My husband and I stayed at the Duval House for our honeymoon and absoutely hated it. The room was not clean. Toilet was filthy. Our room was tiny and you can hear everything that goes on outside your room. It did not feel private at all. The air conditioner smelled moldy and gave us a headache. The floors were not washed and our white socks got dirty walking across the room. Housekeeping isn't very quick about cleaning the rooms even w/the "clean now" sign on the door. For a B&B the breakfast was horrible. I don't know if I was expecting too much because they call themselves a B&B, but I thought the breakfast should have been better. The cold pastry and weak coffee was not appetizing. We only had the breakfast once since I saw ants by the pastry the first morning. The gardens were OK and the pool nice but the airplanes flying by were very loud. The flight patterns for the airport flew right above Duval House. We couldn't cancel because you need to pay in advance and pay a cancellation fee if you don't stay for your whole reservation. Parking is extra or you need to park in the street. Definitely overpriced. Our honeymoon was not as enjoyable because of our stay at the Duval House. We stayed at the Southernmost Hotel before our wedding which is excellent including free parking. I definitely recommend staying there. We wished we stayed there for our honeymoon as well instead of the Duval House. When we got home I wrote Duval House a letter regarding our complaints. They sent us a 20% off for our next visit, but we will not be staying there again. It would have been nice if we were reimbursed for some of our stay.

This was our first actual stay in Key West, although not our first visit to the city. The hotel is clean and comfortable, and close to all of the attractions which makes it nice if you have minimal transportation. Rooms are small although you typically spend little time in them. The room we stayed in had a noisy air conditioner, but seemed to work OK. Our visit went as planned so there were no complications, but the penalties for changing your reservation or losing a key ($95) are a little steep. We also were expected to pay up front for the entire stay when we arrived. The breakfast was typical with breads, rolls, bagels, cereal etc. Nothing to write home about. There is a courtyard that is great to get away from it when you need a break. Overall a good place to stay and we will probably stay there again.

Lovely looking property. Excellent location but if you go there don't stay in room 17. The shower is a joke, I couldn't move in it. The air conditioner was positioned level with sleeping position while in bed. I got earache and had to turn it off. Some sort of berries that sound like conkers fall off the trees overhanging your roof and keep you awake. The staff was business like. Breakfasts were acceptable. I felt a bit let down from the brochure description and what we paid. We expected more.We even got charged $10 a night for parking in their own back yard. Luckily we only stayed for two nights, there were four of us so we able to laugh it off like us Brits do!

My wife and I went to the Duval House for a long weekend to celebrate our 1st anniversary. This is a charming bed and breakfast. Great location. Close enough to walk to everything on Duval Street. Tasty breakfast and beautiful grounds. Make sure to get a room on the second floor for a lovely garden view. Highly recommended!!

Duval House is somwhat pricey, but the place is nice. Be sure to ask for a QUIET room - otherwise you might wind up behind the alternative dance club with the bass resounding in your room until 4am! Fortunately they changed our room the next day with no problems, just apologies. So stay away from rm. 29.
Breakfast is OK as long as you don't want anything hot or cooked - bagels, breads, croissants - oh and mimosas! Best part.
The rooms are CLEAN and comfortable. The gardens are beautiful and the pool looks nice, although it rained our whole visit and we never got to try it.
I don't like their policy however of chargingg $25 to change a reservation -even if you do it way in advance - and you have to pay for your whole stay up=front (so use a credit card in case you have any problems).
I would return, but I would be sure to ask for a quiet room,

Stayed there a while ago (2003) and it would be the first place on my list of places to stay in Key West should I go again. Beautiful rooms, nice gardens, perfectly located. Wonderful place!

The tropical setting of the grounds at the Duval House is beautiful & very relaxing! Our double bed room was clean and had plenty of room for two. The continental breakfast had a lot of choices. We had a room in the middle of the property with a private patio and the only noise we experienced were the people walking above us on one morning out of the four we were there. The Duval House is in close walking distance to the nightlife, but not so close that you are bothered by the noise. Our only disappointment was that the pool was small compared to the picture on the internet, but the beautiful garden setting made up for that. Although the prices were a little high, I would stay there again.
