My family made a return trip to Key West in April 2012, having stayed at a luxury resort on the island last year. We could not find a room in any of the hotels in Old Town so we gave the Doubletree a try this year. Overall, our experience was a positive one. The big issue with the Doubletree is that it is located near the airport, a few miles from the action and attractions on/around Duval Stree. There is a shuttle bus that runs every hour to a nearby beach and two stops on Duval. The shuttle is necessary if you are carless on the island. The hotel grounds are nice with a courtyard pool and sauna surrounded by palm trees and landscaping. There are no ocean views. Rooms with balconies overlook either the pool or the parking lots. Rooms are clean, but a bit tight on space. There is a bar on site which was empty during our stay and a decent restaurant. There is a breakfast buffet available which includes both hot and cold dishes. The concierge is terrific and the staff is very pleasant and helpful. Two minor issues: we only received cookies upon check-in. After that, you need to ask. The light bulb in our bathroom went out and remained out despite three calls to maintenance. All in all, I highly recommend this hotel IF you don't mind staying a distance from all of the action on the island.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony with pool view and the breakfast buffet.

We loved staying at the Doubletree Grand Key Resort for many reasons, one being the great food, 2) shuttle service and 3) friendly staff! We are a family of four who like to mix it up a bit while on vacation, spending some time by the pool and also taking the shuttle to the beach and downtown to Duvall Street. We also really liked looking in the beautiful aquarium in the reception area. We would definitely come back to stay again.

Room Tip: If we could have we would have preferred a poolside balcony room but they were fully booked.

The property is family oriented and far enough from the the Downtown area, but the shuttle service that runs to the Duval Street location is perfect.

Stayed at the Key West Doubletree for 3 nights in March, the staff was nice and helpful, the rooms clean and in good working order. We did experience a problem from noise from a HVAC fan motor but the staff quickly corrected the problem by moving us to another room. They have a great shuttle service to take you to the beach or the tourist area around Duval Street, it is not necessary to drive while you are in Key West which is good because the streets are congested at this time of the year. The pool area is really nice and relaxing. The restaurant has a nice breakfast buffet but it is a bit expensive, like most thing in Key West. All in all a great trip.

Room Tip: ask for a room overlooking the pool area, the view is nicer than the parking area

While Mike the pool guy is awesome and the walk in pool is nice the management lets the local kids and families all come and take over the pool and chairs. if you have small kids or want to relax stay away from this hotel.

Key West is a small town, and the Key West DoubleTree frequently hosts local meetings, local weddings and guests of locals, who are staying with us because their friends and families do not have enough room for them in their homes. We do not invite or encourage local kids or local families to take over the pool and chairs – and apologize if their presence at the pool impacted your stay in a negative way.

My wife, 8 year old daughter and I stayed for a few night in late-March while on Spring Break. This hotel is not in the center of the action around Duval Street--it's about 10 minute drive away in a quiet enclave by the airport. We heard some airplane noise but it's not a busy airport and it didn't bother us--and I am usually sensitive to that kind of thing. The hotel's free shuttle to Duval Street only runs hourly and a taxi is pretty expensive (I think $20) so you will need a car to really get around.

Our room was not large but was clean and neat, with a small fridge. The hotel is in a "U" shape surrounding the large pool area, which is the main feature of the hotel. The hotel is not near the water and has no ocean views to speak of, so the nicer rooms have balconies that overlook the pool.

We spent a couple of very nice days at the pool, which was heated to a perfect temperature. There was a pool guy making sure towels were stocked, the area was clean and chairs were well arranged. A waitress came down from the nearby outdoor bar to take food and drink orders. A one man calypso band played from noon to four, then a female singer took over during happy hour at the outdoor bar. The hotel was pretty full but there was no problem getting deck chairs--if there were people saving chairs with towels and walking off for hours, it wasn't bad enough for me to notice. Maybe the pool guy was keeping tabs on that kind of thing.

The breakfast buffet was a bargain at $12.95/person, and half price for kids. There was no omelet station but they did have just about everything else, including scrambled eggs, meats, make your own waffles and so on. We didn't eat dinner there but it didn't seem too busy--probably most people left the property to eat.

There is free wifi and a coin laundry. The hotel doesn't have a lobby store but there is a good sized convenience store across the street which is open until midnight most days. Checkout time is noon and we could only extend to 12:30 but they will store your luggage and give you access to a changing room which has a shower and is well stocked with towels, soap and such.

The hotel has plenty of parking and I believe it's $10/night although we weren't charged during our stay for some reason. We drove down to Duval St. a couple of times and despite warnings that we wouldn't be able to find parking we found plenty of meter parking right on Duval (though at $1.50/hour).

Service was very friendly and efficient and they went out of their way to be hospitable. The hotel is probably too far from the action for spring breakers but one night the college boys in the next room got loud at 4 am, waking us up. I called the front desk to send someone over and within two minutes it was quiet.

I wouldn't call this a luxury hotel but it is a very nice property, well maintained with good service. The pool area is the real draw here.
