clerk for all her help I gave my telephone number and requested to be contacted by the management the next day.

The next MAJOR flaw came at 7h30AM the following morning. Planes taking off!!!
The airport is ten minutes away, very convenient on one hand but very noisy on the other, a provision the hotel has clearly not planned for. Those of you who know the area will agree that planes are omnipresent all over Key West but look at a map and you will see that the hotel sits mere miles away from the major runway. More attention should have gone into the choice of glass on the building. Needless to say the night was short.

The next morning the day staff's attitude was a complete 180 from the helpful night clerk. When they inquired as to how we were and we re-iterated the night's adventure, the attitude could only be described as bored and unapologetic with an equal admission of the design flaw. No Manager was proposed on the spot and so I requested again a courtesy phone call that never came.

Searching for things to do we were told the concierge was out sick. As replacement for the ill staff member we were handed a paper with a list of activities in the region but with no price range or tour operator contact info. Simply a list describing attractions. Back at the front desk for better knowledge we tried to get precise info on price range and organisations around the area but the clerk could only offer to call for us.
It struck us as odd again that for this kind of hotel there was no follow through in the training of staff to answer demands. In the end we did our own leg work which is fine but concierge service should not boil down to one individual or single department.

Finally as a footnote to the overall experience we were roused on the second night by rowdy guests in the hallway at 3AM. You can attribute this to bad luck of course but a luxury hotel should offer better policing of its common areas. More to the point like many new constructions this calls into question the quality of the building materials used and further hinders the quality vs price ratio of such an establishment.

- EXTRA FEES, CHAOTIC CHECK OUT AND CONCLUSION
Most of you travellers to resort areas in the USA are aware and used to extra fees, Parking, resort fees etc. For those newbies out there read the fine print anywhere you book and if you make an internet booking I suggest you call the hotel PRIOR to find out what exact amenities are included in the room price. In our case we had no issues with this but two strange practices at the Perry need mention.

The website mentions free parking when it should really say free SELF-PARKING. In actuality we were told at the front desk that if we park our car, parking is free. If we request Valet Service then the price is 45$ a day...The irony? It is the same lot accessible to all and 30 feet from the front door!

The second odd practice, multiple credit card holds without mention. Now the Perry's declared policy is one night taken upon booking prior to check-in which is normal. You would think that this acts as hold but to our surprise upon arrival 300$ was frozen for the second night WITHOUT mention, which by the way was above room price. Secondly there was 120$ hold put on our card on top of the 167$ we spent at the restaurant. At check-out when we debated that taking a hold on every single fee billed seemed overzealous the clerk stated this as common and that her prior job was at Marriott and they did the same. We dropped this because of other issues and did not mention to her that we had just come from a Marriott where none of this had occurred.

Our check-out was not smooth and took 45 minutes. When we arrived downstairs the desk was flooded with irate guests and we were informed that their network and one work station were down and that a bill could not be produced. We tried to be helpful offering old school suggestions like plugging in a computer directly into a printer, by-passing the network but our comments were met with blank stares and mutterings that IT was on the way but they couldn't tell us when this would be. Our clerk was resourceful and in the end used her personal account to send us our bill by e-mail, she even allowed me to crossover to her side in order to review our charges on her screen. What boggled us though was that during this time there was no Manager in sight trying to mitigate the situation and help the staff. The situation was so dire and disorganized that the check-out next to us was worse than our own unraveling into an unfortunate screaming match. The guests were frustrated certainly but the male clerk's attitude was out of line and only pointed to the lack of leadership and training offered by management.

In the end the Perry COULD and SHOULD be five stars but adjustments need to be made to training, leadership and overall quality.

Room Tip: Do not take the standard rooms with communicating doors unless you are with family or friends.

Beautiful hotel with exceptional customer service. The rooms are very comfortable and their bath products are phenomenal! I can't wait for them to be ready for purchase. Eunice ~ the front desk clerk and all of the staff went above and beyond to make our stay one to remember. Whenever I am in KW, I will definitely choose The Perry for my hotel accommodations.

Despite we had some accommodation problems due to Booking.com incorrect description of the room, the staff at front desk always tried to look for an answer and seek solutions.
The hotel is very cozy, with beautiful decoration and seems brand new
Is at the Marina’s, about 2,5 miles of city center.
I only wish they would serve a better breakfast.
