“Great location. Great Staff. Incredible time”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 July 2012

We stayed June 21 and 22. My husband and I are both teachers and we were on a three week tour of Florida with our kids. We camped the night before at Bahia Honda and the Silver Palms Inn was like a retreat. We were only going to stay in Key West for one night, but the Silver Palms Inn was too great a location so that we extended our stay a day. The staff was more than accommodating to allow us to stay in the same room both nights. The breakfast is yummy (my kids still crave the chocolate croissants). The location was perfect... not a bad walk at all to pick up the Conch Train, walk "downtown" or head to the Southernmost buoy for the "required" photo op. As an added bonus, the The Basilica of Saint Mary Star of the Sea was right next door (we're Catholic and we went to the 7:30am daily mass... quite the bonus). Oh, parking is free too: we just let our van sit for the two days.
THANK YOU Silver Palms Inn. We are trying to figure out how we can come back (and soon)!

Room Tip: It seemed like most of the rooms had a balcony overlooking the pool. I'd recommend it.

We have been to KW before and stayed in rental condos which we loved... However our wallet didn't. We stayed at the Silver Palms for a week and spent approx. $1300 during July 4 week.

We were surprised by the cleanliness, the staff was scouring the common areas constantly. This was a particular point we paid attention to since many reviews of other resorts had many complaints on-line regarding unsanitary conditions. The rooms were spotless and really decorated nicely. The sheets were soft and the mattress was CLEAN! The pool area was always debris free and it was easy to find a sunny or shady place to enjoy. The staff and manager, Jennifer, we're accommodating and friendly. I had to do some business while on our trip and they sent my fax and mailed my checks without blinking an eye. I also placed on Amazon order which was delivered and about which we were promptly notified of its delivery. The staff were full of suggestions for eating and entertainment and we were pleased with their recommendations.

The breakfast included was delicious and plentiful, no hurrying to get there in time to get some nourishment necessary. It was comprised of croissants (the almond ones were delectable) bagels, fruit, cereal, Danishes, juices coffee and teas but good quality. You could take away what you needed without any problem (some places restrict your consumption to the breakfast area) which was nice since we liked eating and enjoying our coffee in our room.

We found the location to be a longer walk than the condos we stayed at before but it was nice to be removed for the bustle of Duval. There were stores and restaurants nearby for necessities and then we ventured off on our bikes to go down the the further spots. It was close to everything by bike and only a $6 cab to the furthest destination on Front St. Actually if you take the back roads, the walk was easy... Down to Simonton St. (a block away) and then across to the cross streets to all the Duval locations.

We really enjoyed our stay at Silver Palms and would definitely recommend this hotel for its FREE parking, hassle free stay, cleanliness, great staff (they always greeted us familiarly) and good location. We wished they had a hot tub, that's our only critique!

Thank you from Mark and Samantha Despathy, Palm City FL

I booked this particular hotel after considering all of the other resort-type / beachfront locations, but given the price, I chose the Silver Palms Inn. It was our first time in the Key West area, so we were not sure what to expect. It was very easy to find, and offered complimentary private parking. Check-in was easy, and the staff was very friendly (we forgot our hotel key several times, and each time, a staff voluntarily ran up a spare to us on the third floor).

The hotel appears to be recently remodeled for a modern and comfortable style - lots of bright colors. We had a two bed guest room that faced the pool area (we did not utilize, but it was smaller - I'd recommend visiting Fort Zachary's beach instead). It was very clean, well-styled, and comfortable. I'm extremely nit-picky / OCD about hotel rooms, and I found that this place met expectations as a clean / well-organized room.

The location of the hotel is set away from the busy street of Duval, so it was great to have peace and quiet when we returned to our hotel at night. However, the location was still walking distance to Duval street (5 - 10 mins.), Fort Zachary Taylor Historic Park (half hour), Key West Cemetary (5 mins.), and convenience store (CVS - 5 mins.). We didn't rent, but we did see a bike/scooter rental place nearby as well. For the 4 days we stayed here, we did not use our car to get around town - it's a fairly pedestrian friendly location.

We would definitely stay here again given the lower price compared to the resorts, great location, cleanliness/modern styling, and friendly staff.

Quick restaurant side-note - As we walked everywhere, we tried many restaurants that were within walking distance. I HIGHLY recommend these locations:

The Conch Shack (on Duval) - Small walk-up place that serves the BEST lobster rolls and conch fritters. Beer is cheap here compared to the ridiculous prices on the street!

7 Fish (closer to Silver Palms) - Small little place with quirky seafood dishes. I had a pasta that came with a mix of seafood and mango chutney. It was delicious.

Have fun!

Room Tip: Request a room that is off of the main street (Truman). I'd imagine those room to be nosier giv...
