My daughter and I toured the Hemingway house with her two 12/13 year old daughters. We had explained some of the history with the girls, so they had some previous knowledge about Hemingway and his time in Key West. The girls are both cat lovers, so they were in heaven when they realized the cats are held in such high regard. Our tour guide was clearly enamored with the house, history, and cats, and was able to share his enthusiasm, making the tour much more interesting. Now that we are home, the girls are still talking about our visit to the Hemingway house and sharing facts they learned as they talk about their trip. We would go again!

Thank you very much for your excellent 5-star review!
The builder of this house, Asa Tift had a brother, Nelson Tift, who was the founder of Tifton, Georgia. We are happy to have that connection with your lovely state.

We visited the museum and it was astounding. The tour guy was so informative and you could tell he loves his job. He was very passionate about his conveyance if information and had worked there for years. I would recommend this tour even if you are not a literary fan or history buff. You can choose to wonder the grounds yourself but I would suggest going on the tour first. Also if you are a fan of cats you’ll love the tour because, there is something like 57 cats living there. Admission price is cash only but the gift shop takes cards.

The Hemingway House is a wonderful story of a Man who loved life to the full. His story was told to us today by one of the most excellent guides I have ever come across - Alliah (I hope I spelt your name correctly). Thank you - You made our tour feel alive and we enjoyed it immensely.

The house is in great condition with so much memorabilia of Hemingway’s life including photos, furniture, his typewriter and his movie posters - we loved it all.

Although I haven’t read his books yet - I’ve seen all his movies - he collaborated on these with the Producers and Directors and especially with the Actors on their portrayal of his famous characters.

A wonderful place to visit if you’re in Key West and an Amazing story of one of America’s most important writers. Thank you from Two new Irish fans.

Thank you very much for your excellent 5-star review!
As a native of Ireland, you may know that the American poet Ezra Pound met Hemingway by chance at Sylvia Beach's bookshop Shakespeare and Company in 1922. They forged a strong friendship and Ezra Pound introduced Hemingway to the Irish writer James Joyce. Ernest and James would frequently patronize a few local pubs together. I guess you could say the Hemingway was inspired under an Irish influence.

Thank you for your review.
In regards to our cash only policy: After review of the annual cost of the bank's credit card fees we were charged, we decided we could use those funds to improve and maintain this 165 year old mansion better. It just didn't make good business sense for us to let those funds slip through our fingers when they could be used on what is important, preservation and protection of a national treasure.
