My wife and I recently stayed at the Marquesa while attending a wedding in Key West, mainly due to the great TripAdvisor reviews. We were very pleased with our stay overall.

From what I understand, the rooms can be quite different. We were given room 14, which is on the top floor and is a pretty large room. Even though the house seems older, it is still very modern and has modern amenities, including free wireless internet (and a business center with even faster wired internet and printing capabilities).

My wife enjoyed lounging by one of the two pools. One pool is heated and the other is not. They are not very large but since the hotel is small, it was never an issue. When we checked in, our room was not ready yet, but it only took 10 minutes or so and we were good to go.

There are a lot of great things that people have already mentioned in other reviews, so I'll just briefly bring them up: great service, genuinely nice people, great location (real close to all the action but far enough away to be quiet and relaxing), and free wireless internet. The only things I'd criticize are: no food included at all (there is a grocery store one block away though), no hot tub, no fitness center (you can run outside though!), and an overall expensive rate. I was also hoping for free bike rentals, like some of the other local properties offered. The Marquesa did not have bikes but did offer to help you rent one from a local company. If you check other similar properties located close by, they are not CRAZY expensive, but you do pay a premium for the Marquesa. Is the Marquesa worth the premium over other local places. Probably. But the crowd is older so if you are a party animal this place is probably not for you.

Room Tip: Our room 14 faced Fleming and was mostly quiet, but on Monday morning the garbage men came early and...

It was a surprise, how service can be managed in a decent and friendly way, in our room we felt just like home. They took notice of us.
The hotel is situated in the middle of Key West, only a few steps to old harbour, Duval street, Mallory square and all the other attractions.
Of course we will return!

We had tried to book a room at the Marquesa first and they did not have any rooms available however, on a hunch I called the hotel while we were in Key West. Viola, a junior suite was available! We checked out of Pier House (eww) and into the charming Marquesa. So much better. I am particular about everything and I was very pleased with the accommodations.

This is our sixth time staying here. A beautiful setting with very well furnished individual suites, most with their own terraces, overlooking two swimming pools. The service is effortlessly good but without being showy. And very well located.

While this property is very quaint and charming, our room was so small in the main house it was claustrophobic. Our room also faced Fleming Street and was quite noisy. It was disappointing for the price of the room. My advice is to spring for one of the rooms out back by the pool area. We rarely saw the front desk staff and when we did, it felt like we didn't "belong" there. The experience was a disappointment.

We used the on-line reviews to select the Marquesa. The property is nice, the room was terrible. It was very small. I estimated 12 by 15 feet with a queen size bed taking up most of the space making it hard to move about the room. The room included a dresser with a TV on top and two uncomfortable wicker chairs. The closet was inadequately small. The bath was 5 by 8 feet including a tub/shower. The biggest disappointment was street noise and the truck traffic noise. It was difficult to sleep and the veranda was impossible to use for relaxation.
We stayed in ROOM # 10. It was obviously not one of the rooms pictured on the web site. I have stayed at many fine properties over the years and this was not one of them. Key West has a lot better properties for the money.

Room Tip: See the room before you book it.

Really a nice, quiet place to stay in Key West. You can walk everywhere and it is quiet and relaxinh at this hotel. The landscaping is beautiful and the rooms lovely. Not much of a lobby, but we hung out by the pool alot. The afternoon wine and cheese is nice.

Room Tip: Next time I would spring for a room on the ground level with a terrace.
