“Exceptional Staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 April 2011

We were in Key West for a Mother/Daughter weekend and had a lovely time. Location of this hotel is perfect for a long weekend and is in the middle of all the "action". Would probably pick a B&B if traveling as a couple or one of the beach front hotels if traveling with kids.

Hotel staff was knowledgable, friendly, and made you feel very welcomed. If you like to hang out by the pool and be waited on hand and foot by attentive staff; then this is the place for you! The pool bar staff made you feel like family and was a higlight of our stay. Everyday they hand out frozen hand towels to help you beat the heat - they were fantastic.

We had a suite with a king bed and pull out couch. The suite was very spacious with plenty of closet space.

Key West Restaurants: "Sarabeth's" is a must! This was a restaurant located on a quite street in an old house and the service was excellent. Must order the homemade tomato soup. "Santiago's Bodega" is a tappas restaurant that was delicious and we would highly recommend. Try the white wine sangria and the flaming cheese dish. "Blue Heaven" is a restaurant we stopped by.....the kitchen was closed so we didn't get to eat there, but the atmosphere was amazing. Worth stopping by at least for a drink. "BO's Fish Wagon" - a great place for lunch - known for their group sandwiches and I thought had the coldest beer in town. Atmosphere is one in a million. "Jack Flats" - this is a local hangout (sports bar). Fine to drink and watch NCAA basketball tournament, but not a place to have a nice meal.

Overall, would definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family.

Decided on Key West for a 4 night get-a-way after a brutal Midwest winter and we were not disappointed at the Ocean Key resort. Great location and the hotel itself is fun, clean, and mostly great service. Our check in experience was our only complaint even tho was really our fault as we arrived early. We didnt expect to have to wait 31/2hrs to get to our room, tho. We liked the room, nice enough view and very spacious. The combo jetted tub/shower was a bit dicey for us older folks as you had to climb over the tub sides to get to the shower. Once in, the shower was heavenly. We loved the balcony, facing west made the morning comfortable watching Mallory sqaure, ocean, and passing boats.
The pool was nice, although small as others have noted. Good drinks and service. Didnt like that people were allowed to start saving chairs early am when they were not even there until much later.
Cruise ships came and went, one day had one right by Ocean Keys pool. A couple days there were none. We also had room 420 with the notorious tree that blocks the sunset view. It was not really a problem as we had many other opportunities to see the great sunsets ( Mallory square, cruise, Lattitudes)
Enjoyed breakfast at Hot Tin Roof-very nice staff there. Front desk staff helpful is recommending places and helping with renting electric car.
We really enjoyed a sunset sail on the Adriondeck III--only 12 of us and good winds-would really recommend this.
We would return to the Ocean Key perhaps when the prices were lower. In future visits we would consider other places for a different perspective not for anything wrong with Ocean Key. The location is certainly a big plus.

P.S Loved the roosters in the morning!

Great location, next to Mallory Square and the bars on Duval street. Great view of the sunset. The room itself was decent size, but given the price, I wasn't too impressed with the room itself.

After the long drive from Miami, the Ocean Key was a welcome sight. Our room was a spacious ocean view suite. The wall of french doors leading onto a double balcony gave a beautiful view of the bright blue water and magnificent sail boats. We could open the doors and enjoy the music coming up from the pier.
The hotel is right in the thick of things on Duval which was great. I had considered Southernmost, but was glad we stayed here because there was more happening right outside the hotel. The hotel itself was peaceful, with a lot to do just outside your door.
We went on a fun jetski tour that left from the hotel marina. We left for snorkeling a couple of blocks away.

Room Tip: Call the hotel to discuss your room choice.

The location allows walking to many/most things KW has to offer. The staff was always in a good mood and eager to provide assistance. The restaurant on property, Hot Tin Roof, is great if you feel like staying close. The ocean views are super great. The general cleanliness was fine (but not great). The size of our room and bathroom was super great, very ample space. If I were seeking to critique I would say we will be very careful of cruise ship schedules when booking again. If you choose and pay for an ocean view/front room, that amenity will be immediately wiped out by ships docking right in front of the hotel. While it did not happen to us personally (thank goodness), it can happen and that totally changes the $$$ value of the room fee. Also, I think a courtesy car/vehicle for rides is in line given the pricing of the hotel. Key West sunsets are famous and the Ocean Key Resort is perfectly situated to capture them; from our room, Hot Tin Roof, the pool, the pier, etc the sunset views rocked at Ocean Key. Finally, the pool and the pool staff were great! Nic and April were the best, always providing fresh towels, fresh drinks, menu options. The pool area is very well managed!
Bottom line: we recommend Ocean Key and plan on staying here again in the future!

The best location in town. So much to do with children. Lots of good restaurants nearby. Lovely pool with spectacular views. Shame breakfast so slow, but that is the only complaint. Great meals at Mangia Mangia and Bistro 245 nearby. Spectacular sunset views.

Excellent location at 0 Duval St. Clean, crisp rooms, ocean breeze, very good coffee in the morning. Walk to the sunset celebration, stroll the pier and watch the shows, they are amazing. We will be back.
