We stayed at the Ocean Key Resort for 3 nights and had a great stay. We paid just under 400$ (excluding tax) per night for 2 people for a Deluxe Oceanfront Guestroom. Not cheap, but the Christmas period is very expensive in Key West, and the views from our balcony was so awesome it was just worth every cent. The room was very spacious, with a really comfortable king size bed and well appointed facilities.

Overall the hotel is really nice; it has a great laid-back atmosphere, incredible views (especially at sunset), top location (right next to where all the action is but still noise-free at night), and although it lacks the little touches and seemless luxury services to be a true 5-star, it is still a great place to stay. Out of the hotel facilities:
- the pool/whirlpool area is lovely, warm water, great chairs, cocktail/food bar. Minor negative points are the few people who "reserve" their chairs early in the morning (which is rude and annoying, and the staff isn't doing much about it), and the fact that in the afternoon it tends to get taken over by kids.
- the main restaurant is nice, a little pricey, and although our waiter was a little slow, he did throw in the wine for free even though we hadn't complained.
- the "sunset pier" (casual tikki-ish bar belonging to the hotel) right next door is great, with a nice laid-back atmosphere and a live band in the evening.
- room service is good, and a must for having breakfast on the balcony (same price as having it in the restaurant).
- the spa seems nice but the treatments are really expensive so we skipped this.

The resort is also by the dock where all the large cruise ships stop by (there are new ones everyday, arriving early in the morning and leaving at night). What this means is that there are days where the water views from the pool of the west-facing rooms are completely blocked by the massive boats, so it is worth asking for a north-west facing room (which we had) which still leaves great views at all times.

Valet parking is available from the hotel at 20$ a day, which is cheaper than the other car parks in Key West.

Sadly, the first impression of this incredibly expensive hotel continued,throughout our stay which is that the hotel is mostly staffed by young college students who have no real idea how to treat their guests and that it plays on the fact that it's in a fantastic location for Key West.. We arrived late in the evening, 10.00pm, after being delayed by bad weather on our flight. We were tired and hungry. The young man at reception barely looked up from his computer and made no real effort to welcome us. He told us to wait with the car while a porter came down, and left us standing in the street outside for several minutes. The porter came and took us to the room. We had booked an expensive suite for 2 nights., (this was our Christmas treat) and it all felt a little too worn for the high price we were paying. The kitchen was tatty, the lights didn't work, the microwave, fridge and cupboards were all definitely old and knocked around. It was grubby and made us feel like we didn't want to use it. We were really hungry so went down to reception again to see if we could get some food. The guy told us we were too late for the restaurant, there was no room service and was really unhelpful with any positive suggestions. We ended up going next door to a CVS and buying soup and crackers, which we heated up in the dirty kitchen. There were not enough spoons for 5 of us.
The following morning, walking to breakfast we passed several staff members none of whom said good morning or even smiled. The breakfast was incredibly expensive, and not very flexible. The waiter was not great and forgot things we had ordered.
The pool area is small and people had saved their sun loungers without using them, so it was hard to find one out of the breeze.
This was not value for money. and not even luxurious indulgence. Ridiculously over priced and poorly run. Even when we checked out the porter said he would pack the car up while we went out for a last walk up the main street. When we came back we discovered he hadn't locked the car up, and it had all our passports, computers and luggage inside. The car was accessible to the street and anyone could have walked in. Don't waste your money on this hotel.

We just got back from our X-Mas vacation at the Ocean Key Resort & Spa. We usually go home to NY for the Holidays but this year my wife and I decided to have some fun instead. If you are looking for a nice hotel with above average service and great rooms in a party town full of drunks and cruise ship tourists this place will suit you fine. We booked through perfect escapes and got a free room upgrade and three free breakfasts at the hotel restaurant.
The room itself was pretty. It was nicely decorated and appointed with a mix of traditional Key West styling and modern amenities. It had a great View; two flat screen TV’s and a great bathroom with a jetted tub and marble everywhere. We had a balcony that looked out over the Gulf and Mallory square where the sunset fair goes on every night.
The pool area of the hotel was also well appointed and decorated. There is a nice view of the gulf from the pool deck and the minimalist key lime accented furniture and towels add to that luxury hotel feel. The poolside bar whips up made to order tropical drinks and food from the hotel restaurant can be ordered as well.
The best thing about this place is the location. It is at 0 Duvall St. You can walk to most anything in the town from there. Sloppy Joes is 2 blocks away. Hogs breath is maybe 50 yards from the hotel. The Mariners museum and ship wreck historium are right outside your door. Greene St. is also a stone’s throw away and you can walk to the wharf.
I thoroughly enjoyed my Christmas holiday in Key West and would recommend staying at Ocean Key for people that are looking for a luxury style resort without breaking the bank.
