“Nice hotel, not great sleeping b/c of thin walls, need better security with outside guests using facilities.”
Reviewed 31 May 2011

Although we would definitely still recommend this hotel to a friend, there were a few things that could have been better. The walls are quite thin, therefore, sleeping wasn't great as you could hear every little noise.

A few other areas of opportunity were the times at which they cleaned the facilities. I understand they need to stay on top of cleaning for obvious reasons but we were constantly having to get out of the way of housekeeping. From sweeping the lobby floors to vacuuming the halls, I've just never seen so much going on under the guests feet before when traveling.

I also felt there should always be complimentary tea/coffee for guests in the hotel lobby like most other hotels offer....having to pay for Starbucks coffee every morning in their gift shop was beyond crazy to me when you are already paying such high rates for a nice hotel. They had these small espresso/keurig type of pots in the rooms but the coffee out of them was awful so we had to pay for Starbucks coffee which we don't even like.

The last thing which was quite upsetting was the number of outsiders coming in to use the facilities when they weren't even staying at the hotel. They came by the carloads and when we were the ones paying the high prices to stay at this luxury resort, we somedays couldn't even get seats by the pool, drink service, towel service. There should be some sort of security to minimize this abuse and it would have been quite easy to take care of it as those people were loudly bragging about what they had done to everyone around them. This happened on multiple occasions throughout our 5 day stay.

Now, with all of those suggestions, the one thing I can't say enough positive things about was the pool side service...most especially, our pool side concierge, Max. He went out of his way to make us comfortable and meet our every need and ALWAYS with a huge smile! Even on his day off when he came in to pick up his paycheck, we found him moving pool chairs around for guests on a busy holiday weekend. Max was the best part of staying at this resort and I would pay him our highest compliments!

Overall, I would still recognize this hotel as a good place to stay but with some minor improvements, it could be a great place!

This resort is a little slice of paradise with a private beach and 2 pools. Never felt crowded. Room was spacious with a balcony overlooking the pool and ocean. Service at the beach and pool was superb. Graham and Max set up our chairs and umbrella every morning. The Sun Sun Bar staff, Robin and Lisa were wonderful with drink and food selections. Robin made sure our meals were prepared as asked. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The concierge was also very helpful with finding restaurants and even helped us find a car wash.

My husband and I stayed here for my friends wedding in May. The resort itself has a lot of modern charm and is very beautiful. The service is pretty good and the staff seemed intent on making things happen. One thing that is really nice is that the resort is away from all the mayhem of downtown Key West, which gives it more of an exclusive/peaceful feel, but you are still close enough to bike to all of the restaurants/bars. They did a great job assisting/coordinating my friends wedding and it was just beautiful. I do think the rooms are priced a bit too high ($300/night) for what it's worth. Everything is so close in Key West, so I think there are better options out there for the money. Having said that, if money is not an issue, I would definitely recommend staying here. The espresso machines in the rooms are the best! Definitely try a key lime pina colada & pineapple mojito at the pool bar!

I stayed at Casa Marina for a 5 night vacation with my girlfriend. Overall we found it to be an excellent resort.

The Awesome:
-The grounds. It looks like something out of a movie. Just beautiful. Palm trees, sand, outdoor dining, really makes you feel like you're on vacation.
-The staff. Everyone was very friendly while getting you what you need ASAP, be it beach chairs, a cab, a drink or an excursion.
-The pools. They have two medium sized pools that never got crowded and were kept very warm, probably 85 degrees or more.
-On site dining and bar. They had good, sweet, tropical drinks. In particular, my girlfriend thought her Key Lime Pina Colada was the best Pina Colada she had. The dinner there was very good and the lunch was fantastic (yellowtail fish n' chips).

The Good:
-Location. Very close to Southernmost point and a couple of restaurants. It's a 30 minute walk to the bustling parts of Duval street and closer to 45 to get to the marina area where you'll catch most snorkel/scuba/sailing trips. That was not a problem for us but it might be a bit far for some people. Cabs are almost always waiting outside the hotel and it was $11, including tip, to get to the marina.
-The beach. It's not huge but it's private to the resort and felt pretty spacious. There is a strip of coral rock in between the sand and the ocean so don't expect to be in and out of the water very much. Really, if you are looking for a purely beach-centric vacation Key West is not the best place. It doesn't have the massive strip of sand you get in Miami beach or Virginia Beach and main part of town is on the opposite side of the island from the public beaches.

The so-so:
-Our room. We stayed in a Flagler Ocean Vista room. It was spacious and nicely appointed. It did have a wide ocean view but you couldn't see out the window from most of the room, there was no deck, and the window itself was painted shut. If you are dead set on an ocean view it is worth getting one of the rooms in the newer part of the hotel (NOT the Flagler building). A couple quirks included no bathroom fan or rack for a hand towel. The TV was small relative to the size of the room but it never got turned on so that wasn't a big deal.
-The hallways have dated, mustard yellow and brown carpet. It might look good at a southwestern themed hotel in Taos or Santa Fe but it was a noticeable downgrade from both the room and lobby appointments.

Overall, the Casa Marina was an excellent hotel with great service, a comfortable-enough room and excellent amenities. We will almost certainly stay here again for our next stay in Key West.

Room Tip: Skip the Flagler rooms if you want an ocean view

The resort was very beautiful and a lot of fun. The pool staff was fantastic. Both Will and Max were not only helpful and attentive but very personable as well. Will and Max always found us the best seats by the pool and always had stuff for us to play with in the pool.

Thanks Will and Max!

Just stay elsewhere in Key West, this place is not worth it. I pay attention to the simple things that should be easy to get right by hotel staff and this place misses the mark on the following: Irons that work and won't spit brown water on your clothes, professional pool staff, responsive housekeeping staff (we had to call 3 times for the first iron, and I'm still waiting for the replacement), cleaning lady comes after 2:30 pm to clean the room when we were gone since 10 am?!?, allowing hotel guests to leave chairs on the beach unattended for hours to save it.

It wasn't a pleasant experience at all and not worth the extra money. The main street in town is Duval where the "life" is...it's within a short bike ride from the hotel. I won't be staying here again, fortunately.

Room Tip: Ocean view rooms? save your money. water is merky

After a lot of searching, my new lovely bride and I chose the Casa Marina on the advice of a travel agent friend, and we are SO glad we did! The grounds, pools, and beach area were all immaculate, and all the staff truly tried to make our honeymoon something special. Of special note were Ellie at the pool bar (what a true sweetheart of a person she is!), the beach attendants Max and Jake (good college kids that were very attentive), Ann the Concierge (recommended a couple great places for dinner), and Patrick at the front desk (did his best to accomodate a special request). Too often these folks go unnoticed, but these 5 truly stood out!

What we really liked about the location was that it was somewhat secluded from the craziness and insanity of Duval Street, but a quick cab ride or pedi-cab got us to that craziness. We also enjoyed strolling Duval Street early in the morning, then making it back to the Casa Marina for beachtime in the afternoon. Also, I'd highly recommend renting bicycles early in the trip to ride some of the back streets to get a true feel of Key West.

All in all, a beautiful resort that we'd highly recommend!!
